747SP an ugly plane? Nah, beautiful actually. When people keep saying a beautiful plane looks ugly I have to question if they're looking through a beer bottle or something. Nice video :)
cool. brings back memories of riding for 2 hours in the cockpit on a transatlantic in an L-1011, it was awesome. elevator down to the galley was neat too.
I had the pleasure of several trips on SAA B747SP in the 80's,Lisbon joburg and joburg lisbon with a stop in windhoek(Namibia).Return fligths to europe had a stop in namibia or cape verde islands due to the joburg runway.the runway is above 6000 feet and the aircraft had payload restritions because of this high altitude takeoff.
3:50 , that Ysterplaat int. Every year SAF "South-African air force" hold a airshow and shows of their Griffen and the Silver falcons! I flew with the Cape-Town flying-club in a Piper-140 some time ago, and what magical flight it was! Maybe you can film our new 777's one day... Regards from SA!
I Think SAA bought these back when they were denied passage through many countries' airspace and needed a plane with enough range to go through the available airspace.
not true, depens on companies with their SOP, pilots are forced to put AP at 500 AGL after take off for example, bear in mind that if their TR on A320, 737 ... they are able to fly it in any circonstance :)
Thanks for the great video about my country's airways...
Nice vid ! Great bird ! Beautiful approach.
Awesome video, classic 747SP action. Great view though approaching Cape Town!

How long is this dvd?
those were the days were the cockpit door was open during the flight, and you could go up and visit.
de que año es este vídeo ?
It stands for 'Special Performance'.

The SP cruses really high. 43,000 ft is bizjet territory

Also extra altitude
@bloodyduckers9 SP = Special Performance
B747 SP (Special Performance)
Is the 747SP the first version of the 747? cuz it looks really scary /:
yapp thats great, and very very long ago ;( I guess some planes must be safer with a flight engineer. Im sure ... ...
agree with the first half, the rest is easily put, ignorance is bliss
Why do airlines need 747SPs, why not just go with A330s or B777s?
Love these older videos. Cockpit door open and lots of hand flying. Today's pilots only know how to fly under 500' and push buttons.
Do you really believe that?
she is short and fat.... but still beautiful and powerful the same big 747 engines with a lighter weight
