    It would totally work for towing a bass boat to the lake, trips to Lowe's, motorcycle to the shop, moving someone locally,camping in the area. These are the type things I have used a truck to tow for. I personally have never towed anything long distance and have only used half ton pick ups. Everything about this truck would work for me, except the price.

    The ProPower Onboard will also be useful as a contractor. Power hedge trimmers and the like from the bed while charging tools/laptops etc locked away in the "frunk". Might be an interesting test at Tumbleweed - can use drive out, power tools to do work, and still have enough battery to get home.
    EVs will work if you can fully charge it at home, use it for the day within the battery range, bring it back and recharge it again overnight. If you don't have your own charger or go too far you have to cope with flaky public charging.

    Enjoying the content. I own an Ioniq 5 and a utility trailer. When towing, I'm most often local. (Dump runs, landscaping or building supplies, furniture, etc.) It's fantastic for that.
    Also much like the Ford and pro power, I've used V2L for stuff like circular saws, shop vacs, and even carry a small electric grill now for picnics. The utility of EVs is amazing and they drive extremely nicely.
    I think a lot of people get hung up on the 0.5 or 1 percent of what they might do with the vehicle, and ignore the 99%+ of the time where an EV would work fine. Personally, the added convenience of an EV 99% of the time is worth a little pain that other 1% of the time.

      If your worried about mineral sourcing? The just passed ira will address a lot of those concerns here shortly.
      Ev manufacturers won't have a choice not to use U.S. based minerals or source them from countries with trade agreements with us.
      Also every $1 spent charging an ev has over .60c stay in the U.S. economy currently. But every $1 spent on gas or diesel has over .70c go outside our economy. But we have ev batteries which do not use nickle or cobalt anymore.
      Catalytic converters also use rare earths in their construction called platinum metals groups. In fact 60-90% of the mining directly for those metals is because we need them for cats. We make hundreds of millions of those each year btw worldwide.
      Engine air filters? Evs don't use those but we make hundreds of millions of them each year for gas guzzlers to dirty and then we throw them into landfills or dumps.
      Spark plugs? Hundreds of millions are made each year and the expensive ones use rare earths for the tips. 02 sensors can also use rare earths in their construction.

    Why do you have the huge chains from the trailer to the hitch? In Europe we use a thin wire that is connected to the trailers brakes/park brake so if the trailer tongue falls off the wire applies the trailer brakes and then snaps. This means the trailer stops and the car is free of the trailer so no issues with the trailer hitting the car causing damage and/or dangerous situations.

    id use the lightning for everything, including long distance heavy hauls, it would just be a pita plannning the a trip to hit a charger every hundred miles or there bouts and all the extra time to charge id have to figure that extra time into the trip

    I would expect it to be fine for this kind of towing. Aerodynamics are so important. Towing a travel trailer would kill the range but then again I wouldn’t tow mine with an F150 anyway. It would be pushing it to its towing and payload limits. All depends on your use case.

    Tows great when the load isn't an RV/travel-trailer basically. All about the aero.

    The biggest plus for the Lightning: When your friends ask you to help them move 100+ miles away because you have a truck…. Sorry, I can’t. It’s a Lightning.

    Could you show how it does towing a pop up trailer, or a teardrop?

    • @lego4virgo
      @lego4virgo Před 2 lety +2

      They did something close to that, with the 6000lb. trailer (it looked like a teardrop from the front) that they tested against a Chevy 2500 HD with a similar trailer. They only to about 100 miles of range, before having to charge up again. I guess a 2-3K pop-up might fare better.

    • @Bum_Hip
      @Bum_Hip Před 2 lety

      @@lego4virgo yep. I remember that one. I selfishly want to see something smaller like a 1,500 - 2,000 pop up, or teardrop because that’s what I hope to be towing. I’m crossing my fingers it preforms better than that taller 6k trailer did.

    BLIS will work with the trailer. There is another spot to put in those numbers. Also there is a software bug that causes those measurements to reset every so often, sometimes after every other key cycle. VERY annoying. Have a 22 F150 HDPP 157 tow rig. Many on the F150 forums with the same BLIS issue

    Why don't you just load the atv in the back of the truck and eliminate the trailer it would save you from hauling extra weight
