Apologies, I doubled the daily rate by accident when giving the example. It should be 325 g not 650 g per day for the kitten stage.

People have been saying raw meat will make cats sick like us humans! Thanks for showing I was right that they can! Cats are CARNIVORES and eat birds and mice and other wildlife without being cooked so how is raw chicken and stuff any different? Awesome video!
Exactly! Cats actually have a short digestive system that is super acidic. So bacteria have a hard time getting them sick. Also if you use quality meat from a good source it’s hard for them to get sick. Love your comment :)
Thats tru they can eat raw meat without any problems
But humans can do that too, the problem is in wild life cats eat fresh meat mostly they kill kt and eat it instant
Thats not always the case with our meat we can buy at the supermarket its not always that fresh
The person that posted video is very ignorant and doesn't know what the heck they are talking about! Watch this video of the 14 things you're not supposed to feed your cats. czcams.com/video/4CmKWyNuj-I/video.html
@@DaKerim58but with human grade meat there are measures Put in place to prevent sickness even if it isn’t fresh which is why humans can eat it, So still what’s the problem?
Sometimes those measures aren't followed. That's why I freeze it in advance to kill any bacteria.
My dads cat killed and ate a rabbit a day in the deserr. It alwaus ate its head and brought us the body????I think it was feeding us too. It knew my mom was sick. Sweet tuxedo cat.

Thank you for this video. I recently adopted 2 cats and was stumped on how to start a raw food diet for them (I've had dogs all my life, so cats are new territory). They've been on cat food as I researched on a healthy raw diet for them, so this has been EXTREMELY helpful!!!
Glad the video was helpful!
Thank you so much for this video!!
I’ve always wanted to switch my cats food to raw feed but all I ever saw as recipes/examples were putting bunch of meat and organs with bunch of bones through a blender etc. I don’t have such a strong blender, nor do I have the money to get one strong enough to deal with bones. I gave up on the idea…

@@TheCatButler I have a question if you don't mind. What does your feeding schedule look like? Rn my cats eat wet and I feed them smaller meals 4 times a day with their largest one being at night. But I think it's different with raw or at least should be right? But I'm a little worried/confused about how to go about their feeding schedule when we transition
@@taillesshalo8373 good question. Their current schedule is twice a day since they are adults, but when they were kittens it was probably closer to three times a day. I'd say keep the amount of meals the same during transition as to not change too many things at once. First get them use to the raw meat change. Hope that helps!

Great video! We feed our cats raw as well, They are so healthy for it!
Yes!
Hello, so do you feed your cat that amount once a day or three times a day?
It amazes me how the narrative is raw meat will make for cat sick! 🐈 Then we get told the the processed kibble is the best... Like with us, fresh is best! But in regard to raw meat for cats and dogs... ❤❤❤
The thing is the companies that make kibble own a lot of the vet clinics now, so most vets are paid to say that kibble is the best!
Thanks for sharing, going to serve this to my furry babies ☺️
I would also recommend adding hot water to the bowl and waiting for it to cool down

I did have a question about the “bones” portion of the kitty meal. I picked up chicken feet and thought I might give it a try. Do you recommend grinding it up? How much calcium will I find per ounce in chicken feet? Can I say it’s a 1:1 ratio with regular chicken bones? Thanks so much for the help!

hey :) as a new owner and a cat lover, I am researching a lot nowadays about the best food for my kitty. I'm so thankful I found your amazing channel!! I wanted to ask you what food brand you recommend/ you think is a good start for my cat (asking as a student who doesn't have a moment of peace in life currently haha) thank you so much! love your videos!!
Hey that’s a great question! What does your budget look like? And what do you feed your cat now?
@@TheCatButler Have you heard of GRANDORF? My kitten is only 1kg and she is still growing up so I’m worried about feeding her the right things. (I also wish I could give her raw food, but I don’t know exactly how to do that). Thank you so much!! ❤
I just looked it up its in Europe right? I think the wet food version looks pretty good from the looks of it. The ingredients seem whole and not byproduct. So for raw food you can either make yourself like I do which is quite time consuming. I do it just so its super fresh and my cats love to watch me make their food. You could buy a premade raw food which can be easier for you. Key when choosing is where they source their meat, and if they had any recalls. I live in the states so my choices may not be available in your country. Hope that helps!
@@TheCatButler Thank you! I have the dry food of their brand... can I add water to the dry food to solve that? (until I figure out how to raw feed her lol)

I am glad you enjoy the videos! Wishing you the best in getting a cat again :)
How many times a day do you feed Arya and Teemo? And do you have food puzzles for them? And if so what food do you use in the puzzles? We will be adding two little Ragdoll kittens to our household at the end of februari, I've never had a cat before and I'd like to try raw feeding them (though it still seems a bit daunting). I also like the concept of food puzzles, but these are usually aimed towards dry food pieces. So I was wondering how you use them, if you do? Really love your videos btw! You make it seem so easy to become a cat butler ;)
I feed Arya and Teemo twice a day, ideally if you can do 3 smaller meals that would be better because that mimics their wild lifestyle. I have to leave the house for work so 3 isn't doable for me.
I recommend some freeze dried treats made out of human grade meat for the puzzles. Here is the treats I use: amzn.to/3FHMHfi
The concept of food puzzles is great for mental stimulation for the cat. So I commend you for thinking so far ahead :).
Sometimes for puzzles I try to entertain my cats other ways. I tried to reenact a cat hunting in this video here: czcams.com/video/aoMTAVwgu8s/video.html

And congrats and getting two new ragdoll kittens! So happy for you :) They will love you like no other hehe

What if your cat doesnt eat it all? Do you just leave it out until they do?
When you buy raw food for your cat from an excellent market, how do you store it in the fridge and use it daily for your cat?
Hey so I usually make 2 weeks of meals and store it in the freezer, I will then slowly defreeze some every day to feed them. Hope that helps!
this video makes me much more confident and comfortable transitioning my recently adopted 4 year old cat to the raw food diet! one question i have is that if there are any risks to feeding our cats raw food such as exposure to salmonella and e.coli? is there any special way you store or prepare the food so that those risks are lowered?
thanks so much!
Hey good question! Are you referring to the risk to us preparing the food for them?
In terms of your cat. Because cats are carnivores they have a very short acidic digestive tract designed for processing raw meat. The acidity kills most salmonella and e coil. Any bacteria left is shed thru feces. Let me know if that helps!
oh i see! yes that helps thanks so much 😊
My cat loves mayonnaise
Mayonnaise is just a jar of seed oil. Look at the ingredients, it’s incredibly unhealthy. Really shouldn’t give it to yourself or your cat. Like us they need animal fats
Great Vid! so informative thanks!
Glad you found the video helpful!
I asked for this video in another of your videos, but given you've covered this topic please ignore my previous request. This was very helpful and I will certainly try this for my babies. I just hope they go for it, two of my children are VERY particular about what they eat, which can be very annoying but we just have to roll with it I guess. Who said taking care of your kids was supposed to be easy, right?
Vinny that’s right! My cat arya is super picky as well. Sometimes need to change up the meat to make happy. Likes variety
Mice, bugs, fresh water. Done.
@TheCatButler, awesome, dude. I don't have animal companions myself, but I do feed a couple of stray cats dry food. Not ideal, I know, but I would appreciate any feedback regarding a good brand. I do organic and grain free, but what else would be helpful? Just because they are stray shouldn't mean they get a cheap meal.
Hey! You are awesome feeding these cats :). But type of food were you looking for. A wet food or a raw mix?
I was thinking of switching my cat to a raw food diet. My only concern is meal prep for raw chicken. Do you have a seperate place to prepare raw meats in your house? Also, is it unsafe to touch my cats face due to bacteria build up from her meals?
The only thing I'm on the fence with this is the supplements, humans aren't required to take supplements every day and it has already been proven that supplements aren't as effective as the real source and are a lot harder to be assimilated by the body, so with a much smaller digestive system it seems like a waste
Hey...
Try not to forget. Everyone has sponsors..

Holy complicated! Need to take a nutrition course.
Can u show us a couple of meals 4 cats w kidney disease please ?!??!
I gave my ckd cat raw chicken liver , just got it from the store, all blended with a little cat food, she immediately vomited and had diarrhea. Now I feel bad.

Thanks for the informative content! How long do you freeze your meat for before restocking? Also have you ever dealt with minor freezer burns on your cats meat? and has it ever been a problem?
Garish great questions! Usually I make their meat for a 1.5 week period so it’s fresh. And there never has been a problem with freezer burns. Hope that helps!
@@TheCatButler thank you! Also in regards to the organs, can I do 5% liver and choose hearts for the other 5%? Or does chicken heart have to come in large quantities (15% of muscle meat as you mentioned). Just curious as my prep would be a lot easier if I incorporated 2 organs instead of 3.
@@HarishVaithy yeah chicken heart needs to come in larger quantities, it contains the bulk of the taurine needed for your cat. Yeah I agree the 3 organs is a pain :( but essential for balancing their meal.
How much does this cost per meal or per day (serving each cat two of these meals per day)?
Hii not sure if you’ll see this, but I just recently adopted a cat I think it’s around 3-4 months. I want to try feeding them raw food and I see you suggesting raw chicken as a starter, so my question is for the supplements like fish oil, taurine, etc. do I start giving them now or do I have to wait until a certain age? Idk if my question make any sense. I hope you get it! 😁
You can gradually give the supplements as your cat accepts them. So chicken at first then chicken + fish oil, then chicken + more supplements. Hope that helps!
Thx for sharing! ❤i about too get a cat for my birthday 🎂!!!!!❤

Dear Mr. Cat Butler! Thank you for this video, it's really informative and giving a clear image about raw feeding. We have already making the last step of the transition in raw feeding. I have only one question regarding the calculator on perfectlyrawsome: I have also a 6 months old cat like Teemo, tho she is just 4 kg, but the daily recommended food intake when I have calculated for me was only 260 g which is much more less that you gave to Teemo. I'm just wondering that did I do something wrong or you used a different calculator? I don't want to give her less food or too much neither. Would appreaciate your opinion. Thanks in advance :)
Hey congrats on making the transition! Hmm I believe the calculator has also the option of picking how active your cat is based on how old it is. Usually more active cats more food. 260 gram should be correct. I went back to the calculator and I believe doubled the number thinking it was per meal, but the calculator is calculating per day. Good catch! No you are right haha. I usually work with ounces so may have not have caught the error when I was making the video.
Thanks a lot for checking it again :D I didn't want to correct you I just got scared that I might did something wrong and I gave her less as since we started the transition sometimes she is trying to steal from the kitchen counter. :D Thank you again.
Why do you not mix the powders in with the meat? The cats still eat the powder like that? Just curious :)
Hey good question! I usually add water and mix it. The powders were neatly displayed for the video :)
Thanks!
Evelyn you are Welcome!
thank you I have been feeding my cat dry food and now most of his teeth have been removed . I have been a uneducated cat parent
Hi ! I was wondering why you advice against feeding the egg whites to cats ? It contains proteins so I'm just wondering why it's not a good idea, so I can better understand the situation. Thanks a lot for your guide ! Have a nice day, take care !
Hey there is a protein called avidin in raw egg whites that can bind the essential vitamin biotin (also known as vitamin B7), so cats are unable to absorb it. Over time, that can cause a vitamin deficiency. Hope that helps!
@@TheCatButler Ohhh, I see ! Thanks a lot for the help ! Have a nice day, take care !
Hi! You probably won’t see this since the video is so old, but I was wondering if you’ve ever given your cats wet food instead of raw food? If so, do you have an idea of what wet food is best? I’ve done tons of research but no brand seems that safe. I’m not sure where to start looking again.
Hey so once I got my kittens I started transitioning them to raw. These are wet foods I found to be okay given the reviews. But I still liked raw better!

What if your cat has been eating dry food their whole life (10 yrs), is it safe to switch the diet completely right away?
It is safe to switch the diet, you just need to do it gradually
Also why do you only feed egg yolks twice a week? What do you use when you don’t use egg yolks to get them to eat their supplements? I also didn’t see you add the fish oil to their food but you presented it on the video, so you add that or just forgot to in this video? Also where did you buy the measuring spoons for mg? I’m sure I can Google it ;) thanks for all the helpful info!
Let me know if you freeze your meat or meal prep..
So I don't feed the egg yolk more than that because it would be too much for the cat. Eggs have loads of fat and cholesterol. Too much fat in a cat’s diet can cause pancreatitis, or add to an obesity problem. So I just give in moderation. Hmmm usually the cats eat the supplements without needing any thing else but the meat. Its possible I didn't show adding the fish oil when I did the final presentation.
You can get the spoons here: amzn.to/3rBweFj
I normally meal prep for two weeks of food and freeze the meats. Hope that helps!
I have cats that are ready to go raw. My only concern is the warnings I’ve seen about salmonella and camphylobacteriosis. Any tips on this? I have chicken hearts, giblets and chicken liver fresh from the butcher.
Hey good questions. So cats have highly acidic digestive systems. They are carnivores after all in the wild. This acidity makes them pathogen resistant. They also have a short digestive tract that gives bacteria little time to proliferate in their systems. Food passes through in about 13 hours, compared to two to three times that long for a human. If a cat ingests salmonella bacteria, it has a good chance of not being affected by it. Keep in mind this applies to a healthy cat; resistance can be severely diminished in a cat that is ill.
The concern is more about the people in the household, most of the emphasis on safe handling is to protect humans. hope this helps!
@@TheCatButler great advice. Thank you so so much!

How do you figure out how much iodine to feed a 10.5 pound cat that eats roughly 210 kcals? I’ve seen some raw feeders say its 18 mg…how do I measure 18 mg?
So I use these micro spoons - amzn.to/3UjzW37
It’s hilarious how people think raw diet is bad for cats. That’s literally what they’re made to eat.
yes!
Thank you for this great video. I’ve just started raw feeding my two cats and am gradually switching wet food with raw meats. I buy 500gr of raw meat and portion it. How can I ensure the meat is stored for a few days in my fridge so that each day I can take the portions, but without the meat spoiling? Should I buy 250gr more frequently maybe? If I freeze the portions, will it be ok to defrost them in the microwave? Thank you xx
Hey glad you enjoyed the video! You could prep multiple meals and freeze in the freezer, then defrost it slowly in the fridge when you need to feed your cat. Its how I do it and makes it easier for you. Hope that helps!
@@TheCatButler Thank you very much for your reply. I will now try out your suggestion.xx
I'm a bit confused by the math in the example. The total food for the day was 650 grams, but the chicken thighs and heart alone made up 650 grams, and the end total for the whole plate was over 750 grams. Plus, if heart is essential in their diet, why not just make an easier ratio of 60/20/10/5/5? Even if heart is a muscle, if I have to calculate at least 15% of 84% every time I measure, it makes more sense to round it up and make it its own ratio, no?
Elvira that ratio works too! So the total amount daily varies based on your cat's age. I believe when I was doing it Teemo was roughly a kitten stage. The 650 gram was a calculation mistake it should be half that. I thought the calculator at the time it was by meal, so I 2x times the number, it actually is daily total. Hope that helps!
does similar concept apply to kittens?
yes! they just need to eat more often!
Is the serving you prepared in the video supposed to last as one meal? Or does it last a whole day? Thanks!
What is the addictive ingredient you keep mentioning that’s added to commercial cat food?
Can you add few spoons of homemade beef stock to this? How did you arrive at this nutritional composition and product selection? Why no salmon in your menu?
Also regarding prep, have you ever ground all this together and froze portions or are you buying fresh all the time?
Hey Omar some good questions. I do add beef or chicken bone broth but one with no added ingredients. Cats can't have thinks like garlic or onion in their food. It is toxic for them. The nutritional composition is mimicking the whole prey diet cats would eat in the wild. So just plain meat may not have something like the calcium unless you add bone.
I sometimes give them Salmon, but it is sashimi human grade salmon, which means it is flash frozen to kill parasites.
So I don't ground the meat, I cut them up and freeze their meals in a container. I just like my cats to chew on meat and use their teeth, so thats is why I chop vs ground meat. So every 2 weeks I buy meat and chop and meal prep for my cats, then freeze the meals.
Hope that helps!
Hi
Hi
Always do your own research too!!!! Seriously
So if my cat naturally hunts outside (rabbits, squirrels, mice, birds etc) do I still need to adhere/stick to a raw diet? I still try to give him good foods but it seems like he honestly prefers to go out and get it sometimes.
Hi! Thank you so much for this guide. I tried to do some research and look at the websites you provided in the description. I am still not sure about one thing..so If I would feed my kitty raw meat bones (chicken wings, necks, feet) I don´t have to add the powder supplements into the meal? I would feed the corresponding ratio of muscle meat, raw edible bone, liver, and other organs.
Yeah you don’t have to add the calcium supplement into the meal if they get raw meat bones. But still need to add the other supplements plus muscle meat and organs. Hope that helps!
hi, do you do this every single day? how many times do they eat raw in a day or week? do you feed them hard food too? pls do an q and a! thanks a lot!
Hey I do it every 2 weeks. I make the raw meat portions in bulk and put it into containers.
They eat raw meat every meal. I only feed them raw meat. Hope that helps! I might make a video on how I normally prepare the raw meat in the future! hope this helps!

Thank you for the information! I’m still thinking about raw food diet, mostly because of my budget but I really wish i can make this balance meal for my cat, I’ll just start with chicken breast and the supplements in this video, I’ll try to get more protein sources when I’m able to
I just wanted to ask if there’s any supplements that can help my cat food to be more balanced with what i can get right now?
Hey I think it is tougher to do. I haven't done no organ meat myself so I am not sure I can help, but you could mix chicken breast with a high quality wet food for the time being till you think you can get organ meat.
@@TheCatButler that’s unfortunate but thank you for help, sadly I didn’t even find fresh meat or chicken in my area, they all have like two or three days in the fridge and I’m not very sure if they are save for raw diet, but i get some of them and now I’m deciding to steam them, and since it’s may lack of turine and protein with cooking i thought like i can put one boiled egg daily, however I’ll search more about this, I still hope i can do raw diet

@@mirassama4604 usually I have to buy it straight from a farm or a butcher shop may have it
@@mirassama4604 I've heard it's safer to feed raw meat if you sear just the surface of the meat. don't fully boil the yolk in the egg since you'd kill off essential nutrients.
My cats would never go for it. For some odd reason they dislike people food. They only like their crunchies and when I tried raw on the one he got sick. Maybe my cats are broken. lol
So the commercial cat food they add a very addictive ingredient in it so it’s why transitioning is difficult. But when changing to a new diet cats need to adjust. So give it a little time and you will be surprised and how they adapt to it!
Hello, I just have a few questions! I have a male tabby cat (no specific breed, I suppose), and he's five, turning six, this August. He weighs around seventeen pounds, and that's with me giving him smaller portions after adopting him. Obviously it wasn't immediate, it took some time, but my family has watched a documentary about cat and dog kibble, and how much harmful ingredients they actually put into it. I'm concerned for my cat, and I want him to live the healthiest and happiest life I can give him, and I have heard that there are more benefits for my furry friend from raw meats. After watching this video, I believe that Dude (my cat) will be much more better off with eating meats and not treats or kibble that are FLAVORED after meats, lol. Anywho, I was curious on if my cat would be able to eat the same meats as your cats, and how much I should give to him. I feed him twice a day (once at seven a.m and once at five-six p.m because of my work hours) and I have given him smaller portions because of his weight, as well as his sensitive stomach. He tends to throw up when I accidentally over feed him, and that's one of the other reasons on why I'm working on giving him food to help with his weight. He's not very active unless it's at night, but I'm not awake to help him get the exercise that he needs. Anyways, I think that wraps up my questions. I believe that you have the link to where you get your meats in your video description? I'm looking into these things.
Okay, so I found the food calculator, so that makes everything a bit easier, ha ha!
Haha yeah the calculator should help quite a bit! Make sure to have the supplements in your cats diet. For iodine just a small amount is needed.
Thank you for the help!
So do you give the calcium supplement AND raw bone? I see the calcium supplement is 250mg per capsule and I need to feed my cat 12.5g of bone per day per the calculator. I’m having trouble finding a butcher who can grind bones so I want to use the supplement. To give 12.5g per day, that would be 50 capsules. I’m confused
Hey Kailee that is a good question! So you can either give them raw bone or a calcium supplement. Which ever is easy for you! The calcium supplement is super concentrated calcium. so 50 capsules doesn't apply. So you most likely at most feed your cat one to 1.5 calcium pill per meal. Hope that helps!
@@TheCatButler Hi thank you for responding. I am getting a bengal kitten next week and am running around trying to find the right meats and supplements for their diet. What bones do you feed your cats? My butcher can only give me chicken thigh bone cut into smaller pieces, but is not able to grind it. I know my breeder feeds her cats chicken wings with the bones ground up and whole quails, but as of now I cannot find a butcher near me who can grind the bones or sells quails, so I am thinking of just using the supplements (1 capsule per meal)
Oh congrats on your new bengal kitten! They are a beautiful breed. So I just use the supplements since it is easier. The brand I linked (amzn.to/2PXwezO) uses bone from cows in Australia and New Zealand which is very high quality. If you choose to grind the bone you may need to grind the bone yourself. I haven't tried that.
If you need any other cat products for your new kitten you can check out my cat store: thecatbutler.co/. Feel free to ask any questions you may have!
Hey Man, love your video. Just want to ask, how do you store your meat, or do you feed them fresh? Should I be worried about worms when I'm feeding them?
Hey I prepare their meals in small containers and defrost them in the fridge and then feed them fresh from the fridge. There shouldn’t be any worms if you are using a reliable meat source
@@TheCatButler Thank you very much. I tried a small portion of raw meat, but they didn't eat it.
So this may be a silly question, but if people don't seem to have a problem with feeding rats/mice to pet snakes, why couldn't we do the same for pet cats? It certainly makes more sense than feeding them part of a cow which they obviously wouldn't be catching themselves.
Could I blend this up and make a pate? My cat is so picky she only eats pate from a wet cat food pack
Yep you can! You can get a grinder and you can mix the meat together. Teemo and Arya just likes to eat chopped meat.
They also became friends with humans because they developed a flavor for grilled meats
Hello, I just want to say that you are amazing. I was able to follow your advice to clip my kitten's (7.5 weeks old) claws. Just wondering, what kinf of measurements spoons you use in this video?
Just wondering, how do you measure 1.2 mg of manganese? Seems like a tough task to measure this by weight. Wondering if there’s a standard volumetric scoop we can use to measure Super Snouts joint powder…
Thanks for your great videos!!
Good question. So I would try to find the smallest mg spoon you can find and roughly estimate the amount needed. If you go over a little it is okay. Also if you prepare the food in big batches the scoops should have the appropriate sizing.
@@TheCatButler the scoops should have the appropriate sizes if you meal prep?
just buy a gram scale from the grocery store pretty cheap
Very informative video. Thanks. 🙂 How do you balance the calcium: phosphorus ratio? We have the value for the calcium, how about the value for the phosphorus?
hmm are you referring to iodine?
@@TheCatButler Actually, how do we determine the right amount for each essential nutrient?
Hey I know this is an old video but I was wondering if teemo is named after the league of legends champion? Also thank you so much for the content was hoping to switch my 13 year old cat over to a raw diet to hopefully give him a longer happy and healthy life!
Yes he is! I gave him that name because he was such a trouble maker when he was a baby. Glad the video was helpful!
I dont know how to feel when people mentioned that I should not give raw food.
Greetings, Hank you for this video. should the meat be washed or not? Thank you
Hmm so in the US it’s not necessary because of the modern food safety system. Putting the meat in water would also remove some of the flavor and make less enticing for the cat. Hope that helps!
Do you know anything about not needing fish oil because or urinary tract issues? Our cat had a uti and crystals about 6 months ago. Im having trouble finding more info about that
Hey! Let me clarify are you saying that is it okay to give a cat fish oil if it it was diagnosed with UTI 6 months ago?
@Jasper
Did u find anything yet?
It is the fish not the oil from it!
Fish are higher in Mg which is too much for them what causes actually the Uti, makes the ph of it alkaline.
Not the oil in it
pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/3994104/
I would suggest u not to get them fish at all!
U may provide the omg3
Also raw brain is a great source of omega🤷♀
@@tahsinzain3344 they had a nutritional vet appointment after I commented this and she said exactly that. Give them an omega 3 supplement vs actual fishes
I love this video so much and i hope i can convince my boyfriend to start our cats , my one question is i have a almost 3 year old cat whos only ever had dry adult kibble, will it cause her any tummy pains or anything to transition her from one day to another, what would be the best way to transition them?
It won’t if you do it gradually. So add a little bit of raw meat a little at a time till they accept it. Hope that helps!
Hi, if you feed them raw whole food - raw meat and organs - why do you need to add all that supplement? Are those minerals and vitamins you list in mice and birds but not in beef and chicken? Also, I'm surrounded by stray cats, and what I see is their preys are easy to catch preys most days such as lizards and bugs like moths and such, and here and there they have bigger prey like a bird or a mouse. Carnivores don't hunt every day. And they don't need to. Not one of the stray cats has weight problems like the ones that are fed store "cat food". I switched from dry food to raw for my cat at age 15. She hated wet food and was willing to eat only dry. But she had no problem eating the raw food from day 1. I bought pasture-raised chicken meat and organs at the farmer's market, grind it with some bones and bone marrow, and added the whole skin. Put it in small glass bowls and freeze it. It was a bit time-consuming but worth it. It wasn't more expensive than the better quality can cat food or dry food. I took in a stray cat and fed him whole raw too. Boy, he loved it soooo much.
You are an angel to these cats! So the reason I have to add supplements is the meats we eat they take away other parts like the brain and other organs. Those include nutrition I am missing. Hope that helps!
@@TheCatButler I see. The person who I buy the chicken and organs for my cat at the farmers' market grinds the part of the chicken that it's not for human consumption and sells it as cat food. I'm not going into details because it's kind of disgusting but it contains the inner parts too.
Hi! Very helpful video just wondering how can I calculate the supplements?
Hey Abbi that is a good question. It does depend on the weight of your cat. So for reference my cat Teemo is about 12 lbs and is an adult cat.
1. Iodine (Kelp) - 39 to 108 microgram per day
2. Vitamin E - 1 drop every 2 meals.
3. Green Lipped Mussel - 250 mg per cat or 1 scoop that comes with this product - thecatbutler.co/products/super-snouts-joint-power
4. Calcium - Since its concentrated about 1 - 1.5 pill per day
Hope that helps!
Dear Mr. Catbutler. I've been binge watching your videos. they're so helpful as I'm totally newbie to raw food. As I'm in research on raw food for my cats, I came across this video. I get intimidated and overwhelmed by so many supplements and multivitamin on the market. Could you please recommend me daily supplement that's is essential for raw cats food? My huge concerns are overdose the supplements or vitamins, put them in danger instead of beneficial. Thank you
Hey yeah sure so to break it down the one thing you should know is Taurine is the most important thing to provide your cat. This is in the meat you give and most of it is from the heart. Without it your cat will die.
Hmm when you say supplements the ones mentioned in the video are mostly essential and are recommended daily. Just make sure to give a little amount except for the calcium. Otherwise the supplements in the video are all you need. Hope that helps!
@@TheCatButler thank you so much for replying. It means a lot! Regarding vitamins and supplements, can I get multivitamin with all the necessary and essential instead of getting all the supplements you mentioned before?
Hmm I recommend getting them separately in case there are vitamins in there that aren’t good for the cat. Hope that helps!
@@TheCatButler well noted. Thank you so much
Im a deer hunter and i was wondering if it would be safe for my cat to eat venison kidneys and livers. I dont usually eat them myself but i try to save them rather than discarding them.
Hey good question! So cats can eat venison, but if it’s wild I recommend cooking them so parasites are removed. Hope that helps!
My cat loves deer liver. Since I won’t ever eat it he gets all of it. I don’t raw feed my cat every day but he’s not picky at all
I have tried feeding yolks, I have 4 cats, none of them took to it, neither raw nor cooked. They eat heart and liver well enough though, but only cooked. The only meat they eat raw is some fish.
Yeah it does take awhile to get use to it!
So what are the conditions to use raw ???
i’m confused, doesn’t raw meat give parasites to your cat? where i’m from we are advised not to do this to avoid Toxoplasma gondii and tapeworms. Maybe in your city raw meat has better quality control. Either way, your cats are so cute.
Hey good question! so usually from where I am if you source meat from a good source the meat is clean of parasites. Especially chicken and beef. For Fish only sashimi grade fish can be used. As they flash freeze to kill parasites. Hope that helps!
@@TheCatButler Thanks for the reply! Yeah that makes a lot of sense.
How do you know how much supplements to give?
Here is a good website on how much supplements to give
perfectlyrawsome.com/raw-feeding-knowledgebase/nrc-essential-nutrients-microminerals/
Are dehydrated things like chicken feet or heads considered “cooked” bones?
hey if it does't say cooked they are not cooked bones, hope that helps
Don't they supposed to eat 5% of their body's weight?
Where do you get meat? How to make sure it is good meat? Do you have any suggestions for already prepared frozen raw food for cats? Have you tried any of those?
Please link the diet calculator
So if chicken heart has a higher content of Taurine why wouldn’t you feed this instead of beef heart?
good question. hmmm sometimes there isn't any chicken heart availability. sold out. And its good to rotate different meats. Cats sometimes get bored of eating the same thing. Hope that helps!
For the salmon oil capsules, is one a good amount for omega 3?
What would a portion of sardines look like instead of salmon oil?
Thank you!
Yes 1 salmon capsule is good. more like 1 sardine per week. Hope that helps!
@@TheCatButler thank you so much. Oh wow that’s a lot less sardines needed; a tin has a ton of sardines! I’m excited to start prepping meals for my senior cat
❤️ thank you for the helpful information, and online cat store.
