    My Dad was a Major in the D.O.D.. we grew up knowing what order was.. but I thank God he was a loving father. Though he had a big house in the barracks we lived in shaggy and he came home daily .I think it played a big role in giving us a normal life even if we attended the best private school..it should be balanced and Government should support this families

    Njoroge was my neighbor...used to be addicted so much to alcohol. He was dismissed from the military. I used to look for him everyday and take him to the house after blacking out. He suffered serious PTSD. Glad to see he is okay.

    Honestly this PSTD is not taken seriously in Kenya especially after this Somali war.My neighbor refused to back to army after Operation in Somali 2012-2014 currently he has sold almost every thing due alcohol and separated from wife.

    I knew Njoro from UoN back in 2010/ 2011 I could hardly recognize him, he has changed from the confident young man I knew who wanted to be a politician. Oh God where is this generation going 😭😭. Dr. Kingori I think it is time we talk about short cut to life and I feel military and police is a major scam. I am still happy he has kept the good vibes. It was a good one, except for those of us who knew Njoro before military 😭

    I wish we could find a way to accommodate the retired officers, the sick and those sacked to the community. I noticed it's a global situation and these guys through hell the training affect them later, what they go through wars and PTSD now majorly affect them. They should be provided counseling also

    This is amazing,is strange how as people refuse to provide support to veterans or any other human beings suffering from psychological difficulties in daily life. Counseling support should be part of primary health care in Kenya.

    Soldiers are humans too- They are our uncles, our aunts, our daughters, our sons, our mothers and our fathers- For the service men and women like Njoroge out there this maybe an eye-opening in a nation that's still extending it's dimensions and developing in many sectors, but believe me- we will live to tell their stories differently and brightly, with tears of joy and memories of appreciation- We shall get there as a nation.

      No despising but those who experience PSTDs are in the wrong place. Myself I've seen dead bodies since day 1 in medical school. Thereafter I've seen so many people succumb to various illnesses under my eyes. This has never bothered me to the extent of dreaming with such happenings. Actually I hardly used gloves for my dissections while at the medical school. Only cry babies or those who paid 400k to join KDF suffer from such.

    This is the issue that needs to be addressed.I always feel people who sit in parliament should have the poor pay while those risking their life's should have the best pay and medical care.

    Kenya is a cruel country. You take a poor but bright boy from University, give him some training and ship him to war in Somalia. When he comes back and needs the country to stand with him for what he has gone through, you dismiss him from the job.

      Your uncle was a coward. Kenyan contingent to Sierra Leone fought only a single battle and 12 were captured. There was no real combat there as compared to what is experienced now in Somalia.

Every battle has a risk of loss of life so he still deserves respect.     My love for the military wasn't going to let me miss this episode.
    Very insightful; however rtd maj mukuria doesn't mention that the military has wellness centers that give these mental health services to the soldiers who need them.
    I think it's important to acknowledge the efforts it's putting in.
