    What do you think is the biggest problem with bread in the US?

    • @lesliemoore1656
      @lesliemoore1656 Před 7 měsíci +2

      Most of it is sliced white tasteless with no food value at all. US needs better quality bread at prices affordable for everyone. Another problem is allowing white bread to be purchased with food stamp cards. Cant buy it with WIC why is this allowed with food stamps? Cut out all the junk food that is allowed to be purchased with food stamps.

    I find that artisan (i.e., real) bread doesn't get moldy after a few days. They just get as hard as a rock, but since they don't get moldy, I find that I can keep them longer as long as they stay moisture free. Hard bread is also suitable for dipping in soups or making French toast with, so nothing goes to waste.

    Population, Population density and people wanting to go into the Bakery trade necessitated mass production of bread in the US. There are 8700 independent bakeries in the United States compared to the 30,000 in France and over 10,000 in Germany alone. European countries have higher population densities making it easier for you to be within walking distance of a bakery.

    Fresh baked is great but really when you are just using it how most Americans use it slice bread isn't that bad. Especially since most of us don't eat bread as much the whole loaf would spoil before eating all of it. And honestly it doesn't make much sense unless you get it freshly baked as after sitting for a while the bread becomes stale and unpleasant. Most European countries eat enough bread that it probably rarely leave old bread ( an hour at most after baking) so in fact it actually saved the bread industry and there are artisan breads that do sell and sell more than people think. The main thing is that Americans eat less bread than European people. Then again you miss out on the fact that a person can buy a bread and have it last a couple of days before it gets mold. That means for the poor people they can eat bread cheaper

    New Orleans has very good bread but they do not know it. They think that their bread is just bread. They think that everyone has bread like theirs, not special. The bread is the secret ingredient for the Po'boy sandwich, why it cannot be replicated in any other city. French bread or Italian, no where else.

      When I was a child in Jacksonville Florida the Lone Ranger on radio was sponsored by Merita Bread. It was the bread for my PB&J and my Bologna (pronounced baloney) Sandwiches. I did not have anything to compare it to. How was I to know? How was I to know that one is supposed to break bread, not slice it, much less buy it already sliced. Yes, I participated in ruining bread for America but I was just an innocent child who could not have been expected to know better.

    American store bought bread 🍞 is used for sandwiches 🥪 but we don’t usually just eat it by itself like they do in Europe and most other parts of the world. If we eat bread by itself we usually at least put butter 🧈 or jelly on it. That’s the difference.

    I think you're forgetting a huge issue with bread made European-style: they have a *VERY* short shelf life. That could potentially mean a lot of bread wasted because you have to buy new loaves of bread every 3-5 days. That explains why in places like France, customers have to buy bread every 2-3 days at minimum.

    • @hansreynders6853
      @hansreynders6853 Před 7 měsíci

      Not necessarily. Although fresh baked, consumed within 2 days is best, you can buy more and store some in the freezer. That extends shelf life considerably.
