Two days after a dorsal wound to the little finger over the PIP joint: DIP joint can flex within a small range, less than the uneffected side. PIP joint can't flex BUT it is sutured dorsally and has steristrips closing wound (flexion of the PIP kept opening the wound). I think extensor tendon was exposed but did not appear severed. Would it be reasonable to think that this lack of PIPJ flexion is due to swelling and restriction from the stitches and bandaging dorsally? A dorsal wound wouldn't normally cause lack of flexion of the fingers at either PIP or DIP would it? There is still active flexion and extension of the MCP joint of the little finger (proximal to the wound).
One week back IAM injured by accident doctors surgery the flexer tendon repair and I have one doubt I will get back my hand oldly or problemtic please tell me
How well you recover is dependent on multiple factors. However I would advise you adhere strictly to your physio programme to give yourself the best chance of the best recovery. Best of luck!

Im asking because when I flat palm on table extend wrist upwards my forearm muscles move weird, they shift laterally more so on the arm that has tennis elbow pain. Im not sure if I ruptured one of the tendons or muscles due to serious and extended over use such that I cant even grip a 1lb object without pain or if its just severe DMOS and fatigue. Thanks for your help.
Regrettably it is difficult to diagnose on the description alone. Sorry. But I would strongly advise you seek out a good upper limb surgeon, soon. Best of luck🙏🏽
Ex Athlete/coach here I was breaking a fight up between 2 of my dogs and got bit through the top of my hand and out my palm just behind the top of my middle finger knuckle by one tooth. I don’t have insurance so I’m winging it. I have a very high pain threshold but I was literally kicking my leg like crazy in the utility room because I didn’t want to scare my 2 young girls 7-9 but the pain was very intense. It’s been 8 days today and the wound is finally kinda healed still a droplet of blood on the band aid I can bend fingers but can’t close my fist completely and if I touch the spot of the wound it’s still pretty sensitive. My fingers feel kinda stiff and dry also there’s some odd sensations but not too often. I’m worried it could be a flexor tendon but hoping it’s internal inflammation or something like that ANY insight would be so appreciated. I can’t afford to go to the hospital I recently lost my insurance. I’m worried I could lose range of motion or in my hand or worse. I took some antibiotics from my nurse sister it was Doxycycline bc she didn’t have Amox culvate. Any advice,any info,any words of encouragement would be great. I hope everyone going through these similar problems heals up well. *Is it very odd for a deep puncture wound dog bite like this to still be sore and as I described even after a week. I’m a slow healer in general but I just thought I’d be further a long after 7.5 days. If there’s a email I could send a photo to I’d truly appreciate it.
Dog bites are not only the obvious skin wound, but also the crush injury between the dog’s jaws. FIRST, you need to ensure that you do not have an infection; infections secondary yo nite wounds can become very nasty, even limb/life threatening. Second, you need to ensure that you do mot have any injury to deeper structures (tendon, nerves, bones, etc). I would HIGHLY RECOMMEND that you seek medical advice. There must be hospitals serving uninsured patients? Best of luck🙏🏽

Is there anything I’ve mentioned that worries you as a doctor? I feel like ligament between my thumb and wrist is sore I could some of the swelling inside cause the tendons or ligiments to be feeling sore. Do you have a way I can email you a photo? My relative young boy is post elbow internal fixation, he can’t flex both index and thumb at the middle interphalangeal joints. Does this mean that the flexor tendons of the fingers are injured/ruptured and need tendon repair surgery?
I have lacerated my fdp tendon on my pinkie finger (not sure if full or partial) and am scheduled for surgery on Monday. I haven’t lost any feeling and I feel like I can sense slight movement in the top when I try to flex it. Having done research into the recovery and levels of patent satisfaction I am honestly considering not having the procedure done. The laceration was not vastly deep. are there any major complications that could arise, not including the sacrifice of movement in my finger tip, from not going ahead with the procedure? I am 23 year old boxer and exercise is an essential part of my life - I don’t know if I can go 3 or so months without working out and am seriously having doubts over the surgery. Also, many people report scar tissue inhibiting their ability to flex the joint anyway so is it worth it? Any advice would be appreciated 👍🏻
Sorry to hear about your injury, James. Of course the final decision is yours, but if this were my finger I would certainly have the operation. From your description you may have a tendon and a digital nerve injury (thus reduced sensation). The FDP tendon is important for bending the finger tip and if you don’t have it you shall miss it. The little finger is VERY important in power grip, and if you cannot bend you little finger tip it sticks out and shall get in the way. Also, if you have a partial injury, the tendon is weakened, and may snap in the future; fixing that, or doing a repair much later, may be much more difficult, may require more than one operation, and can have a worse outcome. The nerve repair is not so much to return sensation but to prevent chronic pain if a neuroma forms; the chance of a painful neuroma is far greater from a unrepaired nerve than an injured nerve which has been repaired. There are always possible complications to surgery, but in my opinion, operation in this case, performed by an experienced hand surgeon, is a no-brainer; the benefits far outweigh the risks. As I said, YOU have to decide. Hope this helps. Best of luck!👍🏽

Possibly. Would certainly suggest that your relative be assessed by a hand surgeon to ascertain the cause of the problem, and correct if necessary.
Just going on whta you have said, it seems that the patient has ruptured or divided their flexor tendons of the little finger.

The little finger is VERY important in power grip, and if you cannot bend you little finger tip it sticks out and shall get in the way. Also, if you have a partial injury, the tendon is weakened, and may snap in the future; fixing that, or doing a repair much later, may be much more difficult, may require more than one operation, and can have a worse outcome.
The nerve repair is not so much to return sensation but to prevent chronic pain if a neuroma forms; the chance of a painful neuroma is far greater from a unrepaired nerve than an injured nerve which has been repaired.
There are always possible complications to surgery, but in my opinion, operation in this case, performed by an experienced hand surgeon, is a no-brainer; the benefits far outweigh the risks.
