Really enjoyed your reactions and observations. It was 1973/74 when I first heard 7 Seas of Rhye and I was hooked, I was 27 and have been a lifelong Queenie ever since. I'm 76 now and am still in love with Freddie, thank goodness I married a man who was equally obsessed with Queen as I was, and we managed to get to 3 concerts and Live Aid together, magical times.

If you pay close attention you'll see something unexpected happen. When Freddie turns from the piano & looks at Brian, you only hear 1 note where you would expect him to do a little solo. Instead you see him unplug his guitar because something had gone wrong & he had to run backstage to the technician. Freddy almost instantly starts working the audience & Brian returns very quickly. You saw Freddie turning to watch him go & then turning to see that he's back. A complete professional.

Freddie was born to music: talent, soul, sense of rhythm, vocal range, eclectic taste and unparalleled perserverance. Freddie was a great storyteller, he was full of passion and emotions and his untrained vocals could deliver what he wanted to say.

Freddie didn't refer to himself as a "singer", he preferred to be called a performer. He felt it was his duty to entertain his audience. Roger was such a perfectionist that he would tune his drums before each concert to be sure they each gave him the exact sound that he wanted.

    • @HealthAtAnyCost

How can I try to right the wrong?

      With a fading dream"

    Freddie's voice is unmatched.
Did you know that even scientific study confirms Freddie Mercury had an unparalleled singing voice. That what makes his voice so special was extremely fast vibrato 7.04 Hz and subharmonics. He was able to create several more layers of harmonics than anyone else. Freddie was using a subharmonics by vibrating his ventricular folds, a technique usually found only in Tuvan throat singers. One of the conclusions from the studies was that "Mercury was vibrating something in his throat that even Pavarotti couldn't move and that kind of creates a very typical vocal fingerprint"
Fat bottomed girls live at Bowl 82
White queen live at the Odeon 75
and Freddie's solo Barcelona. He recorded the opera album with Spanish soprano Montserrat Caballe.
" Exercises in free love " it was his impersonation of Montserrat"s vocal style. His voice will blow your mind.

In my opinion...having watched a lot of their preparations before a concert, or tour, Freddie in particular was so hands on organizing the technical/lighting details in advance..have a look at the One Vision documentary...see Freddie on the desk...directing Brian on guitar...Roger on drums...their lighting for concerts was the most expensive in the world.......I think that Queen was Freddie’s theatre and the band members were the actors/players...Freddie is missed so much🤩

Freddie's very clear, crisp pronunciation is wonderful in his vocals. My silly opinion is that to overcome the very slight lisp he had (you can barely hear it), Freddie enunciates to perfection. And, gracious, what a voice that man has. Every emotion under the sun generates in his lyrical delivery. Also, as you asked, he was born Farrokh Bulsara in Zanzibar (now The Republic of Tanzania) off the coast of Africa, then he was sent to boarding school in India, then returned back to Zanzibar for a very brief time (1 yr maybe), then fled with family to England.

Freddie’s mouth was no different than anyone’s else. He had extra teeth but, that amazing voice came from his vocal cords and voice box. The experts say his voice Box rivals
    Caruso’s and
Pavarotti. Freddie thought his mouth was the reason for his amazing voice, it was the make up of his vocal cords and voice box that gave him his signature sound.

I was at this concert in Montreal 1981 - to say it was phenomenal is an understatement. Soooo much fun! Soooo much energy! I had always liked Queen - "White Queen" , from their early years was the song that cemented it for me in the early 70s. But THS CONCERT...OMG!! JUST TAKE YOUR PICK OF ANY SONG AND YOU WILL NOT BE DISAPPOINTED!! That band - always on point - 4 outstanding musicians - and Freddie singing his heart out while playing the piano. I also love all of their 80s work. This band is meant to be enjoyed LIVE so I recommend any of their songs from their Rock in Rio, 1985 (Rio de Janiero, Brazil) or Budapest, 1986 (Hungary) concerts. Especially listen to "I Want to Live Forever" from the Budapest concert, "Is This The World We Created" and "Love of My Life" from almost. any concert in 1985, but especially from Rock in Rio, 1985. They are mind-blowing experiences. I enjoy how you interact with each other. Thanks for a great reaction.

They rehearsed the transfer until they were sure it was smooth. Queen never left anything to chance during performances and always rehearsed their concerts. They always showed up to each of the venues during the day of the concert to conduct a run-thru and sound check so they knew what to do that night.
Queen was greater than the sum of the individual talent of its members. Each member of Queen was a strong individual with amazing musical talent plus each member of Queen was a composer. Queen is the only musical group in which each member has a song they composed in the musical hall of fame. They each had different musical tastes which explain why Queen's musical catalog includes hard rock, soft rock, rockabilly, progressive rock, arena rock, thrash rock, ballads, r&b, blues, disco, jazz, pop, soul, ragtime, opera, showtunes, and more.
Freddie was born in Zanzibar but was sent to a British-style boarding school outside of Bombay (Mumbai) to be educated when he was 8 years old. Yes, his family was Parsi which means they are ethnically Persians who practiced the religion Zarasterniasm. After completing his schooling, Freddie returned to live in Zanzibar but then his family had to leave and move to London to escape the Muslim rebellion in Zanzibar in 1964.
Freddie used to refer to himself as a Persian Popinjay. He was very proud of his Persian ancestry but he loved being British and adored the cosmopolitan atmosphere of London. (He was not that fond of either India or Zanzibar with his memories of both of them as rural and dirty.)
Freddie (whose birth name was Farrohk Bulsara) began studying the piano at age 7 and reached the 4th level in piano. He never had any vocal training other than singing in a choir in school. He was completely self-taught.
In 1987 Freddie recorded the album "Barcelona" with the Spanish Opera Soprano, Monserrat Caballe who he believed had the best voice in the world. It turned out that Monserrat was a big Queen and Freddie Mercury fan. She and Freddie became close friends and she did pass on some tricks and techniques which he gratefully took to heart. She admonished him for not singing in the baritone range since he was a natural baritone though he usually sang in the tenor range. He never realized that he was a baritone (he had a 4-octave range) even though his speaking voice was baritone. Freddie told her he was sorry but he couldn't sing in baritone since he felt his fans would not be able to recognize him if he did.
Freddie had an intriguing physical phenomenon called subharmonics that he used to drive his vocals to the limit. Subharmonic is a form of singing where the vocal folds vibrate along with a pair of tissue structures called ventricular folds. This form of singing is only used by Tuvan throat singers of Mongolia, except in a more extreme way. Freddie’s vocal cords vibrated at 7.04 Hz - higher than a typical vibrato range of 5.4 Hz to 6.0 Hz. To put it more scientifically, the famous opera singer Luciano Pavarotti produced a perfect sine wave for vibrato when he sang - a value of 1. Freddie, on the other hand, averaged a value of 0.57.
Freddie also suffered from a medical condition called mesiodens which meant that he actually had four additional incisors behind his normal ones. These extra teeth then caused his front teeth to be pushed forward because of overcrowding. Freddie's teeth were also larger than average and he also had a pretty noticeable overbite. He was always embarrassed by his teeth (he was called Bucky at school) but refused to have them fixed. He believed that to do so would affect his voice and range.

To Freddie Queen came first and it was not the same without the four of them. Yes he lived in Africa until he was 7 and then was sent off to an English boarding school. He hardly ever saw his family until he went home and there was a civil war in Zanzibar so they left and moved to England. His parents came from India. They were Parsi Zoroastrian

The video has such great imagery because it was filmed specifically for an early version of IMAX with high quality 35mm format film.
A note needs to be said about the band as a whole versus as individuals, including Freddie Mercury as a sole singer. Freddie, Brian, and Roger all had solo albums and none of them was a huge hit. The "boys" (as they often call/ed themselves) knew that together, they were greater than the sum of their parts. Even Freddie said that on numerous occasions.
Yes, Freddie is an amazing front man/performer, but he is also a singer, songwriter, pianist, guitarist, artist, and member of a fabulous band that worked beautifully together. Surely there were 1000 other parts to Freddie (and the others) we never learned about, too.
(Dr.) Brian is an incredible guitarist, astrophysicist, animal activist, pianist, singer, songwriter, and gentle-spirited being (except when he was fighting with Roger in the studio).
Roger, besides playing the most incredible drums, plays guitar flawlessly, plays the bass, writes beautiful songs that touch the heart and move the feet, as well as being the snarkiest, most sarcastic, deliciously cynical, dirty-minded man around.
John... bless dear John, the tender soul in Queen. His songs were filled with lightness and heart, his bass playing flawless, and he also played the piano, double bass, and drums and was a great songwriter. I am glad he has found peace without Queen and beg people to leave him be.
Queen's meeting and coming together as a band reminds me of the line in _Hamilton_ - "What are the odds the gods would put us all in one spot?" It was serendipity, for sure. And we are the lucky ones who get to listen for decades and decades!
(Sources for this post come from the massive amounts of interviews available and commentaries on several music videos and commentary on the _Live in Montreal_ video itself, all on CZcams. Yes, I am a Queenie to the core.)

    SUGGESTION....
You guys should do a reaction/comparison sometime, to the live version of...
    "Somebody To Love" at:
    MILTON KEYNES BOWL in 1982!
It is TOTALLY DIFFERENT than this... a fantastic example of how Freddie made EVERY performance a different experience for the audience.
(The Milton Keynes concert "flies under the radar" because Montreal was filmed in 35 mm, but the Milton Keynes rendition of this song is actually the version that Queen included in their official compilation of Best Live Performances... This Montreal performance is Letter Perfect, but Milton Keynes is like the Invitation-Only After-Party No-Holds-Barred rendition. EVERY reactor who's watched both, has said - as one worded it - "Montreal is the appetizer, but Milton Keynes is the MEAL.")
...And Freddie's vocals are even BETTER, if you can believe it!
