    13:23 I don't think this necessarily swings the draft back in JDG's favor, but Twitch support comes to my mind to fight for bot prio and then try to keep up with Bard's roams. I was considering Pyke as well because JDG has a team comp that's just begging for a champion with a reset, but in this case, I think getting that first kill is too hard with as short range as Rumble-Vi-Akali-Xayah is into Orianna. In retrospect, JDG should've picked Jinx and not Xayah. I also thought of Brand, but Twitch is a lot better at roaming, and I'm not even entirely sure Brand wins the lane back from Jhin Bard.

    Bard pick did make early game quite hard for Kanavi with Bard showing up to every botside skirmish iirc. Zeri Lulu has no dive pressure obviously, and Guma was happy to go Tempo on-hit and just scale up with the Varus. Shows also how strong the versatility of Varus is, because if Ruler had tried something more punishable, I'm sure Guma was ready to go HoB and smash bot.

    While I think you're on point about the bot lane matchups, I would heavily advise against saying things about pro play and the pro meta that simply aren't true. In this case, pros didn't just realize support counterpick was important, and pushing bot lanes are important. Afterall, we had a ranged support meta that fell away, and it didn't come back because of buffs or nerfs to the bot lane. Therefore, it had to have risen due to external factors from other lanes and smart meta reads.
    For example, I don't believe that bot push is the end game here, but that top lane is the star of worlds right now, with bot lane supplementing them. This is why unlike last year's worlds, where Heimer was a largely played support, we don't see the pick come out, nor did it succeed the one time it was picked. This is because the end game of bot push isn't just to push, it's to get the support out on the map. Heimer can't roam, so despite being a champion who supposedly has powerful push, this doesn't win games. in current meta, your push in bot has to translate into something somewhere else, that somewhere else being the top lane specifically.
    But why is top lane so important right now? I think it starts with the prevalence of Rumble after his buffs. This pick is so incredibly broken, but since it wasn't that way even going into things like the Regional playoffs, there wasn't a ban/draft strategy around the Rumble that works yet. and This is due to the prevalence of ranged bot lane picks in general. Going into the tournemanet, we had ADCs like Xayah, Aphelios, then Kaisa, Kalista who are usually paired with melee supports. (Aphelios not so much, but the other ones for sure). Ufnrtunately Rumble absolutely fucks those champions, and since he doesn't even have to enter the backline fully like most melee champs do, melee supports are omega useless since they can't actually peel a rumble in a way that the ADC can hit them without being hit. This means the ADC meta has to shift, which in combination with the next point is what defines bot meta.
    Anyways, this higher rumble priority has led to more and more attention being put top side to either get a Rumble ahead, or keep one from getting ahead. This leads into higher priority on strong top lane matchups, where you want to grab a champion that can actually either generate equal threat to the rumble, or do your best to set rumble behind. Unfortunately, many teams have found out that this very much isn't doable, which is why it's getting banned a lot more as the tourney goes on. From this point however, before we're perma banning rumble, and because Blue Side is still playing to be able to pick it, you now have a funny situation, because of this new top side priority, you are required to sit your jungler top side to help them.
    Now with increased top side priority, you are now free to pick hard pushing bot lanes, because you can exert pressure without fearing jungler intervention. You can't just shift jungler down after seeing this bot lane because you have to really sit down there to generate enough threat to prevent them from getting priority. (Because you have to clear vision once, then prevent them from putting down more vision). If you dedicate your jungler to sitting bot lane, top laners will end up taking over the game because their champions excel at 1vXing, especially when the game is full of immobile ADCs and Supports and less CC to stop them due to lack of melee supports.
    As you can see, there is a push and pull from top and bot, affecting where the jungle can play, and further affecting what bot lane can even pick. And you can also see how different teams work around this. T1 knows that 369 can't play Rumble, and Knight can't play Azir, meaning on Red Side, JDG have two bans locked in for the rest of the game. Having those picks locked is why on blue side, T1 is able to do things like play the Renata which you don't like for lane in G3, because without specific threats from JDG due to their inability to play meta champs, Renata is strong in team fights against these strong top laners and double ADC laners. You can see this hold true in the WBG vs BLG series as well. This time, because BLG have to ban rumble on Red Side since they can't play into it, they put TheShy on a tank, which allows their jungler to play bot side. This negates Caitlyn Lux because they can't push for free anymore, which is why despite being a pushing and winning lane, Caitlyn Lux end up being useless further on. WBG identified that one avenue of bot priority is due to rumble, and by taking out rumble, and reverting to a tank top meta choice, they've effectively shifted their Game 5 away from a bot priority game, play on bot side game.
    WBG also has a different solution to this meta shift, which is give TheShy a hard carry champion. As mentioned earlier, top laners are notoriously good at 1vXing immobile squishies, and by giving TheShy a hard winning top like Graves, they can also negate any botside advantages gained from a pushing duo. Because no matter how ahead bot gets, the Graves just kills all of them regardless as long as he is ahead. IMO, this is also why the build for Aatrox has started shifting from the tankier version, which was better when you were playing into melee supports, to Lethality which can just simply solo back line by itself.
    There are of course other things to consider. For instance, why did Chovy find moderate success in the GenG series after switching to playing Yone and Akali. Because Gen G realized to some degree that you need to have strong side lane authority via solo lanes. This is why they were able to take wins on both Red and Blue side without utilizing support counterpick. However in game 5, they fucked up by giving Rumble. Rumble is simply the meta defining champion right now. The entire game is warped around this pick, and banning it isn't a solution because his existence still means Red Side is -1 ban the entire tournament unless the opposing blue side can't play it. Whether rumble is up or not almost completely decides how drafts will play out, because Blue Side pretty much has to grab Rumble prio, and it'd be foolish not to pick a top lane counterpick in round one after that. When Rumble is banned, is the only time you can early pick something like an Ashe to flex, but you insta lose games right now as long as Rumble ius left up, and Blue Side has a player who knows how to play it. T1 has such high support prio because JDG literally can't play the champion, and are banning it on both sides. But other teams have shown there are other solutions available to double pushing bot meta. Their top laner just has to have more than 2 champs in the pool.

    Nilah is really great against Kai'sa, Vayne, and Tristana. With the W, they aren't able to auto her and so they aren't able to generate stacks for their on hit abilities or passives. I always try to counter pick Nilah into those matchups.

    What is your opinion on Janna not being picked in pro play? Is it because of her horrible laning phase (tho it's not as bad now after her mini-rework) or is something else? Janna is a nice counter to Rell/Rakan and I haven't seen her picked at all :(

    • @sebnanchaster
      @sebnanchaster Před 7 měsíci +1

      As a note, Worlds remains on one patch to the end so Janna’s rework would not be on Worlds patch. However, she was a valid answer even pre-rework but requires a bit of a unique playstyle that most pro supports frankly don’t care to pick up (which is also why only Keria can play Bard).

    • @CoachCupcake
      @CoachCupcake  Před 7 měsíci

      I think she's not strong unfortunately, if you want a disengage enchanter then Renata will do a lot more. She is too weak in laning phase and having to be reactive the entire game is tough, especially when engage supports can use their flash and 1 shot you or your ADC.

    • @ZhivkoZlatev01

      @@CoachCupcake absolutely agree, do you think that she would get picked in pro play now after the rework and the new buffs that she's gonna receive next patch?
