  • So much emphasis has been placed on tracker accuracies, and the capabilities of the probes and scanners that pair with them. There is an often-overlooked component of tracker operation and measurement: Spherically Mounted Retroreflectors (SMRs).

A very informative and well pieced video. Laser tracker system can be considered as a two part metrology system. The laser tracker head acting as the emitter for the first part of the system and followed by the SMR acting as the reflector for the second part of the system.
It should be a good practice for both the metrology service providers and the customers to check on the calibration certificate validity for both the laser tracker and SMR prior to any measurement services conducted.
As the laser tracker is an electronic metrology instrument, one cannot be certain that the instrument is in good working condition at all times. One good practice for metrology service provider to adhere to is to perform a system self check using a known reference (Length gauge) prior to and after the metrology service. This would highly boost the level of confidence in both the customer and service technicians in regards to the quality of service provided.

Dear Sir, Indeed very valuable points you have mentioned here. We surely recommend equal importance to be given to the head and the SMR. API makes one of the finest SMRs in the world with a wide range to chose from. Do let us know any requirement you may have.
