I didnt understand anything in this video but the fact that Aziraphale just tried to teach me APR and I was too obsessed with his hair to pay attention
Still couldn't explain it. Guess I'll just have to watch it again. And again and...
“Professor Aziraphale? Who’s that guy with the sunglasses and black jacket who keeps making eyes at you?”
"Uhm... That is the botany professor, Ms. Ballantine, who should not be here, because his next class starts in.." Aziraphale pauses and looks at his watch and stares dead at Crowley who has also glanced at his phone's clock, "ten minutes. And it takes five to get there, so he should best be off."
@@aziraphale5752 *I lean over to my seat mate* "Did he just start working here? I don't think I've seen him around before."
"I'm surprised they let him in. Didn't think they'd hire someone in a leather jacket."
"Just because he doesn't dress like a professor doesn't mean he's a bad one. But that also doesn't explain what he's doing in here making google eyes at-" *I'm cut off by a crumpled paper hitting me in the back of the head, professor Crowley is whistling nonchalantly*
If all my lessons in school were taught by Michael Sheen I’d be a genius by now
"Aziraphale used it [his cheap, slow, plasticky computer] religiously for doing his accounts, which were so scrupulously accurate that the tax authorities had inspected him five times in the deep belief that he was getting away with murder somewhere." - Good Omens by Terry Prachet & Neil Gaiman
This is true and mildly infuriating it happened five times. Why can't they just assume I'm a good, smart person who uses knowledge for taxes.
@@aziraphale5752 Because they like to think everyone is either stupid, criminal, or both. Ironically (or unironically), this could very well be seen as a proper case of psychological projection, and *they* are the stupid, criminal ones.
And they don't want anyone being smarter than they are.
Think about that one. 😉😁
This is honestly why I like doing my taxes online, especially concerning that my wages are nowhere near corporate level. Even at my highest earnings ($12K/yr working for a casino), I've never been audited. Also it's because I don't have to itemize deductions. That definitely helps. 😜
I am deeply disturbed by the sight of Aziraphale wearing different clothes
I can't put my finger on why I'm struggling here. I saw David Tennant make a TV appearance with Crowley's hair, and I was able to process it just fine: David Tennant, just with red hair. I see this, and I can hear that the inflection is Michael Sheen, yet I can't NOT see Aziraphale. That's Aziraphale, telling me about APRs. Thank you, Aziraphale. I feel very informed.
XDDD same im just like, "Oh wow aziraphale from good omens? The angel who gards the east of the garden of eden? Apr? DOnt know what that is but interesting. Thanks"
When he's not running his lovely bookshop, Aziraphale Z Fell enjoys teaching in a nearby college😆💗
@@aziraphale5752 sweet, kind, generous, beautiful and intelligent angel 😚😚😚😚
@@Stargirl-wi7hyThat or I can ask Crowly if he could do a quick miracle for me and help me fund the book shop, or I'll miracle the money. There's also the factor of my scaring off people by glaring at them or other things to keep my books.
*David Tennant with red hair* Me: oh, he dyed his hair, cool.
*Michael Sheen with blonde hair* Me: AZIRAPHALE!?!??
Some others might say, when seeing David with red hair: YEEEEES, HE'S FINALLY GINGER!
i don’t even know what an APR is but as long as aziraphale’s explaining it i’ll pretend to understand
APR stands for Annual Payment Rate. Every bank charges for mortages, loans, overdrafts etc at their APR, which for Nationwide is a ruinous 39.9%. If you borrowed £75 from Nationwide for 7 days, you would pay back £104.92.
@@bonariablackie4047 There is something wrong with your maths. At an APR of 39.9 %, you'd pay back 75.57. 104.92 after seven days would mean an APR of 2080 %. According to the calculation shown in the video.
@@bonariablackie4047 APR, in the UK stands for Annual Percentage Rate, not Payment rate. The overdraft rate you are using is for unauthorised use, authorised overdrafts are only 1 to 2 % at the moment.
He went *blonde*
RiverStone1268
DAVID WHAT HAS HAPPENED TO YOUR HAIR? WHAT HAS HAPPENED TO MY HAIR? I WENT BLONDE!!!
I think I finally got it.
£79.2 / £75 = 1.056
Weekly percentage rate = 0.056 (5.6%)
Annual Percentage Rate formula:
APR = (1 + 0.056)^(365/7) - 1
APR = 16.1358 ≅ 16.14 = 1614%
Thanks, professor Fell :)
@@erichardzz yes, it's the "annually percentage rate". So if you borrowed £100 and the APR was 5%, then you'd owe £105 after a year (assuming you didn't pay anything back in the meantime, for simplicity).
Is the weekly interest rate applied to the outstanding amount each week i.e. if you don't pay off week 1 it's 5.6% of £79.2 and so on?
Can he be my teacher, I still won’t absorb anything
damn if Michael Sheen were my tutor I might have actually learned something
Everyone: Wow what a good teacher
Me: *sees 4.20* nice
As a french person, i understand nothing, but Micheal explain it, so it's ok
This is the best way to learn math, Michael can you please be my math teacher cuz I'd pay attention
Deadass thought someone edited Aziraphale’s head in lmaooo 😂😂
(But in case this was edited, this is so well-done, your masking is absolutely seamless!😂)
This awakened the student in me:
nodding and pretending to understand
my dyscalculaic arse says "thank you, Aziraphale."
If he were my teacher I still wouldn't learn because I'd still be staring at him. Just gazing at his sweet sexiness all the time.
HE IS TAKEN. YOU CAN NOT BREAK APART THEIR 6000 YEAR RELATIONSHIP
I love to see Aziraphale in modern clothing and I know Crowley does too😇💟😈
He does, but he doesn't know about my having posted this. ; ) Could you keep it a secret for me?

@@ironvlogger9712 I most certainly will, he looks so cute when he's red-faced
This is so fabulous on so many levels. Mr Sheen explains this oft misunderstood principle so that it’s not only lucent, he created a contest for the content. The content being APR. Bravo Mr. Sheen!!! A true Renaissance Man you are.
Okay but why does he actually makes sense?
I’m a marketing major and this is kind of what I’m studying ✨
I think it's because he illustrates the concept in a friendly, humorous way, rather than sounding dry and boring. Hell, he would have made my 7th grade World History class more enjoyable because he actually puts inflections in his voice, rather than speaking in a monotone like my actual World History teacher.
Also, had I had such a teacher as Michael Sheen for World History, I definitely would have been able to pay more attention...and likely been crushing majorly. British accents are defo a thing with me. 😅
"why does he actually make sense?" Well, why not? Who shouldn't make sense?
Came for a Martin Sheen clip, learned about loan sharks without even knowing - BRAVO to the writers, and obviously to the Sheen.
can anyone tell me how he got to 1614% ?
Pedro Diogo I asked my economics teacher as well, and we just couldn’t figure it out, we got either 5000 something or 1000 something (tried two different interest calculations)
So I think they miscalculated something
lookup sil soundbite's comment but basically:
79.20/75 = 1.056
So the weekly rate is 5.6% increase
Annual rate is (1.056)^(365/7) - 1
aka you have to add 5.6% of the total onto the bill every week.
The minus 1 accounts for the 1.056 instead of 0.056.
Kind of surprise to see Mr Sheen explaining about things like apr.
£4.20 for a pint!?!? I'm not going in that pub!
All of us wishing he was our school teacher....
I am dumb as fuck at maths but as soon as I saw this video I pretended I understood APR just because It's Aziraphale explaining.
Can we get like....a series of him explaining things
Idk what that was, but like I love you aziraphale
I didnt understand a dang thing, i love this angel so much i cant focus.

I really do think I might actually have almost understood that... Thank you Aziraphale.. ❤️
That's fantastic. He's a bit of a legend as well
Can someone explain what Michael Sheen did, I have no idea what APR is...
Aziraphale?
Wow, this is an argument from what seems to be a very nice guy about how exorbitant interest rates in predatory short term lending aren't a bad thing. Sure, there are fixed costs to be considered, but in reality these types of loans aren't made a single time. Instead they occur over and over again and the financial institutions lending the money DO have large sums constantly loaned out at these rates. The default rates are higher than on most longer term loans, but not sufficient to justify the insanity.
and what is AER ? in loans, and compared with APR ?
Apr is your annual percentage rate which effectively means if you pay off your loan in a year you will pay x amount in interest, now as most loans are not over 1 year as you will tend to find you will get payday loans over 3 months, 5 year bank loans or 25-40 year mortgages are the most common form of loans in the uk, it is much more simple to 1. Get put on a fixed rate, 2. Ask before you take out the loan how much you will pay back in interest over the term of the loan and 3. Read the terms and conditions as if you get hit with additional fees or miss payments, you watch that interest sky rocket!
Mr.Sheen just demonstrated just how much of a ripoff things like payday loans are.How they can,and do,make peoples' financial shortfalls even worse than they already are. He's trying to educate. To help people. He's adorable, yes, but he's a very serious activist as well. This was an activist moment.
HAIR
@@pianopanicattack I'm an acting comilion! Ffs 😂 love how both of their accents come out the louder they shout in this
That would be a payday loan here in America.
Exactly.Michael Sheen, however cuddly and adorable he is as Aziraphale,is in real life a fighter for change. He sees people struggling with things like payday loans. He sees NHS not fully stepping up to the plate. He sees government not stepping up for little people, ordinary people, and it pisses him off.He wants to do something about it.So he's using his celebrity as a tool for activism.
When Lyra grows up, she'll never have problems with maths and will never experience the struggle with 'doing maths with dada'

"How does he make his voice change so Aziraphale sound so adorable??"
"Why do I get Crowley with the projector screen vibes, did they body swap again?"
"Is this what Aziraphale would wear as a demon?"
"Still trying to process this guy was Aro in Twilight"
came for Apr. I have to search what pint and pounds is...
Teacher Aziraphale ❤
LOL THIS WAS NEEDED
As a french person, i didn't understood anything, but it's Micheal or Aziraphale, it's fine.
This is the absolute minimum everyone should know about finance by heart already at the age of 6.
Wowsers!
Is this Simon Pegg?
I uh. I didn’t read the title, so I was waiting for a punchline.
Anyone else just kinda going, "Damn, beer is really cheap in Britain"? Keep in mind that UK pints are larger than American ones.
Pippin (U.S., chugging a small pint of ale): "What's that?"
Merry (UK, carrying a huge, delicious, Brit-size, ale): "This, my friend, is a pint!"
Pippin (U.S., realizing just how gypped he's been): "It comes in pints? I'm getting one!"
Yes, I know, I inserted a LOTR reference amongst the comments surrounding Aziraphale, but...I admit I couldn't resist. 😅
Aziraphale trying to act like Crowley by wearing dark clothes!!
The debt was as much of an unrepayable moral one as anything else; the interest on the loan wasn't a sum, but what was returned to him in witnessing his justified trust.
I read that APR meant you only paid interest in April.
Isn't this APY(otherwise known as EAR) rather than APR ?
Thank you Aziraphale!! ILY
I watched his multiple times and yet I still dont understand a word he said but hey he's very pretty 😍
So… the reason why the APR is so high is that it extends the scenario - pay back original and a pint of beer in a weeks time - and extends it to a year.
Which would be like paying the original… and god knows how many pints of beer
a beer a week. Which is 52 beers. At £4.20 a beer that adds up to £218.40. Add that to the original £75 and you gotta pay back £293.4. Or those 75 and a small keg.
I can't see Michael here, when his hair is blond he turns Zira.
I still dont really understand what apr is
We want to see aziraphale dressed like this in good omens 3

What. Wha. I-I... I don't understand. I've never seen Michael with blonde hair _except_ when he's Azi. What is this. I'm so confused. My system isn't recognizing this. What.
Ok but why is it 1614%?
