- We are way past due for a "bigger than us" fishing video! In this one, my pal Henry and I are on the banks of a relatively clear water river, and we find a fish that puts up an epic battle! There is nothing better than a safe catch and release of a fish as beautiful as this!

Wow! What a beauty. Alligator Gar are such old fish, to think that they have been around over 100 million years and you have the good fortune to catch a very big, very old specimen such as that.

Yeah, its sad that lots of ppl do that😔 they are so majestic, even eating them its not right but just plain killing its just cruel and evil. Just so happy to see these few good guys release them👍👍👍

This reminds me of bank fishing for Sturgeon under the John Day Dam up on the Columbia River. We had fiberglass braid wrapped 12' 2" Amazon rods with Olympic 350 reels. We used 75lb. test mono and three-way swivels leading on one end to an old railroad spike for weight (on lighter line so it could break away after hook-up) and on the business end there was a 6/0 circle hook baited with pickled herring wrapped in a piece of nylon stocking, all held on to the hook with a rubber band. Great fun and some great battles happened up there back in the '70's. I personally saw one over 7-foot landed on that rock piled cliff of a bank. We used to build rock walls down over the edge to sit behind to block the wind that blows constant up that gorge.

WOW! I definitely learned something about landing giants. The lasso is brilliant and I never would have thought of it. I just became infected with the Musky bug and have ordered a custom Musky stick and a 300 Series Daiwa lexa wnhs p 7:1:1 to pair it with. I'm so Grateful for you and your channel!

I was getting a little stress on my heart just watching and listening, and I had to tell myself that I wasn’t the one that hooked that Gar and was reeling it in, and that I had to relax.
I don’t think CZcams likes me too much, as somehow I became unsubscribed, and I just subscribed, again, for the second or third time.
In all my time fishing, I've never needed to bring a lasso.

What sucks the most is getting the hook out of a gars mouth. Very sweat producing job. Iv also had to pull a hook out of a snapping turtles mouth that was a tough job too 😂

Ty,I live by the Sabine And the Trinity is 25 minutes away,I know a couple of spots where I've caught some big Gar.i will try and land one ,if I can relocate them again you should come down and film
That first one looked like it had a tag in it..

Normally I use nylon coated wire, but with the circle hook it was just 150 lb mono. But I’d Use wire.
