- Big mahalo to Herb Ohta Jr. for stopping by and sharing his gift. Learn more about Herb here- www.herbohtajr.com/index.php

We have done many sound samples with Kamakas but almost always with the high G tuning. Herb stopped by and we decided to sample these classic models with Low G tuning. You can try the low G tuning on your uke by switching out the G string with a low G string made to be tuned one octave lower. The chords and scales will all be the same but you get a deeper, lower sound. The low G string we used is the smoothwound Gold Alloy string which is an available option here - theukulelesite.com/accessorie... - Hudba
You are awesome, you continue keeping this wonderful instrument alive you picked up right where your father left off. You have the same passion and many people around the world continue to listen and enjoy your music, mahalo.
Dear Mr. Ohta, I bow to you and your virtuoso ukulele playing.
I am now 61 years old and due to various medical reasons unfortunately I can no longer pursue my passion and can no longer play a brass instrument.
Now I am planning to buy a ukulele to learn this wonderful instrument. I came across this demonstration video of yours by chance.
Aloha
It's always a pleasure to hear Herb Ohta Jr. play! Thanks to you all at HMS for the 'ukulele community! I've learnt a lot from the podcast, so big mahalo!
2:49 - Only dud note Herb has ever played captured on camera. LOL. Nice to hear that Kamaka still is cranking out that industry standard sound and Herb is making them sound even better than that.
Wow, Mr. Ohta surely is a master of his craft!
Thank you so much for sharing your beautiful vibes brother and thank you Kamaka!
As a low G player I really appreciate this. Such wonderful playing!! One day I might be able to get myself one of these Kamakas, or a Kanilea - for now my solid mahogany Kala will do nicely!!
Such beautiful playing by Herb, and oh yes, the ukulele are beautiful as well.
What a perfect way to end a day. Thank you for this!
same. studying while listening to this beautiful music! Wish I had one of these instruments

Awesome 👏 👏👏
Ah, to be able to play half that well... :-)
🥰
If i would change from high G to low G strings would that affect the string height, would i have to adapt the bridge and nut groove?
I have a standard Kamaka HF3 Ukulele
I‘d appreciate an answer. Thanks for the nice music. Greetings from Switzerland
very beautiful.
Is an injured thumb plactrum?
It's just a thumb pick I've tried using one but can't get on with it - it gives a louder, more ringing tone to the string - some Banjo players use them on all fingers.
Ohta jr is the only ukulele player I’ve ever seen use one of those. They are pretty common in guitar playing though.
What is the name of the first song he plays? Its so awesome!
searching for the same song rn, its not very helpful BUT heres another version with lyrics (czcams.com/video/NSJ4hWWel6I/video.html ) at 16:40

@@HawaiiMusicSupplyTUS Thank you!
@@danielwombacher2270 It is an appropriate selection by Herb, Jr. to play as this instrument model was designed by Kamaka for (and named after) his father who had a hit with this song in 1974. czcams.com/video/X-J9Pc7lvd4/video.html
