This is the newly-updated Audi S8, and Mat’s on a mission to see whether it has what it takes to compete with the BMW 7 Series and Mercedes S-Class!
For starters, let’s kick off with what you’ll find under the bonnet! The A8 range kicks off with a 3-litre V6, but this S8 offers a whole lot more. Right here you’ll find a 4-litre twin-turbo V8 that can put down 571hp and an eye-watering 800Nm of torque!
Even if it’s pretty heavy, this luxury behemoth can still reportedly hit 60mph in just 3.8 seconds! But then again, that’s the least you’d expect from a car that comes with a starting price that’s north of £100,000…
And of course, when it comes to the interior you know you’ll be treated to high-quality materials throughout. Sure, not too much has changed compared to the previous version, but that’s no bad thing! From the dashboard upfront through to the middle seat closing mechanism in the back (trust us on this one), this is one of the most luxurious interiors around.
The only question is, is it time for people to pick the S8 over the S-Class and 7 Series? You’ll have to stick with Mat to find out!

I think the previous A/S 8 still looks very nice. I appreciate that this facelift doesn’t make the pre facelift look old.
I’m just glad they switched the grill back to honeycomb instead of horizontal lined grill that just don’t give it that luxury sports sedan feel. Everything else from air vents to headlights looked good prefacelift
In total this design looks almost retro now, with all those fancy electric cars around.
The best looking A8 was the 2008 A8L V10

Maybe I am dumb and don't realize.... Look I LOVE all cars. And I've always been a hardcore Benz guy for many many years, but this S8 absolutely kicks the 7 series and s class in thier butts, I think the S8 is very great
i love BMWs but here the technology is simply unmatched. Interior seems more high tech but exterior-wise I think I still prefer the 7 series more..
I love the S8. It’s definitely the best looking of the three german luxury limousine’s. And that V8 sounds lovely.
I also like the chrome trim. Im usually not a fan but it fits perfectly on the S8.
Can carwow consider doing pop-up figures for the guys who prefer the metric system whenever fuel efficiency figures or distances are shown in miles or gallons. It would be great to see kilometers and litres for those of us who grew up using that system.

This isn’t a metric v imperial “hate” comment, but I do find the metric fuel efficiency measure somewhat strange. Distance that a given volume of fuel will deliver (e.g. miles per gallon) is much more intuitive and useful than how much volume of fuel will be used in a given distance (e.g. km per litre).
@@MKRM27 it's actually less intuitive, especially trying to figure out how much fuel you're using. The percentage difference in fuel usage between 18 and 19 mpg is far higher than between 34 and 35 mpg. So a 1 mpg increase can be a lot or a little. While l/100km gives you the exact amount of fuel you're using. Even fleets in the United States use gallons/100mi as a unit of fuel efficiency when calculating fuel usage for the EPA. It comes back to the question would you rather have 1 car that runs on 10 mpg and 3 cars that run on 35 mpg, or 4 cars that run on 20 mpg. If you convert to gal/100mi you would find out that less fuel is used with 4 cars running 20 mpg.

Just yesterday i saw one of those on the road. Now our roads are lightyears away from German roads and to watch this suspension work really hard was incredible. Idk if you can feel it inside the car, but for an outside observer it's striking AF. It was almost like i was watching the BOSE suspension video from 15 years ago. The wheels move up and down like crazy, but the body stays levels as a plank. Probably could drive with a full glass on the bonnet and it will never spill. Just incredible.
I love the S8, anyday compared to its competitors. I find it more practical and the under-the-radar feel...just more like it. Especially here in Kenya where I come from, these luxury cars take a beating due to our roads and all!

A8 definitely. 7 series is becoming too crazy designing. Not subtle anymore like the old 7 series. A8 has kept that conservative and conceptual design. Keep it up Audi!

I'm glad you asked, Matt. I like to start with the Swiss Ball Blitz, then roll into the Boa Constrictor. Once things have heated up, I pull out the TV Dinner and work my way into a Staircase Pogo before finishing with a Permanent Press. I can't pick one single ideal position though..

I prefer the first Audi A8. I think it just looked more luxurious. Now with the new headlights it’s just looks like a bigger A5 and so with the steering wheel. First it looked like a real flagship that had everything combined from all the cars, but now it’s just a more expensive looking A5.
The A8 used to look very classy, like a gentleman's car in a sense. Now with the grill and headlights, it sure looks like a toy now.

Well Matt, we have enough imperfect roads in Germany, but not in the area you tested the Audi. It’s due to the last centuries all the traffic ministers were from Bavaria, and guess which part of Germany has been preferred when it came to road upgrades… next time i recommend the area Hunsrück, Eifel, Westerwald. Also pretty good areas to test the shock absorbers of SUVs.

In UK many versions of different cars are not sold because of the right hand drive steering wheel. In terms of production it requires a different production line for right hand steering wheel. If UK will change and put left steering wheel like the majority of the world you will not have to bear the limitations.

Soft limiters are in place because of emissions testing during an inspection (such as mot in the UK). In some countries for example, it is required for cars to be tested at full throttle. Companies are circumventing that by installing soft limiters since the car only has to be at full throttle, revs aren't mentioned.

i would actually say the contrary you guys in the uk have always had the best vehicles and options compared to the usa. the usa doesnt get the a45 amg b5 rs4 b7 rs4 avant b8 rs4 avant bucket seat options in all those rs cars i just mentioned or ceramics in all the rs cars i just mentioned. You guys also got the ford cosworth rs from back in the day and fords an american company for god sakes we get skipped on all the cool stuff. forgot to mention e46 m3 csl as well and the list goes on and on lol.
The US has far better car options than the UK. It is not even close. You have more car brands available then the UK does.
There is the odd model that may not be available but that is just splitting hairs. V8 and V6 engines are not really widely available in the UK.
whenever i see a sick specced audi or model we never received its always owned by someone in the uk. i mean you guys once received the c6 rs6 avant and saloon that came with a gallardo v10 twin turbo and 420mm ceramic brakes. theres no way we get the better end of the deal over here.

I’ve never understood how mpg is relevant in the UK when we buy our fuel in litres. Litres per 100 km is a simpler measure.

The S8 would be for longer trips, traveling with friends and chauffeuring my mom around whenever she didn't feel like driving the Cadillac CT4-V blackwing (10 speed dual clutch automatic) I'd buy for her as her daily driver

A K BMW is getting hate because they literally _are_ changing the design. At least with the grille, the reason they’re getting made fun of is _because_ they changed it up for the worse. Not because they left it the same. If they’d left it no one would’ve cared
It's great, they are obviously trying us to get used to the EV designs, personally I gotta say I fell in love with the clean A6/A8 designs (especially the grills), but now you can choose between clean and aggressive, which is perfect isn't it?😄

I think in black it looks better than before.. there is nothing worse than chrome exterior on a car in my opinion. the chrome line at the back through the taillights is the worst design decision audi ever made
I personally like the pre face-lift design more cause I fell in love with it. But in my opinion the best looking audi is A/S/RS5 sportback, and that A8 front design surely includes some "5"s inspiration, as we can all see.😅 so nothing wrong with it, you still got the choice

why do you drive on the wrong side in UK?
Maybe it is due to market researches or it is not possible with the steering wheel on the right to add some of the needed hardware and they didn't want to spend extra budget to adapt it
Because of car producer registartion fees. Many car features have to be registered and tested to become road leagal in the UK. This is not cheap and if the car producer expects that certain configurations will not sell well, they spare the money for the extreme expensive registration.

Great review, sure it drives great, but in the long term they're not reliable.
How long is your long term? I had one that was four years old when I got it, and still have it six years on. No problems.
I drive A7 TDI for last 6 years and I had 1 brake problem that got fixed under warranty and just maintenance. So far very reliable. Nothing so far broke in 200,000 km
