Helicopters can be very dangerous places particularly when you are attempting to fly in convoy with armed support helicopters under cover of fog and someone decides to specifically target yours

1. Boeing never built any helicopters for Iran.
2. It's an older helicopter made, by Bell, a company who has no relationship to Boeing
3. The aircraft is about 40 to 50 years old. It's an older design.
4. Sanctions. Iran has been forced to build their own helicopters or fix their own in house with locally made, or smuggled parts due to sanctions
5. Pilot error. remember when Kobe Bryant was killed? Similar conditions. Low visibility while flying low to the ground, in higher altitudes, and mountains, that's a perfect recipe for disaster.

I heard John Holton who was first with information on this early yesterday.. He is a wartime journalist for CBN. He (also pilot) said with as foggy as it was and the dangerous terrain they were over, it did not look good.
The helicopter was not powerful enough to fly at high altitude in foggy condition. It had no radar for instrument flying.

This doesn’t make a lot of sense, Aircraft’s here in the USA are equipped with terrain advisory. On display is the terrain. Yellow areas mean you are less than 500 ft and red areas mean you are 100 ft or less near the surface. With this system you can fly through a valley with high mountains on both sides even in fog. To me it’s looking like there was another cause to this accident and calling it a hard landing is a joke. It crashed. Could be mechanical or something external to the aircraft that caused it to go down.

They were riding in a helicopter that hadn't been serviced since the 70's or 80's because Boeing refused to work on them due to the conditions they were in. That's like someone holding onto an old car they're proud of and then wrecking it and the airbags didn't pop out or riding on bald tires in the rain and hitting the brakes hard.
