Restoration of Breitling Chronomat

- I’m restoring a Breitling Chronomat reference number B13047 equipped with movement Valjoux 7750. This particular movement is the old Valjoux version with 17 jewels. The new movement has 25 jewels. Year of production is early 90s.
The watch is heavily used and has several deep scratches. It has not been serviced throughout the last decades. The movement is very dirty and dry like a desert. Neither oil nor any lubricant exist anymore.
As usual I will try my best to make the wristwatch nice again.

Amazing work. And awesome well-edited video. I need to start recording all my own watch restorations, for my own use. In that way, every screw falls perfectly into place, parts never ping away from the tweezers, and the watch runs perfectly the first time. 😁 Keep up the good work.

Breitling Chronomats are looking cheap of this vintage. Bomb proof chrono movement, plenty of flash, five link pilot’s bracelet and built to last! Great work 😊
At this time Breitling try to survive the so called quartz crisis and they develop a cheap watch which try to look more expansive. With this model they succeeded…. Now a days the design looks cheap but I meanwhile iconic.

I’m 61 years old and my hands shake and do you know of anything that you can take to stabilize your hands because there would be nothing more than I would like to just try to service a basic NH35 or even a pocket watch but the shaking with my hands has really become a problem for me when it comes to small tools.
I felt like I needed to say something since I just watched the end of the video and it is truly amazing how beautiful this Breitling has become because of your work. I am “flabbergasted“. I sent you that little gift because I can imagine that the tools that you use are extraordinarily expensive. I would love to hear your commentary and that’s the only criticism I’ll ever make. A running commentary is always so much fun to the viewer.

great job indeed: I suggest you to use the brass tweezers instead the steel ones so you could be safest about the assembling…
I have some brass tweezers but I don't like them at all. I'm using mostly titanium tweezers and for delicate parts carbon fiber.

You are on another level .., I have an old Rolex My grandfather left me and for some reason it was missing the rear cover, so I purchased a used one off someone . Beautiful restoration. How do you dress your screwdrivers and tweezers? Thanks
Screwdrivers: if they have only optical issues I use sandpaper or Arkansas stone… whatever needed to make them good. If they are broken I change the blade.
Tweezers: Sandpaper and for final finish the polishing machine with bufflex very fine wheel

You need a very good/exact motor. Else the tool became useless…

@nicolasschmit7237: this vice has no tension itself! It needs a motor to develop the tension to hold the item. The tension is generated by the rotation of the motor.

What would it cost to repair a Navitimer 2300 serial number 80970. In 1990 an over confident watchmaker attempted to free up a sticky menu select button and ended up breaking it. Its been collecting dust for over 30 years since now its impossible to set the time.
It breaks my heart since it and i have had travelled many miles together. I'm ex Airforce and it had always given me a certain reassurance.
I’m so sorry to hear that. The best way will be to bring this beautiful watch to an authorized Breitling dealer. They are able to organize all needed Parts to bring the watch back to life.
Such a beautiful watch don’t have to collect dust.

The only thing about watch restoration videos that annoys me is that nobody does a loom shot on a loom watch xD am i the only loom geek here xD
But nice Chronomat anyway, was the bracelet expensive to get ? because the bracelet for my Colt is a ted expensive at around 500+ eus

The bracelet I got was in very bad condition and it's on the short side. I payed 250 Euro for it.

This movement is very easy chronograph with minimum amount of part’s. There are more complicated ones outside 🫣

Hi! This watch can’t be from 1970, since Breitling started to produce the Chronomat in 1984 only.
Furthermore, the caseback suggests this watch is from early 90s

The watch is in terrible condition. I underestimated how much work this tiny parts will be. It cost me a lot of nerves to finish it. The good news... the result is amazing 🤩

Valjoux 7750 movement was lunched in the early 1970s. Equipped with 17 jewels and some plastic parts inside. Mid of the 1990s the movement has got changes. E.g. 25 jewels and no plastic parts.
I wonder if the price of restoring this chronomat isn't worth the price of a Tissot 😳😯🤔 just taking it apart is so scary that putting it back together puts me in a coma 😱
The price of this particular Breitling will be higher than a Tissot. The restoration was a funny project for free.
Not a particularly attractive watch in my view, but once again a magnificent restoration....

Your not wearing any finger gloves
While disassembling no need because all parts will be cleaned. While assembling I used a movement holder and hold it. I never touched the movement. Later on I wear some.

i had same one from 1998 to 2018, i lost riders 3 times mostly [30] and [45] and twice screws 😁😬, got tired and sold them for $800 + some Monnin case diver .
