    Good video man, I have an Is250 with 80k on it, super clean, I just picked it up a couple weeks ago and so far it's been the best car I've ever owned by far just because of how luxurious it feels, I've had much faster cars but I don't care about that now much. It's really fun to drive and comfortable too, plus the heated and cooled seats keeps the wife happy lol

    I bought my IS250 last year after my Acura TL got totaled. Not as fast but it does get sideways and its enough power. Great daily car absolutely, very featured packed and for a car from 09 it has really nice ammenties like backup cam, dual climate, push start, heated AND cooled seats. If you need awd it has a reliable AWD drivetrain (although it has a bump where the leg rest goes it gets uncomfortable so id go for the RWD if you can). RWD does fine in snow too if you have the proper tires for it, although I had pirellis on mine and it wasn't terrible (wouldnt take it on the highway though). The IS250 has a carbon buildup issue due to their fuel injection designed (port only), you can run carbon cleaner through it for cheap and install and air/oil seperator kit for a couple hundred and you'll never have that issue. Unfortunately premium is killing me as a college student, and the insurance isn't much better than my last car. For 15k miles it has required very little maintenance besides the basics.

    I'm glad you made this video, because other videos that I looked at, they said that the IS 250 has alot of issues, and they insist on recommending getting a GS350 , Es350,or IS350. I want to make the right decisions, because I do not want to end up with a endless money pit car. They say with an IS250 , the most common problems are: it does not have any room while sitting in the back seat, there is alot of carbon buildup, the panel of the dashboard tend to crack and its cheaply made. One guy that compared different lexuses to other said stay away from the IS 250 totally. How often does this car has carbon build-up?

    • @NavsGarage
      @NavsGarage  Před 2 lety +2

      Yah the 250 for the price is a great car. Yes the dash cracks and yes it’s tighter. The carbon build up isn’t a huge issue but it exists. My car only has 65k on it so it hasn’t had that issue. But you can clean the throttle body and also the manifold of the build up.

My wife had the 2011 IS 250 years ago. But it was total crap for performance. Might as well grab a 350 because the mpg is not much better. I also had a 2014 f30 335i. What an amazing car it was but had it not been for dealership maintenance and warranty, it would rape my pocket. Unreliable much. I'll be totally honest with you as a petrolhead and engine builder hobbyist...the whole carbon buildup thing is a line used by service agents who don't really know how a motor works. And a money spinner. Yes carbon does build up in throttle bodies and exhausts , its NORMAL. In fact carbon buildup on pistons is a Lil bit of free power as it increases the compression ratio slightly.
    Do not ever spray those throttle body cleaners directly into a motor. All that gunk gets sucked in the and ends up in the piston bore and rings and screws with the octane enough to burn out lambda sensors. Leave the tb as is, Just clean out the sensors on the throttle body (remove them) , same goes for sparkplugs. Your motor will thank you in the long run.

If the statistics on Google and other car websites don't indicate anything, working on BMWs aren't fun to begin with. Vanos systems and other highly complicated parts are prone to break, not to mention BMWs factory oil interval us ridiculously high, leaving many of these cars prone faster wear, oil burn and leaks which they are famous for across the globe. Don't get me wrong, they are most probably going to drive better and be a much more enjoyable drive, but when it comes to maintaince and reliability, they don't compare.
