I remember this concert so well. Myself, cousins and Auntie ended up being stranded there due to the fact that we'd tried to sneak backstage, in the naive hope of catching a glimpse of MJ. Unfortunately, we only met with Security and Crew and so missed our coach home and ended up staying overnight at the local police station. What a showman!!! Worth the 36 hours of sleep deprivation, and lack of hearing for the next few days lol. The world has lost a true honourable gentle man xx

This is a blast from the past I was never a big Michael Jackson fan but I got offered a ticket so went along for the spectacle, it turned out to be one of the best gigs I ever attended. We got there early and a bit hung over after seeing The Fields of the Nephillim at the Royal Court the night before and ending up in Planet X. We got in just after the gates opened so it was a long wait and the PA seemed to have How Soon is Now by the Smiths on a loop to a point where any time I hear the intro I think of Michael Jackson, Kim Wilde's support set came as a relief from the boredom of waiting and a chance for a sing along.
Michael's stage presence and showmanship was awesome and his backing band were as tight a band as I've ever seen, their sound was really meaty with a bass end that felt like a punch in the chest, it was nice that he gave his keyboard player Greg Pillinganes a chance to showcase his cover of The Yellow Magic Orchestra's Behind the Mask. I don't know if it was part of the show but when the whole crowd sang the chorus to The Way You Make Me Feel seemed to briefly stop him in his tracks. His set was relentless, it was just hit after hit, a real crowd pleaser and well worth the money.
The crowd size was supposed to be 125k but it was easily way more, I saw stewards on the gates taking ten and twenty pound notes instead of tickets as soon as the gates were open, they must have made a fortune and to be honest I can't blame them, I've done concert and festival security and it's not any fun or well paid. In spite of all the controversy surrounding Michael Jackson a few years later he was a truly gifted performer and the Aintree gig ranks up there with the very best I've seen and if an act was big in the last 40 years I've seen them.

Who cares what they called him. If you attended that concert you got your money's worth. He was amazing. My daughter was 13 in the April and I bought the ticket for her birthday present. He wasn't there until September and I worried that she would be disappointed. We ended up at the front but to one side of the stage. Michael used the whole of the stage so I had one very happy little girl! Kim Wilde was awful but he made up for it. Took us an hour to do the 20 min. walk home but we were very happy! Thank you, Michael, for a night we will never forget!

They didn't deserve to have Michael there in Liverpool. In fact England didn't ever deserve him. I believe they never forgave him for being more talented and more successful than the Beatles and then for buying the Beatles Music Catalogue.

He was so damn talented and then he bought the Beatles Catalogue. A lot of people did not like that. It was okay for him to be a great singer and dancer but he shouldn't have thought he could go and become a genius business person and buy that Catalogue. I believe that is when the goal to bring him down began.

Odd when there was a tickets sell-out and the whole report was very upbeat as him being a huge superstar with fans beside themselves, fainting and in shock. £200,000 of souvenirs sold and 2million tickets sold! It was phenomenal! Michael had fireworks at the very end because it was the last concert of his European tour. He said, "Goodnight Liverpool. I love you." moments before the fireworks started. My partner (at the time) and I also bumped into, Sheryl Crow, Jon Clark and Don Boyette (after the show) in the McDoanlds in Ranelagh St, Liverpool. I think they were staying in Adelphi Hotel at L3 5UL. Michael was staying in the Atlantic Tower Hotel at L3 9RE and had booked an entire floor!

Thank you very much. Yes I know. It does seem, in life if you try to do good, there are always ignorant people, who will do you down, and Michael was no different. I am always amazed how he did all that, so much, with health issues, the media, and more maybe, stressful in the extreme. God bless his soul.

Oh wow! Thanks LEON5KI for the great memories!! I so remember when MJ made his 'comeback'. And dang he did it in such a BIG way. Such a difference from his "Off the Wall' days back in 79(ish) Yea...those were the good ol days. My bf and I went to Disney Land just to see "Captain EO". That was so amazing and Michael was so friggin HOTT!! (We're the same age so it's ok. :)
    Yea...great memories.....

It's not just mocking him or name calling. its racist( jacko is a name of a rare monkey) Tkiphis was the beginning of attacks on him which culminated in his death 21 years later. It took them long to kill him but they did .

oh they were the good old days. noone on the internet conpanies and people buying up all the tickets you had to stand in line for hours or get a ticket by post. Much fairer i think. I saw michael jackson in i think the early 90,s on his dangerous world tour at roundhay park in leeds and i havent seen to this day such pandamonium at a concert. i dont think we will ever see the likes of jackson again he was talented and worked all his life and gave his life to his music and his fans. when you went to see jackson live you got a show.
