It's amazing...just pure amazing. The parallels between this and blues are amazing. There's an old joke about asking a blues man to play something twice and him saying no he can't cuz the moment is gone. That's pretty much how this is. Do it again exactly ain't an option. The whole art form is a work in progress. Not a singular reproducible product. It's carpe diem live.
OLD SKOOL BOYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY.... No headphones, no Laptop, no Push button self beat mixer etc....Just pure Old Skool D.J Skillz....KLASIIIIIIIIIIIIIIICK.
I miss everything vinyl seriously I mean not to be a dinosaur but it was more raw and challenging now with the digital world. Anyone can become a deejay on all levels which sucks
I love vinyl performances, but I dont think Vinyl should be a determining factor of whether or not someone is good at it. Just because someone uses digital doesn't make it any more easier for them. From what I know of, A-trax and a ton of others use digital controllers now (what Dave Sargent said). Theres also tons of dj fail compilations that use digital. Besides, don't we want more people to become djs and have accessible options to get started?
@@funnman1777 I agree with you but something about this era, I personally don't hear sets like this anymore from people who are on digital, I don't think its necessarily the digital by itself but vinyl by its nature is imperfect, sure you could fuck up on digital too but you really had to lock in those instincts on vinyl compared to digital. I'm not anti-digital at all though. Idk, maybe its just that DJing and turntablism is more so in a EDM oriented place nowadays than it was before.
Craze is and will always be the best. The Michael Jordan of turntablelism period. A-Trak would fall into 2nd place only because craze became his mentor and would become 2nd best when he joined the ALLIES CREW.
I think this was San Francisco??? Dv8? I was there if so. Saw him in the green room just in the zone . A monster just starting to realize all his gifts. The musicality and the creative vision sets him apart. But still the 97 championship was all time.
Lol yea Ian has no clue what he's talking bout and apparently hates all modern DJ's/EDM music, as he tries to find reasons justifying his close minded belief that they all suck.
It's not the CZcams way, but you all might try saying things in a kind way vs condescending, aggressive, and rude. I never noticed most turntablists don't cue up with headphones, though I did know they mark the spot on the record...so thanks for pointing that out. Also, don't make assumptions. I love edm, use ableton and Serato, and since I'm not a pro at it, I appreciate the work it takes to make it sound good. That being said I have a special appreciation for turntablists using vinyl, especially now that Serato is the standard for the DMC comps. So it's just my opinion, but I'd say chill a bit, don't take yourselves so seriously and try to be nice. That's what we all really want from each other, isn't it?
funny how ppl chiming in on what song he's using and guessing what it is and wrong because it was a battle record and you don't know what a battle record is.
he should have entered with this routine, woulda killed plus ones "number one" set! + should have posted the showcase from US finals - much cleaner & ice t is funny as!
Sounds like Dj Premier "None of Y'all Better." Sounds sped up, probably on 45 rpm. However this has to be a sample from something else, I don't think Premier released this pre 2000/2001.
I wonder if people understand how difficult this is to do. Dude is a monster
Nah. If they have never tried them selves, they have no idea...
Atleast as hard as mastering a difficult instrument
hard no
@Niels J. de Wit Same, it's like a martial arts kata
Yeah! That is one hell of a routine to remember. Monster
He was only 19 and had already carried the title of one of the best for the 4 years leading to this performance.
Funny going to the older DJ sets they are for the most part so much better than most of the recent stuff.
This is one of the best turntablists in the universe.

Who's still here in 2023?
The young A-Trak was such a fuckin genius that no other DMCs could battle or compare with in the human history.
A-Trak... THE BEST!
A very very small percentage of people could look at 2 turntables and a stack of records and think to do that.
It's amazing...just pure amazing. The parallels between this and blues are amazing. a common misconception. A-Trak and all the turntablists you love are using digital and still killing it in different ways.

Seems like someone could launch a new DJ tournament.. with specific limits and age groups to let the OGS in
