Hi @Xris, thank you for taking the time to create this video about our Lunar.
First of all, We apologize for any confusion we caused the last time we were commenting. In regards to your question at 2.11, as Tony mention in their comment, we recommend using the rubber heat pad that comes packed with the scale. The heat pad can be flipped up to level the portafilter so it does not spill any grounds (and for some users, not having the experience of metal on metal). You can tell the difference as the 'lip' of the pad will face up.
The Pearl Model S, along with our other scales, all have their main focuses on what they are best suited to within a commercial or home environment. The Pearl series are all directed towards pour-over brewing and portafilter use (we also recommend using a heat-resistant pad with all in this series). The Lunar is built with the intention of espresso machine brewing (based on its tailored modes) but can also be used for pour-over manual brewing in the dual-display mode. Different materials have different desirable properties and also set products apart from each other visually.
We are also happy to discuss this more with you!

Great review. I would be surprised if they updated the lunar since the just released it in white a few months back. Also if you didn't know you can remove modes on your scale. If you find yourself using 2 modes you can take the rest of so you don't have to cycle through that made it a lot better for me.

To put the debate to rest, I spoke w/ Andrew Meo (recently retired) who was the owner/chief operator of Rocket and he said absolutely start your timer once you lift the lever and actuate the pump. There you have it. And it’s a major upgrade from the Appartamento to the Mozzafiato! Start saving since the Mozzafiato had a recent price increase.

Good review, I have the pearl and just treated myself to the ECM Synchronica for Christmas. I started with espresso four years ago with a Gaggia classic pro and I bought a ECM grinder as I knew I would eventually get a higher end espresso machine once I had learned the ropes. I think the new lunar will work well because I like their products as well as the slim low profile. It will sit nicely on my drip tray. Thanks for the good review.. What do you think about the Mahlkonig E 65 GWB grinder? Expensive but I like the grind by weight and faster prep time, plus I think it will outlive me.

Good honest review and absolutely it is way overpriced BUT like you found, if it is a daily use item that brings simplicity to your routine and removes some niggles from your workflow then it is worth paying the price. I can't help but think other manufacturers will have reverse engineered it and we will soon see some less than half price knockoffs that will have 90% of the functionality though. You can disable the modes you don’t use making the scale easier to use. It’s just done manually on the scale instead of the app. Acaia has a write up instructions. Also highly recommend using the rubber mat with them, gets rid of the metal to metal contact, adds grip to the cup.

I'm looking for a scale now and this one looks to be the defacto standard. Wish it also had better build quality / design. All of the closeups show coffee grounds getting trapped between the display and the scale body itself. Functionally it seems to work and is well though out so they charge what they can. This is one of those cases where a competitor needs to step in with a better offering.

Though one thing to add, the scale is robust as hell from my experience. It has fallen from a distance of 5ft many, many times onto a tiled floor and it has surprisingly survived and kept chugging along. It has hella dents and scratches from being used in the shop so it's not as clean looking any more.
Also, totally nitpicking here but, when are they going to make the switch to USB Type C? And could they add a rubber cover to the USB port just for added security when constantly using it in the shop?

But it is the only scale that comes with the features in the smaller form factor. The Lunar should cost around 50 dollars for what it does. In a commercial setting I have NEVER seen anyone use the app, so that whole point is bunk. Maybe for the setup initially, but the app is for home users.
