    We decided to feature a Philip K. Dick story for our 100th episode because we began the podcast with PKD’s The Hanging Stranger almost 19 months ago. We’ll kick off our next 100 episodes with a double shot of Philip K. Dick in three days.
    Our story can be found in the December 1954 issue of Imagination Stories of Science and Fantasy. Brent only wanted to look around the planet; the trouble was, he looked too far! Turn to page 66 for Strange Eden by Philip K. Dick…
    Next week on The Lost Sci-Fi Podcast, a special Twofer Tuesday. A double shot of Philip K. Dick. A brave new world or was it the long way home-for these men. And, A hideous nightmare seemed the culture of Williamson’s world-to men who knew nothing of beauty. Survey Team and Souvenir by Philip K. Dick. That’s next week on The Lost Sci-Fi Podcast, with at least one lost vintage sci-fi short story in every episode.

    PKD was a smart guy, he could adapt a story from a greek poem and convince you it was a completely original story.
    I guess he wasn't interested in asking her name? For anyone interested, her name is Circe.

    Thanks for the story! i wonder how people would read this seventy years ago. Also this story is very different from the later work of Philip K. Dick. Amazing!

    Aah, my Sunday morning is now in full swing. Put the dogs out and fed them, put some washing on, tidied up a (very) little, and now I have my Killer Coffee Company, 'Darker Side' cuppa, and have some Philip K Dick, narrated by one of the best in the business (the best) to listen to as I enjoy the morning (it's 08:27 Sunday morning here...I'm nearly 30 minutes late).

      You know Brad you can listen to them whenever you want. We're thankful for you and we know you'll listen as close to "release" time as you possibly can. We finally made it to Sunday morning here in Costa Rica.

      @@VintageSciFiAudiobooks Hehe, yep, I know :). However, you tend to release your latest stories at about the same time as I'm sitting down with a cuppa after doing the essentials in the morning. Perfect timing for me, and a break from catching up on emails and other stuff.

      I am afraid I've got some bad news. Only one story in the collection, "Tomorrow's Worlds" is in the public domain. That story is Before Eden by Arthur C. Clarke and we have plans to include it in the not too distant future on The Lost Sci-Fi Podcast. Thanks for listening!!

      No doubt. It's kinda creepy to narrate his work sometimes. At the same time I recognize that his writing took place in a different time. But you are right, he wrote a lot of lustful lines.

      Happy to help! @gwendolyn2001 were we talking about Mary Shelley previously? I was going to comment on your reply, if indeed that was you, but I forgot to notice what video you were commenting on. Now that we literally have thousands of comments on more than 100 videos I need to remember to note what video the comment is on. Because once I approve it, it can be difficult to find the dang thing again! So if that was you we're doing at least one Shelley story this month, maybe more.

    • @gwendolyn2001
      @gwendolyn2001 Před 11 měsíci +1

      @@VintageSciFiAudiobooksyou let me know that you were going to post some of Shelley's short stories. I did my MA thesis, in part, on her, and I am very much a fan. I do NOT expect you to remember such things! I have fewer students (somewhere around 75) than you do comments, and I sure the heck don't keep them straight.

      Philip K. Dick pushed the envelope as far as he could, and when you consider that this story was written almost 70 years ago I would think it would have been quite shocking then.
