    I don't know if my comment will be appreciated but here it goes. In the mid 60's my mother grew a lemon seed in a pot of soil, with no problem,. It eventually grew to about 5 feet in height and had been upgraded in several pots as it grew. It was healthy, but it had one problem ... it dripped a gummy substance which eventually caused my mother to want to find it a new home. Since lemon trees are warm weather trees, it would not have survived being planted outside so the only way for it to survive was to find it another home. I did the adoption and I found a very nice couple with a green house that wanted it. Be careful with growing citrus plants, they may have the same problem. On the other hand, she also started a peach from a peach she ate and also potted it and it grew until it was big enough to plant in our garden. And it gave HUGE PEACHES every year.

      So, I was talking to someone and they brought up citrus trees and said that you COULD have them in cold places and explained how! Basically, get a pot with wheels, leave it out in the warm weather and have it in during the cold weather.
      Hope that helps!

      I don't peel off the husk. I just soak the seeds in water overnight or a few days until I'm ready to plant. They usually sprout within a few days up to 3 weeks.... I've done it this way for oranges, ponkan, kalamansi, lime and pomelo.... They like to be watered regularly.... They like the sun, too but not when they're newly sprouted, they're babies after all. When they get about 5-6 leaves I leave them out in the sun longer... Now I have more mini trees than I know what to do with so I give them out to friends who are interested.

    I tried the experiment by leaving 1) two seeds with the outer covering, 2) two I removed all of the outer covering, 3) two I removed half of the covering and 4) two I removed 1/4 of the covering. Number three and number four: all four seed germinated on day 5. The number one both germinated on day ten and strangely enough number two, only one germinated on day ten. I potted all of them on the day I removed the coverings and planted them in identical pots with identical potting mix. (Each one of the same type shared one pot.) I put them on top of a heating pad for seedlings, inside a tray with a plastic cover. My theory is that the partial covering protected the seeds, same as the one with the intact covering, but that one took longer because the seeds had to break the covering. The first four already look like tiny little trees on day 15.

      Here's a new update as of today. The ones that I removed all the covering are now both the shortest (1/2") and the tallest (3 1/2"). The ones that I removed none of the covering are 1 1/2 and 2 1/2 inches, exactly the same as the ones that I removed 1/2 of the covering, but the smallest of the two that I did not remove the covering had a bit of damage in two of its leaves, probably trying to break the cover. The ones I removed 1/4 of the cover are 3 and 2 1/2 inch tall (The best results are these last ones, since the smallest of the two has 5 leaves already and the rest either 2 or 3.)

      New update, the little trees that are looking the nicest are the ones where I only removed part of the skin. The others are fine but not as nice. Not including the last one to show up, from the set where I removed all the skin, it's not growing but it does have two tiny leaves finally. They all get the same care. The rest are now from 3"-5" tall. I'm planning on transplanting them to individual pots and start to feed them. In other words, you don't need to remove all the skin, just enough to make it easier for the baby to break through.

    Thank you for your informative video. I had viewed other videos that used complicated methods to start citrus plants. They looked like way to much effort to get a seed to sprout. Yours on the other hand seemed too simple to work; however, I followed your method using 8 lemon seeds and lo and behold I had 8 seeds sprout. After a month and a half I now have 8 healthy seedlings well on their way to eventually being replanted. Your method way exceeded my expectations. I deviated from your method in one way. I planted the seedlings in peat pots and eventually will transfer them pot and all to a larger container. Once they get big enough I'll separate the seedlings into their own containers. If all the seedlings flourish , I'll keep the best 2 and give away the rest.

    I remember doing this in pre school . We did it with beans so I believe it could be almost the same with all fruit. Correct me if I'm wrong ofc, Idk anything about this stuff after all. I've put 4 seeds peeled and 4-5 unpeeled. I'll be back with an update😊

    • @lextracks6694
      @lextracks6694 Před 4 lety +17

      Update after a week. The ones that were peeled sprouted, most of the ones that weren't ,rot. I'll say that's a success. I was looking into the soil I need, I guess soil for flowers is as good as any😊 I'll be growing strawberries too 😍

      They are growing pretty nice, I accidently made 4 plants😂 from here on out is a slow process of growing I guess.. I replanted them in a bigger pot and left them be. I water them every or every other day. Strawberries finally came through as well after 2 failures😂 I hope I'll have some to eat next year 😊

    • @lextracks6694
      @lextracks6694 Před 4 lety

      Bought a bunch of strawberries and used a hairpin to get seeds off of it. I recommend that you freeze seeds or put them in a fridge (I think that will suffice) before planting them. When you plant them just "sprinkle" them over some soil and let water do the "implanting". And please dont hate me I dont know the terms for this, I'm doing it cuz I'm bored 😂 good luck😊

      If you have access to the mother tree, you can make a clone of it, by taking a few branches, and then have a fruiting tree faster, and it will be an exact replica, that the seed might not produce the same fruit, because citrus doesn't grow true to seed. But if ypu don't mind waiting for the fruit, this is great too 😄
