  • In a CBS News exclusive interview, the family of a Boeing whistleblower who was found dead earlier this month is speaking out. John Barnett, a former Boeing employee, had been giving evidence in a whistleblower lawsuit against the company. A coroner says he died from what appeared to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound. It comes as Boeing's safety practices have come under new scrutiny due to a series of recent midair incidents. Mark Strassmann spoke with Barnett's mother and brother.

Retired generals go to work for them get them sweet deals and all comes down to money. Look at how long we stayed in Afghanistan in the end just handed it all over to the guys we were killing. @@u2mister17why do you believe that it was done by "union thugs"? I have no opinion either way since I don't know anything about the situation but I'm a bit surprised that people would think it would be done specifically by people from a union versus some bad person in general who was working for a very bad rich person who had something big to lose. I do know that there were a few infamously bad union bosses from a few decades ago but I haven't heard anything that would make people think that union bosses are bad now. I also know that there are some rich people who are now against unions for political reasons but I don't know why most people would even care about that now.

@@zebra00024 Honestly, I don't know if he was or not but the amount of things that lead to that conclusion is a lot. A whistleblower who allegedly suicided at the last day of that situation, saying to his family that if he dies somehow it would not be a suicide, a paper letter at the back seat which by the words of family members does not sound like the guy at all. I really suggest watching a few videos yourself, Penguinz0 made a cool video speculating about it and there are plenty on CZcams regarding this sorrowful situation, though still as I said, it's all speculations even if there's a ton of things pointing at that that this particular theory is true. Hope this helps.

The current Boeing is run by accountants and lawyers. That is the problem. This never would have happened if Alan Mulally had been made CEO. His mantra was "tell me the problem, don't hide it. Once you know the hierarchy, and how people get promoted, it tells you how you need to speak. That doesn’t mean you can’t suggest something, but it means you have to suggest things in a way that isn’t against the norms. It’s very hard to move your ideas forward in that culture.

“The coroner says he died from what appeared to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound.” Of course. Boeing believes in hiring nothing but the very best hit men to carry out their assassinations. Quality work every time. If only Boeing were as meticulous about building airplanes.

There's have to be a paper trail, and boeing might have some serious consequences.

No one should believe this courageous man killed himself.

A man of integrity who had been. HIRED by the company to oversee safety and quality, doing "his job" and doing it right. This is not going to go away until we find out what happened and we "don't" believe it was suicide until a LOT MORE information is unearthed. We are fed up with mysterious "suicides' of people who know too much about "crimes" of others.

They definitely killed him one way or the other. Either by literally putting him down or by mentally putting him down.
Just because he was calling out Boeing’s BS. Sad.
