G&H Split Rear Loader: City of Naples

- Naples used to run two of these split bodies on Mack LEs for the recycling. Residents would set out one stream that was sorted into paper and comingled containers at the curb. Recycling is now completely single stream and automated. The split RL works much better than the Top Select usually used in this situation. The Formula 5000 in the first clip does trash along with some satellite trucks, just like in the EZ Pack Goliath vid I posted earlier. Thanks to the crew, filmed May 2010.
Wow man you caught a peace of Naples history. As of now, all of the LE Mack’s are gone and they only have one mack mr ez pack left
Glad you posted this video! Dual stream will be gone everywhere soon - great job documenting this!
I live in Houston and they use to use Freightliner condors with that split design for the recycling and unfortunately the recycling program completely changed and now they have been replaced with autocar acx McNeilus and heil side loaders
Thanks, I really like these too, it's a shame they're gone now.
The second truck in the first clip does trash with a bunch of satellite trucks, like in the other Naples vid I posted. I'm going to have to go see what does recycle now but trash is the same. The tippers are really slow and don't dump far into the hoppers so semi-auto could have been more entertaining.
Now this is something you almost never see... I guess being both kerb sorted recycling and split RLs these days. Cool to see both those packers in action instead of the usual full size blade. The co-mingle side packer is so small, but I bet it still packs a punch of power. Quick cycle times and also saw you couldn't run them simultaneously. No shock you say recycle has gone mixed and auto in Naples. Must be a lot harder for the tailgate cylinders to lift from up the top there, but I guess you've got two per tailgate.
MitchellM15 The smaller side packs quite a bit of power, the same force of the two cylinders applied to the trash with a much smaller blade. Kann builds a single stream version of these, great packer geometry and similarly quick cycle times make for a truck I'd really like to catch in action.
Here in N.Y.C THEY HAVE THE SPLITS,INSTEAD OF BASKETS,WE PUT RECYCLEABLES,in blue bags and paper in clear plastic bags, and corrugated tied up
Good job 👍 you fellows this was a great job you both did smile
Commercial recycling is done privately, there were carts at city owned facilities and apartments.
Hi, a bit late to watch this (3years to late) we used split loaders here in England back in early 2000, we had a cage up front for cans, on the 40split paper and on the 70split refuse, both sides packed at the same time or independent. We had two types one was push button every time the hoppers needed cycling, and the other was constant pack or auto cycle, we had a driver and 3 loaders, but we was doing upto 3000 property's per day plus retail, we would tip upto 5 times on domestic refuse around 7tone per load and up to 3 loads of paper plus cans at around 3-5 tone a time, we would run al day from 6.30am until finish, if the trucks would last us without something going wrong....
Great job George! this Mack sounds exactly like the ones up here at AAA and American Disposal
Thanks! Just forgot, it was on another hard drive.
This is cool this garbage truck and carry trash and recycling at the same time
