Hey Jeremy, fan from China here. Actually you are very lucky having such a mother. Many Chinese traditional mothers living in China (not USA and other countries) tend to be authoritarian and will never allow children to talk back against their parents. Your mother allows you have equal rights to be yourself since you were little. That's a blessing. BTW, no chance to watch your game or see you in real life, but one comment you are highly likely to read is pretty cool. All the best Jeremy

任何一個正常人都不會去嘲諷"在困境中掙扎著努力向上"的人。。。
大多數的人都會分享自己成功的經驗，很少有人願意分享自己的挫折，尤其是"成功人士"，所以造成了"羅馬似乎一天就可以造成"的假象:殊不知，大多數成功的人背後卻有著種種不為人知的辛酸與血淚。。。
書豪的分享經歷應該鼓舞了很多人，失敗並不可怕，只要努力還是可以看到春天的。。。
林爸林是值得尊敬的家長，亞裔父母要拿出所有的積蓄供孩子"讀書"上好學校不稀奇，但要拿出所有積蓄讓一個亞裔孩子去追求那似乎遙不可及的NBA夢想，就需要很大的勇氣和對孩子愛和信任。。。
謝謝林爸林媽教育出這麼優秀又充滿愛心的書豪，讓從來不追星的我一路從紐約追到現在。。。不管何時，只要書豪不放棄我亦相隨。。。
Jeremy, when you were in Reno, my wife and I were visiting our family in SF. We drove to Reno to watch you play. After the game, there were tons of Taiwanese fans waiting and we waited in the back. We figured out we were standing next to your mom so of course my wife started to talk to her. She was wonderful and open. You are very lucky to have your relationship with her. And you were nice enough to shake my hand and take a snapshot. Good luck with the rest of your career.

Our life is just a 100% copy of your childhood, both you and mom.
My boy daniel 13 yrs, is dreaming the career of NBA and working very hard for it.
There’s so a lot of struggles between church and courts.

Thank you Jeremy for being an inspiration to me since 2012, cheering me up in my lowest of low, specially in the Linsanity days. This episode with your mom made me miss my mom. I am also a middle child & had a hard time with my Dad. But my Mom was always be by my side. I also had that reasoning midset that you discussed with your mom when I was a child & I can relate on what you were discussing with all the fights with parents.... My Mom died 2 yrs ago because of complications of stroke then my Dad too later that year because of cancer. I was the closest to her in my family...Great to know your dynamics as Mom and Child plus it became better later on in your life. I am very proud of you Jeremy and I am forever a fan. Seems like you're more gracious to your mum than she is to you, though she is gracious too. The tough thing about these dynamics is that usually one party is more gracious than the other due to better knowledge/insight/understanding (that leads to compassion). So the more gracious party is really challenged in humility and forebearance... love your channel by the way. Keep using your voice! It's very encouraging and edifying!

I still remember during the beginning of Linsanity, I’d see your mom covering her mouth in total joy in the audience the moment you broke through. It was such a wholesome moment. Hey Jeremy, of all the years I’ve been watching you play and do interviews, this is truly my favorite. This podcast helps me really understand your background. I always thought you came from a privileged and above middle class family. With that misunderstanding, when I saw you cry on stage about the NBA not wanting you, my first reaction was you’re spoiled and not understanding how the average American or Taiwanese live. I didn’t know your mom had to pull out money from her 401k to help you chase your dreams. Lots of respect to you and your Mom. Praise the Lord, for your willingness to share your weaknesses.

Coincidentally, I recently had a falling out with my mom. It was over exactly the same thing, in terms of her stepping over my boundaries. It was less about the house rules I set but more about respecting me as an adult (I am turning 30).
We haven't gotten over the terrible things we've said to each other and are still learning to respect each other but I am glad you shared this story so I know there are others that have experienced the same.

What I find most endearing, compelling, & amazing about Jeremy is his vulnerability and unpretentiousness. Many people who have reached the levels of success that Jeremy has fall out of touch with the insecurity or frailty of their childhood selves; they've buried that fragility under a lot of money, wine and pot....What I'd like to ask Jeremy is whether he sees some of his choices and behaviors as a young NBA player as naive. I remember suspecting that many articles about "no D" D'Antoni in the NY Post did not quite represent authentic 'takes' by savvy journalists but were instead paid-for plants, because potential D'Antoni success threatened some very large incomes. (Within a few years the same NBA scribes, for the same reason, were lambasting the triangle and trashing Phil Jackson.) Did Jeremy then think NBA players/agents/hangers-on were all about team and winning? Second, I've wanted to know whether Jeremy & his agent recognized early on the extent to which team/coach/system would affect his level of success. Jeremy thrived in D'Antoni's system. Why didn't at least his agent, who presumably had some experience and should have known better, think he'd do well in Houston or LA? If I remember correctly, for awhile he had Byron Scott as a coach. Of course that was doomed to fail; Scott is a macho, anti-intellectual egomaniacal arse who was not particularly good at his job or overly dedicated to it. Finally Jeremy was in the right system with the Nets--but then the haircuts became a thing. It seemed like the haircuts might have become conversation topics for the wrong reasons in socially-conservtive NBA circles. Was that a concern for Jeremy and was anyone around Jeremy then advising him to desist? Finally, there was the thing of leaving Atlanta, where his contributions were awesome, for a system that again did not suit his talents in Toronto. I didn't get that. When the buyout happened in Atlanta, was Jeremy no longer wanted there for future seasons and was there no other NBA interest? I'd think that after this experience Jeremy could become a great agent because he knows where the potholes are.
