Just a question about the measurements when camping at Yellowstone Campground. We have a small camper, 17 ft. With it hooked up to our truck we're at about 33 ft. Are we going to have any issue booking a spot for a 30-foot RV / camper?
Yellowstone is in my backyard. I like the way you shared the beauty and also asked for respect of the area. It is a wonderful place to visit, but like anywhere, people can ruin a good day. It is a wild area that we get to be a guest in, let’s enjoy it and take care of it.
Great tips on Yellowstone! One thing folks might want to check out is a wonderful RV park called Red Rock RV Park. It is 20 minutes from West Yellowstone near Henry’s Lake, Idaho. A beautiful, well-run park with full hook-ups. We have stayed there for a month 5 years in a row. We like to fish, and there is great fishing all over that area. We usually take several days to drive to Yellowstone and back, each time taking a different route. A favorite day-long drive is to go from there south through Idaho along the west side of the Tetons, loop down through Jackson Hole, and back through Yellowstone and back to our RV. Don’t underestimate distances. The park is massive. You can’t cover it all in one day unless you’re insane.

I'm 67 and have traveled a lot worldwide, lived in Alaska for 7 years, and recently retired, but I've never been to Yellowstone. In a few weeks, I'm heading there to work for five months. We just returned from a 2.5 month trip and spent over a week in Yellowstone. You give such valuable information for travelers and it assisted my husband and I when we planned our time in the park. One thing I do want to mention, Buffalo are not only in the park, they are all around the park area too. We had a huge Buffalo run at full speed down a hill and in front of our truck and rig on the road 191 north of West Yellowstone. That was insane, he was running so fast his legs were literally coming out from out of him. We were extremely fortunate that he did not run into us, he would have destroyed our truck. So becareful when driving around Yellowstone..there are no fences...thank you so much for your insight and suggestions Nancy and Michael
Aw, Yellowstone is my happy place! There is no inconvenience to ruin your visit!! I travel there in my mind a lot also once I get home! Great video you two!!
I'm in Montana, so Yellowstone is just a Sunday drive away for me. I love the Park in every season. The Lamar Valley is also great for bison, along with wolves, and I've seen moose there as well. While I like the Boiling River, I also like swimming in the Firehole River. It passes through most of the geyser basins, and gets warmed up a bit along the way. The access is along the Firehole scenic loop, but no RVs or large vehicles allowed, since it's a very narrow road with some tight areas.

This video is so informative and helpful! I'm driving my family on an RV road trip this summer and we're planning to spend a week at Yellowstone. I've been there many years ago as a teenager but I don't remember much, and obviously I was not driving an RV back then. I really appreciate this video; your timing couldn't have been better for me.

When camping in Yellowstone one of my favorite activities are the ranger talks in the amphitheater at the campground. Go every night, it is a different talk & subject every night. Also great source of knowing about bear & wolf activity in the park.
Great vid! I've been to Yellowstone many times and it never gets old! In fact, my son and daughter worked in the park summers at different times. My son loved it so much that he now lives and works in Gardiner.
We went last summer (Aug 2016) spent 7 nights in our Aliner Expedition. It was the best trip ever. We saw massive herd of bison in Lamar Valley. Black bear, Grizzly, Elk etc. Hands down the most wildlife I've seen in one place. I wish we could have stayed longer. I guess we'll just have to go back. Thanks for the great video.
I live in SE Idaho, so I have had the pleasure of going to Yellowstone, who knows how many times. I don't think you mentioned it, but I think the Lamar Valley is a great place to see huge Bison herds and wolves. I now only go there in spring and fall, heading up Tuesday for my spring visit. Fall is my favorite time to visit now, nothing like hearing the elk bugling, and seeing the huge Bulls claiming their "brides"
I know this is old but we are going this week and my daughter really wants to see a wolf. Keeping our fingers crossed. Planning on getting up early each morning hoping to see lots of wild life
So many people miss that. PEOPLE GO IN THE NE ENTRANCE, not the EAST!!! I live right between and there is no comparison but hardly anyone knows about the NE entrance. You will see Lamar Valley then. The Beartooth HW is prettier than anything you will see in Yellowstone!
We live in Idaho also we have camped at Madison several times we were at that camp site they were showing with a 25ft also yes it was a little harder but can be none.
My husband, 11 year old daughter and I spent 2 days in Jackson Hole, 4 days in Yellowstone, then drove over to the Black Hills of South Dakota, a couple of years ago. I would love to go back! We saw several bears, of course lots of bison and elk, and two moose near the Canyon area. Now I know how lucky we were to see the moose! We did the covered wagon dinner in the Roosevelt area and that was awesome. Best vacation ever!

Thank you! I went through Yellowstone with my family nearly 50 years ago, and think my parents made the mistake you mention of thinking they could drive through at the same rate as on an interstate. I've always wanted to go there again with my children, and now with my grandchildren. The information in your video is valuable to anyone wanting to plan a trip through there. All of your videos are practical, to the point, yet show the wonder, majesty, and awe of the area you are exploring.
Went there 3 years ago with my kids . Our first time. We are from California and stayed at fishing bridge campground. The dirt roads around our loop had big potholes. I just looked at it as a base camp and spent most of the day site seeing. The mosquitos come out and attack at night so we would just stay inside the trailer when the sun went down. Beautiful park with lots of wildlife. Can't wait to go back.
Have lived in Texas (which I love) my entire life. Went to Yellowstone in 1958 when I was 8. Beautiful scenery and loved the animals. Would like to get my family together for a trip, but that's next to impossible. Thanks for all the info.
As a kid in the 1950’s, driving through the park, the bears had been habituated to open garbage cans and basically hung out on the roads begging for “hand-outs” from the idiots who would open their windows, or even the car doors, to HAND PIECES OF BREAD, CANDY, OR CIGARETTES ( !!!? ) TO THE MOB OF BEARS! Those days have, thankfully, been ended! Love Mother Nature, and RESPECT HER WILDLIFE; they are still there because they are TOUGH. Love your videos, thank you very much. Major Krunch.
Sean and Kristy, we were in Yellowstone last Tuesday (May 17th)! still lots of snow. all of the overlooks at Grand Canyon on Yellowstone were still snowed in. We went to Old Faithful to see the afternoon eruption, now going off about every 90 minutes. Castle geyser, that is close to Old Faithful, erupted about 45 minutes prior to Old Faithful in the afternoon and i believe stole much of the pressure for the Old Faithful eruption. i couldn't believe the amount of visitors at this time of year. it was cold and windy, actually snowed on us waiting for Old Faithful. Old Faithful Inn was really busy but sill a great visit. Buffalo, elk, deer and a first for us, a very large wolf just across the river! it is a shame that we don't visit more often, we are only 100 miles from the park! thanks for the video. maybe one day we will run into each other in the park.
I took my thermal camera on my last visit to Yellowstone and made a few videos that I posted here. If you only see Yellowstone in the daytime you are missing spectacular views that thermal imagery will reveal. And the wildlife that you can see in total darkness is an extra treat.
Great advice. We've been there at least a half dozen times and Yellowstone never fails to amaze me. We've had snow on July 4th! Size does matter! The park is huge and the campsites are small. Watch the overhead too, because vents are vulnerable, just a random comment..... ;)
First time visiting your channel, and gosh, it brought back memories. We took our five kids to Yellowstone back in the 80s. Yes we're old, but so are they now. They still talk about that trip and tell their kids about it. I, personally, think that every American should visit Yellowstone. There is nothing like it anywhere else in the world.
Yellowstone is one of our favorite National parks. We have visited there about five times, generally in mid May with a week stop in Grand Teton first. Our first visit we camped in West Yellowstone. Other years we camped at Mamoth Hot Springs since it was closer to Lamar Valley where we could view the Wolfs and get into Cody to have a great steak dinner at the Proud cut restaurant and also tour the large gun museum.

We just travel around the US by car (I drive a Prius V), staying in motels. So when we did Yellowstone we stayed in West Yellowstone. Great Hotels, restaurants and services. It was summer, lots of traffic, so we did two tours of Yellowstone, one lower, one upper. That way we weren't personally stuck in traffic. and they know where the animals are. Then a day of going back to see bits we had enjoyed from the tours. Yes, Old Faithful Lodge. If I win the lotto, I'm staying there. It is gorgeous. Mammoth was also a gorgeous area. When we were there, the Lake Hotel food was good and the views awesome. But as you've noted, that varies year to year. BRING a Telephoto Lens. I got some great animal shots that way. They were much further than they looked in the pictures. ;) WARNING - the road going EAST to Cody WY, is steep and twisty. There are turnouts. Most RVers were polite and used the turnouts, so the more maneuverable cars could get past them. Thank you. Oh, National Park Foundation, and Yellowstone Foundation. Yellowstone gets you a discount at their stores in the park. Both support the parks. None of the money goes to the government. They are 501(c)3 charities. Help the Parks!
On a Telephoto Lens. The zoom on your camera phone is not the same thing. A true telephoto lens will magnify the picture before it gets to the photosensor. The magnify on your camera just does electronic stuff after the sensor and actually makes for bad pictures. So keep your phone camera at 1X and blow the picture up when you post to FB.
Timely video. We are heading there and Grand Teton in two weeks in our Airstream Classic 25fb. Staying 4 days at Grand Teton and 7 at Grant Village. Liked to have tried Madison but all booked up even though we tried 6 months in advance. Unlike Glacier they allow you to book a year in advance. We are expecting cool, wet weather and bugs.

I have a list of everything I need just watching your videos. My Husband and I learned a lot about how to properly hitch a trailer to a tow vehicle while watching your detailed video about how to properly do it. Yellowstone is on my bucket list. I was there 50 years ago as a teen and didn't really appreciate it like I should have. Thanks for the 20 tips. I hope to get there next year either early May or September.

Great Video! We now have a 29' 5th wheel and have found more pleasurable campsites outside the park proper. Just north and west offer options, go east, go south... When we had a smaller RV the family loved Grant and I liked Indian Creek because I could always seem to find a spot there and it is quiet. Yellowstone is almost as beautiful as Yosemite. OK, I'm biased!
I'm glad you mentioned horseback riding near the end of your video. One of the times I've been there, I took a trail ride with dinner. It was really nice. I've also done the tour buses, which gave me a good idea of where I wanted to go back to and spend more time. In all of the times I've been there, I've never been disappointed! Just a tip - we added water to our motor home at Fishing Bridge campground. We have spent 3 years trying to get that “Yellowstone smell” out of our water tank. Reminds me of our great trip each time i turn on the faucet!

I see you also read "Death in Yellowstone"! I worked at Fishing Bridge too, in Yellowstone's Centennial Year. Sadly, most of the campgrounds in YP (and all of Grand Teton) are now reservation only. Also, it can snow any day, any month, any time, anywhere, even at lower elevations... so bring your woolies!
Went through Yellowstone back in 1964. Dad said in and out in one day. We saw quite a bit of the park (considering). The structural support members inside of Yellowstone Inn appear to be wood. They are not. They are steel wrapped in wood coverings. Dad, a former iron worker, spotted it directly. Look closely and you'll see the steel inside the wood. That's been shown on TV, too. But, I agree that it's very pleasing to the eye. Great video - well done.

My husband and I went to Jackson and Yellowstone back in 2016 but only had three days left at the end of our westerly road trip. I just have to tell you guys THANK YOU!!!! I got my brand new first time ever Travel trailer yesterday.. it was a little damp out but the weather was pretty good.. I put the awning out to test it etc.. I decided to run to Walmart and get a few things... I was pulling out the driveway and realized my awning was out.. I remember you guys saying to always put it up when your leaving so I got out of my car and retracted it... while I was at Walmart the most horrible thunderstorm came and it was so bad I was trapped there for about an hour then had to take 3 separate routes to get home for all the trees that were down!!! So thank y'all so much!! Almost learned a lesson the hard way and thanks to y'all I didn't have to!!!
Great video, newbies to RVing ordered or travel trailer, get it in a month. Been watching all you videos and learning a lot. Fantastic job, can't wait to go on a vacation. Will definitely go to Yellowstone. We live in Fresno, CA and go to Yosemite often, love the national parks. Also saw your video on Utah and the parks, plan on going their.
I know what you mean about Yellowstone being special. My Grandpa was the Post Master for all of Yellowstone for many years & lived above the Post Office in Mammoth, lots of good memories. People think bison are slow, but they are actually extremely quick. In fact a lot of cutting horse trainers use them because they are quicker & more agile than domestic cattle.
I did both loops upper and lower in a couple days. Stopped at everything for a short time. I used the KOA at West Yellowstone and tented out there. This was one of many stops that I did on a large loop trip through the upper Midwest and Western part of the country. It took me 11 days. Was a great vacation for June right after school lets out for the summer. BTW , be sure to pack your winter gear as you get way up in altitude , the weather is still very cold up there at times. Also the same with your camping gear make sure it's winter rated for June in the mountains. Loved my time there. I did warn my girl friend at the time to NOT smoke her cigarettes at high altitude. Nope she didn't listen as usual . She suffered for it , LOL BTW , don't just watch out for the Bison but watch out for the huge Moose also. Either can ruin your day.
Our 19 foot long Escape 19 was perfect at Yellowstone. +10 Fishing Bridge is a parking lot. Other campgrounds are MUCH better. Bring your solar panel to keep your batteries charged up. Backing in for the win at Yellowstone. Pull through sites have strategically placed trees to smack the side of your trailer. Best to change camp locations every few days so you can save a LOT of driving. Park is huge!
My first trip to Yellowstone we took about 20 children and spent most of one day in the hot springs at the north entrance. They loved it but my last two visits I was in my motorhome and couldn't find anywhere to park. Seems they would make room for parking at an attraction that kids love so much.
Great video. This is so helpful. We are headed to Yellowstone this summer. Our daughter will celebrate her 18th birthday while there. We are so excited, my husband and I have each been there once for a short time. This will be our 2 teens first trip.
We took an RV trip from So California to Yellowstone and Grant Teton last August. It was wonderful! Would love to do it again. Next time we need more time in the parks. Like you said, Yellowstone is huge! Thanks for posting.

Saw many places I visited while there. Good job Folks! I planned 3 days there and ended up spending 7 days and still feel I did not really touch what what there. I do say the best spot to see Old Faithful is the upper deck in the lodge! Great chairs, no crowd and beer in hand! Besides you see the entire geyser basin from there not just Old Faithful. Back country hiking if awesome. Geysers not may see. Best advise I can add: If you see folks setup in a spot, go talk to them! I met several geyser sitter's there and learned so much from them. We saw Grand Basin Geyser go off only because I spotted and chatted with them! They had tried 3yrs to see it. We saw it only because I spotted and chatted with them.
Another fantastic video just like your round about the national parks in Utah - i'd love to see more of these on the places that you visit things like Dinali etc. - you guys give so much good information it would take me months to research all of this ! I wanted to travel there forever but didn't know much about the bears are the wildlife or where to camp etc. you guys have wrapped it all up in one video thank you thank you
one thing a lot of folks don't realize, even if they are aware that Yellowstone is a supervolcano, is that it also straddles the Continental Divide. You actually cross it twice on t he grand loop. Isa Lake with all its waterlilies straddles the divide itself, and has 2 creeks it feeds. One goes down to what will become the Lewis River, which is a tributary of the Snake (thus to the Columbia and the Pacific); the other feeds down to Yellowstone Lake, which is the source of the Yellowstone River. Other rivers in the park aren't negligible either; The Firehole and Gibbon join together at Madison Junction to form the Madison River, which flows out of the park, and is one of the 3 rivers that forms the Missouri. The Gallatin River has its headwaterse in a couple of creeks and springs inside the park's west boundary in Montana (Duck Creek and Snowflake spring are the ones I know best), and it's one of the other 3 rivers that makes the Missouri. The 3rd, the Jefferson, is the only one of the 3 that does not have its source within the Yellowstone boundaries. Glad you tell people to respect the wildlife. We always saw articles in the Bozeman paper every summer about the incidents where people are injured or killed. Like the idiots at Mammoth in the early 60s who put their kid on a bear's back "so the kid could have its picture taken with Yogi." But, yeah, Bison are the most unpredictable of the critters. Just a note on the canyon: It's not sandstone, since Yellowstone is a volcano. I copied t his from the wiki article on the canyon: The colors in the canyon are also a result of hydrothermal alteration. The rhyolite in the canyon contains a variety of different iron compounds. When the old geyser basin was active, the "cooking" of the rock caused chemical alterations in these iron compounds. Exposure to the elements caused the rocks to change colors. The rocks are oxidizing; in effect, the canyon is rusting. The colors indicate the presence or absence of water in the individual iron compounds. Most of the yellows in the canyon are the result of iron present in the rock rather than, as many people think, sulfur. Rhyolite is volcanic rock, not sedimentary, which is what sandstone and limestone are.

I worked as a waitress at Lake Hotel in the summer of 1964. Wish you had shown that magnificent hotel, the oldest in the park, with its formal dining room, serving the most gourmet food in the Park. Loved that beautiful place!

People seem to think they are at Disney World looking at cast a cast member in a bear suit. I've been many times and it's never ever the same park any 2 visits. Hot.Pots come and go. Wildlife sighting changes. People Do think bison are tame. They are not. At Hayden Valley we saw a dad work 2 tiny kids go way the hell into that valley with bison circling around them. The mom was freaking out by the road. We didn't stick around do see how he made it out. It's amazing! Love love! I've only seen 1 wolf, and 1 moose, Never antelope Treasured sittings!!
We absolutely love you two! Our trailer is filled with the pink stuff and put away till next spring. Living west of St. Louis, west of the Missouri River in St. Charles, well, it gets pretty cold here. So, your videos keep is enthused for spring. We are now watching your champagne toast to many of us out here! We just love you two and where you take us and what you show us.
Have loved all your videos (why are they still called videos) I think I have seen them all by now. Never been disappointed and enjoy them all. I hope to do Yellowstone again soon, I was on an Asian bus tour the last time there but it was a taste of Yellowstone to make me want to come back for more. Next time with my RV and TIME since I retire in 11 days! YA!
Scott, they're still called videos because they are in fact video recordings. They're not video TAPE recordings (although some of the footage in _this_ video which was from the early 90s might have been recorded on video tape), but they are in fact videos (not "films" but videos). Here's the actual dictionary definition of the word "video"... vid·e·o ˈvidēō/nounnoun: video; plural noun: videos1. the recording, reproducing, or broadcasting of moving visual images.2. a recording of moving visual images made digitally or on videotape.

Nothing wrong with asking at all. And they _are_ called digital recordings... digital _video_ recordings (see definition #2 in my original post.) The "video" designation just means that what's being recorded digitally is _visual_ data (as opposed to _audio_ or some other type of data.) -- By the way, forgive me for being such a nerd. :-p
I love going to Yellowstone and feel you did a good job of cautioning people from doing the "foolish" things that you have seen or heard others have done.

Great video and tips, Yellowestone is one of our favorites. We have had great bison and bear experiences, all in the Hayden Valley, early morning worked best for us.
Loved this! We just returned from a grand tour of Wyoming to see the eclipse, capped by a 2 1/2 day journey through Yellowstone and Grand Teton parks. We missed Old Faithful and the nearby geysers and the Old Faithful Inn, but we saw most of the rest. We especially liked the Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone, Mammoth Hot Springs, and West Thumb Geyser Basin. Saw lots of bison in the Hayden Valley.
If you want full hookups and don't want to worry about length, I suggest Colter Bay. You can do daily tours from that point of Tetons and near parts of Yellowstone. At West Yellowstone there is a KOA.... been there 3 times and I love it all!!
I grew up near Yellowstone in MT and can remember snowmobiling there as a kid, seeing bears on the cars before everything was regulated, and jumping off the cliffs and riding the waves in the Firehole river. I now live in SE Wyoming and have friends that have lived here all their lives or 20+ years and have never been there. SMH. Thanks for the videos. Nicely done!
My Lance is 21 ft x 8 ft wide with a 40” slideout and had trouble with the sites at these parks and that was the 2d site I tried there. Needing to have forestry staff hold back limbs so I could pull through and out. Looking forward to the newly renovated “fishing Bridge RV park “ in Yellowstone 2022!
your comment about it being bigger than rhode island got my curiosity going....so i had to check (not to see if you were right, just to check something else...) well, it turns out that it's also bigger than delaware. and it's ALMOST as big as both of those states, together. yellowstone - 3471 mi^2 rhode island - 1212 mi^2 delaware - 2489 mi^2 rhose island + delaware - 3701 mi^2 that blows my mind.

Just a question about the measurements when camping at Yellowstone Campground. We have a small camper, 17 ft. With it hooked up to our truck we're at about 33 ft. Are we going to have any issue booking a spot for a 30-foot RV / camper?
Yellowstone is in my backyard. I like the way you shared the beauty and also asked for respect of the area. It is a wonderful place to visit, but like anywhere, people can ruin a good day. It is a wild area that we get to be a guest in, let’s enjoy it and take care of it.
Great tips on Yellowstone! One thing folks might want to check out is a wonderful RV park called Red Rock RV Park. It is 20 minutes from West Yellowstone near Henry’s Lake, Idaho. A beautiful, well-run park with full hook-ups. We have stayed there for a month 5 years in a row. We like to fish, and there is great fishing all over that area. We usually take several days to drive to Yellowstone and back, each time taking a different route. A favorite day-long drive is to go from there south through Idaho along the west side of the Tetons, loop down through Jackson Hole, and back through Yellowstone and back to our RV. Don’t underestimate distances. The park is massive. You can’t cover it all in one day unless you’re insane.

I'm 67 and have traveled a lot worldwide, lived in Alaska for 7 years, and recently retired, but I've never been to Yellowstone. In a few weeks, I'm heading there to work for five months. We just returned from a 2.5 month trip and spent over a week in Yellowstone. You give such valuable information for travelers and it assisted my husband and I when we planned our time in the park. One thing I do want to mention, Buffalo are not only in the park, they are all around the park area too. We had a huge Buffalo run at full speed down a hill and in front of our truck and rig on the road 191 north of West Yellowstone. That was insane, he was running so fast his legs were literally coming out from out of him. We were extremely fortunate that he did not run into us, he would have destroyed our truck. So becareful when driving around Yellowstone..there are no fences...thank you so much for your insight and suggestions

I'm in Montana, so Yellowstone is just a Sunday drive away for me. I love the Park in every season. The Lamar Valley is also great for bison, along with wolves, and I've seen moose there as well. While I like the Boiling River, I also like swimming in the Firehole River. It passes through most of the geyser basins, and gets warmed up a bit along the way. The access is along the Firehole scenic loop, but no RVs or large vehicles allowed, since it's a very narrow road with some tight areas.

When camping in Yellowstone one of my favorite activities are the ranger talks in the amphitheater at the campground. Go every night, it is a different talk & subject every night. Also great source of knowing about bear & wolf activity in the park.
Great vid! I've been to Yellowstone many times and it never gets old! In fact, my son and daughter worked in the park summers at different times. My son loved it so much that he now lives and works in Gardiner.
We went last summer (Aug 2016) spent 7 nights in our Aliner Expedition. It was the best trip ever. We saw massive herd of bison in Lamar Valley. Black bear, Grizzly, Elk etc. Hands down the most wildlife I've seen in one place. I wish we could have stayed longer. I guess we'll just have to go back. Thanks for the great video.
I live in SE Idaho, so I have had the pleasure of going to Yellowstone, who knows how many times. I don't think you mentioned it, but I think the Lamar Valley is a great place to see huge Bison herds and wolves. I now only go there in spring and fall, heading up Tuesday for my spring visit. Fall is my favorite time to visit now, nothing like hearing the elk bugling, and seeing the huge Bulls claiming their "brides"
I know this is old but we are going this week and my daughter really wants to see a wolf. Keeping our fingers crossed. Planning on getting up early each morning hoping to see lots of wild life
So many people miss that. PEOPLE GO IN THE NE ENTRANCE, not the EAST!!! I live right between and there is no comparison but hardly anyone knows about the NE entrance. You will see Lamar Valley then. The Beartooth HW is prettier than anything you will see in Yellowstone!
We live in Idaho also we have camped at Madison several times we were at that camp site they were showing with a 25ft also yes it was a little harder but can be none.
My husband, 11 year old daughter and I spent 2 days in Jackson Hole, 4 days in Yellowstone, then drove over to the Black Hills of South Dakota, a couple of years ago. I would love to go back! We saw several bears, of course lots of bison and elk, and two moose near the Canyon area. Now I know how lucky we were to see the moose! We did the covered wagon dinner in the Roosevelt area and that was awesome. Best vacation ever!

Thank you! I went through Yellowstone with my family nearly 50 years ago, and think my parents made the mistake you mention of thinking they could drive through at the same rate as on an interstate. I've always wanted to go there again with my children, and now with my grandchildren. The information in your video is valuable to anyone wanting to plan a trip through there. All of your videos are practical, to the point, yet show the wonder, majesty, and awe of the area you are exploring.
Went there 3 years ago with my kids . Our first time. We are from California and stayed at fishing bridge campground. The dirt roads around our loop had big potholes. I just looked at it as a base camp and spent most of the day site seeing. The mosquitos come out and attack at night so we would just stay inside the trailer when the sun went down. Beautiful park with lots of wildlife. Can't wait to go back.
Have lived in Texas (which I love) my entire life. Went to Yellowstone in 1958 when I was 8. Beautiful scenery and loved the animals. Would like to get my family together for a trip, but that's next to impossible. Thanks for all the info.
As a kid in the 1950’s, driving through the park, the bears had been habituated to open garbage cans and basically hung out on the roads begging for “hand-outs” from the idiots who would open their windows, or even the car doors, to HAND PIECES OF BREAD, CANDY, OR CIGARETTES ( !!!? ) TO THE MOB OF BEARS! Those days have, thankfully, been ended! Love Mother Nature, and RESPECT HER WILDLIFE; they are still there because they are TOUGH. Love your videos, thank you very much. Major Krunch.
Sean and Kristy, we were in Yellowstone last Tuesday (May 17th)! still lots of snow. all of the overlooks at Grand Canyon on Yellowstone were still snowed in. We went to Old Faithful to see the afternoon eruption, now going off about every 90 minutes. Castle geyser, that is close to Old Faithful, erupted about 45 minutes prior to Old Faithful in the afternoon and i believe stole much of the pressure for the Old Faithful eruption. i couldn't believe the amount of visitors at this time of year. it was cold and windy, actually snowed on us waiting for Old Faithful. Old Faithful Inn was really busy but sill a great visit. Buffalo, elk, deer and a first for us, a very large wolf just across the river! it is a shame that we don't visit more often, we are only 100 miles from the park! thanks for the video. maybe one day we will run into each other in the park.
I took my thermal camera on my last visit to Yellowstone and made a few videos that I posted here. If you only see Yellowstone in the daytime you are missing spectacular views that thermal imagery will reveal. And the wildlife that you can see in total darkness is an extra treat.

Great advice. We've been there at least a half dozen times and Yellowstone never fails to amaze me. We've had snow on July 4th! Size does matter! The park is huge and the campsites are small. Watch the overhead too, because vents are vulnerable, just a random comment..... ;)
First time visiting your channel, and gosh, it brought back memories. We took our five kids to Yellowstone back in the 80s. Yes we're old, but so are they now. They still talk about that trip and tell their kids about it. I, personally, think that every American should visit Yellowstone. There is nothing like it anywhere else in the world.
Yellowstone is one of our favorite National parks. We have visited there about five times, generally in mid May with a week stop in Grand Teton first. Our first visit we camped in West Yellowstone. Other years we camped at Mamoth Hot Springs since it was closer to Lamar Valley where we could view the Wolfs and get into Cody to have a great steak dinner at the Proud cut restaurant and also tour the large gun museum.

We just travel around the US by car (I drive a Prius V), staying in motels. So when we did Yellowstone we stayed in West Yellowstone. Great Hotels, restaurants and services. It was summer, lots of traffic, so we did two tours of Yellowstone, one lower, one upper. That way we weren't personally stuck in traffic. and they know where the animals are. Then a day of going back to see bits we had enjoyed from the tours.
Yes, Old Faithful Lodge. If I win the lotto, I'm staying there. It is gorgeous. Mammoth was also a gorgeous area.
When we were there, the Lake Hotel food was good and the views awesome. But as you've noted, that varies year to year.
BRING a Telephoto Lens. I got some great animal shots that way. They were much further than they looked in the pictures. ;)
WARNING - the road going EAST to Cody WY, is steep and twisty. There are turnouts. Most RVers were polite and used the turnouts, so the more maneuverable cars could get past them. Thank you.
Oh, National Park Foundation, and Yellowstone Foundation. Yellowstone gets you a discount at their stores in the park. Both support the parks. None of the money goes to the government. They are 501(c)3 charities. Help the Parks!
On a Telephoto Lens. The zoom on your camera phone is not the same thing. A true telephoto lens will magnify the picture before it gets to the photosensor. The magnify on your camera just does electronic stuff after the sensor and actually makes for bad pictures. So keep your phone camera at 1X and blow the picture up when you post to FB.
Timely video. We are heading there and Grand Teton in two weeks in our Airstream Classic 25fb. Staying 4 days at Grand Teton and 7 at Grant Village. Liked to have tried Madison but all booked up even though we tried 6 months in advance. Unlike Glacier they allow you to book a year in advance. We are expecting cool, wet weather and bugs.

I have a list of everything I need just watching your videos. My Husband and I learned a lot about how to properly hitch a trailer to a tow vehicle while watching your detailed video about how to properly do it. Great Video! We now have a 29' 5th wheel and have found more pleasurable campsites outside the park proper. Just north and west offer options, go east, go south... When we had a smaller RV the family loved Grant and I liked Indian Creek because I could always seem to find a spot there and it is quiet. Yellowstone is almost as beautiful as Yosemite. OK, I'm biased!
I'm glad you mentioned horseback riding near the end of your video. One of the times I've been there, I took a trail ride with dinner. It was really nice. I've also done the tour buses, which gave me a good idea of where I wanted to go back to and spend more time. In all of the times I've been there, I've never been disappointed! Just a tip - we added water to our motor home at Fishing Bridge campground. We have spent 3 years trying to get that “Yellowstone smell” out of our water tank. Reminds me of our great trip each time i turn on the faucet!

I see you also read "Death in Yellowstone"! I worked at Fishing Bridge too, in Yellowstone's Centennial Year. Sadly, most of the campgrounds in YP (and all of Grand Teton) are now reservation only. Also, it can snow any day, any month, any time, anywhere, even at lower elevations... so bring your woolies!
Went through Yellowstone back in 1964. Dad said in and out in one day. We saw quite a bit of the park (considering). The structural support members inside of Yellowstone Inn appear to be wood. They are not. They are steel wrapped in wood coverings. Dad, a former iron worker, spotted it directly. Look closely and you'll see the steel inside the wood. That's been shown on TV, too. But, I agree that it's very pleasing to the eye. Great video - well done.

My husband and I went to Jackson and Yellowstone back in 2016 but only had three days left at the end of our westerly road trip. We are planning a trip this summer where Jackson will be the ONLY place we stay for an entire week. :-) I cannot wait to go back (hopefully with my brother in tow) and am grateful for all the information you've shared.

I just have to tell you guys THANK YOU!!!! I got my brand new first time ever Travel trailer yesterday.. it was a little damp out but the weather was pretty good.. I put the awning out to test it etc.. I decided to run to Walmart and get a few things... I was pulling out the driveway and realized my awning was out.. I remember you guys saying to always put it up when your leaving so I got out of my car and retracted it... while I was at Walmart the most horrible thunderstorm came and it was so bad I was trapped there for about an hour then had to take 3 separate routes to get home for all the trees that were down!!! So thank y'all so much!! Almost learned a lesson the hard way and thanks to y'all I didn't have to!!!

Great video, newbies to RVing ordered or travel trailer, get it in a month. Been watching all you videos and learning a lot. Fantastic job, can't wait to go on a vacation. Will definitely go to Yellowstone. We live in Fresno, CA and go to Yosemite often, love the national parks. Also saw your video on Utah and the parks, plan on going their.
I know what you mean about Yellowstone being special. My Grandpa was the Post Master for all of Yellowstone for many years & lived above the Post Office in Mammoth, lots of good memories. People think bison are slow, but they are actually extremely quick. In fact a lot of cutting horse trainers use them because they are quicker & more agile than domestic cattle.
I did both loops upper and lower in a couple days.
Stopped at everything for a short time.
I used the KOA at West Yellowstone and tented out there.
This was one of many stops that I did on a large loop trip through the upper Midwest and Western part of the country.
It took me 11 days.
Was a great vacation for June right after school lets out for the summer.
BTW , be sure to pack your winter gear as you get way up in altitude , the weather is still very cold up there at times.
Also the same with your camping gear make sure it's winter rated for June in the mountains.
Loved my time there.
I did warn my girl friend at the time to NOT smoke her cigarettes at high altitude.
Nope she didn't listen as usual .
She suffered for it , LOL
BTW , don't just watch out for the Bison but watch out for the huge Moose also.
Either can ruin your day.
Our 19 foot long Escape 19 was perfect at Yellowstone. +10 Fishing Bridge is a parking lot. Other campgrounds are MUCH better. Bring your solar panel to keep your batteries charged up. Backing in for the win at Yellowstone. Pull through sites have strategically placed trees to smack the side of your trailer. Best to change camp locations every few days so you can save a LOT of driving. Park is huge!
My first trip to Yellowstone we took about 20 children and spent most of one day in the hot springs at the north entrance. They loved it but my last two visits I was in my motorhome and couldn't find anywhere to park. Seems they would make room for parking at an attraction that kids love so much.
Great video. This is so helpful. We are headed to Yellowstone this summer. Our daughter will celebrate her 18th birthday while there. We are so excited, my husband and I have each been there once for a short time. This will be our 2 teens first trip.
We took an RV trip from So California to Yellowstone and Grant Teton last August. It was wonderful! Would love to do it again. Next time we need more time in the parks. Like you said, Yellowstone is huge! Thanks for posting.

Thank you, we have been debating taking our 36' fifth wheel but I think we will probably borrow our old camper from our Daughter so we can have more options.
Saw many places I visited while there. Good job Folks! I planned 3 days there and ended up spending 7 days and still feel I did not really touch what what there. I do say the best spot to see Old Faithful is the upper deck in the lodge! Great chairs, no crowd and beer in hand! Besides you see the entire geyser basin from there not just Old Faithful. Back country hiking if awesome. Geysers not may see. Best advise I can add: If you see folks setup in a spot, go talk to them! I met several geyser sitter's there and learned so much from them. We saw Grand Basin Geyser go off only because I spotted and chatted with them! They had tried 3yrs to see it. We saw it only because I spotted and chatted with them.
Another fantastic video just like your round about the national parks in Utah - i'd love to see more of these on the places that you visit things like Dinali etc. - you guys give so much good information it would take me months to research all of this ! I wanted to travel there forever but didn't know much about the bears are the wildlife or where to camp etc. you guys have wrapped it all up in one video thank you thank you
one thing a lot of folks don't realize, even if they are aware that Yellowstone is a supervolcano, is that it also straddles the Continental Divide. You actually cross it twice on t he grand loop. Isa Lake with all its waterlilies straddles the divide itself, and has 2 creeks it feeds. One goes down to what will become the Lewis River, which is a tributary of the Snake (thus to the Columbia and the Pacific); the other feeds down to Yellowstone Lake, which is the source of the Yellowstone River.
Other rivers in the park aren't negligible either; The Firehole and Gibbon join together at Madison Junction to form the Madison River, which flows out of the park, and is one of the 3 rivers that forms the Missouri. The Gallatin River has its headwaterse in a couple of creeks and springs inside the park's west boundary in Montana (Duck Creek and Snowflake spring are the ones I know best), and it's one of the other 3 rivers that makes the Missouri. The 3rd, the Jefferson, is the only one of the 3 that does not have its source within the Yellowstone boundaries.
Glad you tell people to respect the wildlife. We always saw articles in the Bozeman paper every summer about the incidents where people are injured or killed. Like the idiots at Mammoth in the early 60s who put their kid on a bear's back "so the kid could have its picture taken with Yogi." But, yeah, Bison are the most unpredictable of the critters.
Just a note on the canyon: It's not sandstone, since Yellowstone is a volcano. I copied t his from the wiki article on the canyon:
The colors in the canyon are also a result of hydrothermal alteration. The rhyolite in the canyon contains a variety of different iron compounds. When the old geyser basin was active, the "cooking" of the rock caused chemical alterations in these iron compounds. Exposure to the elements caused the rocks to change colors. The rocks are oxidizing; in effect, the canyon is rusting. The colors indicate the presence or absence of water in the individual iron compounds. Most of the yellows in the canyon are the result of iron present in the rock rather than, as many people think, sulfur.
Rhyolite is volcanic rock, not sedimentary, which is what sandstone and limestone are.
Thank you for showing a map and telling people exactly where the park is. I am not from the U.S. and it really helps that you do not assume we know where everything is at. Very good video!
I worked as a waitress at Lake Hotel in the summer of 1964. Wish you had shown that magnificent hotel, the oldest in the park, with its formal dining room, serving the most gourmet food in the Park. Loved that beautiful place!
Great video and great tips guys. I really learn a lot by watching your exploits! It never ceases to amaze me how people can fail to respect wildlife. People seem to think they are at Disney World looking at cast a cast member in a bear suit. In reality that wildlife is 800 pounds of muscle, claws, teeth, and horns that can run three times faster than they can. What could go wrong? Right?

I've been many times and it's never ever the same park any 2 visits. Hot.Pots come and go. Wildlife sighting changes. People Do think bison are tame. They are not. At Hayden Valley we saw a dad work 2 tiny kids go way the hell into that valley with bison circling around them. The mom was freaking out by the road. We didn't stick around do see how he made it out.
It's amazing! Love love! I've only seen 1 wolf, and 1 moose, Never antelope Treasured sittings!!

We absolutely love you two! Our trailer is filled with the pink stuff and put away till next spring. Living west of St. Louis, west of the Missouri River in St. Charles, well, it gets pretty cold here. So, your videos keep is enthused for spring. Have loved all your videos (why are they still called videos) I think I have seen them all by now. Never been disappointed and enjoy them all. I hope to do Yellowstone again soon, I was on an Asian bus tour the last time there but it was a taste of Yellowstone to make me want to come back for more. Next time with my RV and TIME since I retire in 11 days! YA!

Scott, they're still called videos because they are in fact video recordings. They're not video TAPE recordings (although some of the footage in _this_ video which was from the early 90s might have been recorded on video tape), but they are in fact videos (not "films" but videos). Here's the actual dictionary definition of the word "video"...
vid·e·o ˈvidēō/nounnoun: video; plural noun: videos1. the recording, reproducing, or broadcasting of moving visual images.2. a recording of moving visual images made digitally or on videotape.

Nothing wrong with asking at all. And they _are_ called digital recordings... digital _video_ recordings (see definition #2 in my original post.) The "video" designation just means that what's being recorded digitally is _visual_ data (as opposed to _audio_ or some other type of data.) -- By the way, forgive me for being such a nerd. :-p
I love going to Yellowstone and feel you did a good job of cautioning people from doing the "foolish" things that you have seen or heard others have done.

Great video and tips, Yellowestone is one of our favorites. We have had great bison and bear experiences, all in the Hayden Valley, early morning worked best for us.
Loved this! We just returned from a grand tour of Wyoming to see the eclipse, capped by a 2 1/2 day journey through Yellowstone and Grand Teton parks. We missed Old Faithful and the nearby geysers and the Old Faithful Inn, but we saw most of the rest. We especially liked the Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone, Mammoth Hot Springs, and West Thumb Geyser Basin. Saw lots of bison in the Hayden Valley.
If you want full hookups and don't want to worry about length, I suggest Colter Bay. You can do daily tours from that point of Tetons and near parts of Yellowstone. At West Yellowstone there is a KOA.... been there 3 times and I love it all!!

I grew up near Yellowstone in MT and can remember snowmobiling there as a kid, seeing bears on the cars before everything was regulated, and jumping off the cliffs and riding the waves in the Firehole river. I now live in SE Wyoming and have friends that have lived here all their lives or 20+ years and have never been there. SMH. Thanks for the videos. Nicely done!
My Lance is 21 ft x 8 ft wide with a 40” slideout and had trouble with the sites at these parks and that was the 2d site I tried there. Needing to have forestry staff hold back limbs so I could pull through and out. Looking forward to the newly renovated “fishing Bridge RV park “ in Yellowstone 2022!

your comment about it being bigger than rhode island got my curiosity going....so i had to check (not to see if you were right, just to check something else...) well, it turns out that it's also bigger than delaware. and it's ALMOST as big as both of those states, together.
