  • In this video I replace a worn out clutch fan bearing on my 1998 Jeep Cherokee XJ. I use an Omix-Ada 17104.83 Water Pump Bearing I purchased from amazon. Here is my amazon affiliates link for the bearing I used: amzn.to/3M6Fkm5

Was there a whirring noise coming from the front before you did this repair?

Did the bearing make a slight squeal sound coming from the center of the radiator?
Only happens when the engine is HOT.

The serpentine belt on the XJ runs a lot of pulleys. It can be hard to pinpoint which bearing is the culprit without a mechanics stethoscope. It makes it a lot easier to pin point noises. If you’re hearing it around the center of the radiator, I would take a closer look at the water pump. The bearing I replaced in this video would be heard more on the passenger side.

On my daughter's 2000 XJ the bearing completely ate itself allowing me to pull the loose inner shaft out from the destroyed inner race. So now I have the hub attached to the inner shaft & the sleeve of the bearing is all that is left in the bracket. Short of a machine shop any thoughts on how to press out or remove the sleeve from the bracket, or tips on separating the hub from the shaft (though that will be the easier of the two issues.

If I’m picturing this correctly, you can still use a jaw puller like I used to pull the hub off the shaft. As for the outer race that’s still in the bracket, I would use a blind bearing puller. You may need to use heat or soak it in some penetrating fluid to help free it up. Another way is to carefully use an air chisel to split the race. It should come out pretty easily at that point just be very careful not to damage the bracket as you can do a lot of damage going this route. Hope this helps. Best of luck!

Acetylene torch for the bearing race would be your best bet. cut it out of the aluminum housing.

How's this bearing holding up? Ive read that they aren't the best quality but need to do this job myself.

It’s holding up pretty good. No issues yet and I was daily driving it for a while.

Would this bearing work on a 94 jeep cherokee sport?

Can you show how to replace the bearing in the fan clutch itself instead of the bracket.

Don't think that's a serviceable part. Just get a new clutch for a V8 ZJ and you'll get much better airflow and cooling.
