Sophronius' Christmas Sermon - 3 Minute Quran Study: Episode 16

  • Starting with this episode, we will be looking at sources from outside the Islamic world which are typically used to support the Islamic narrative.
In this episode, we're starting off with Sophronius' Christmas sermon which is often believed to confirm the idea of an Islamic invasion in Syria and Palestine around the year 634 AD which is when the sermon was held. We will see that Sophronius does not mention an invasion, nor sieges or captured cities.

I agree. The Abbasid version of "Prophet Muhammad" was a later invention. I don't think Prophet Muhammad of the Hadith and Sirah existed. Maybe there is Arab King in 7th century who claim to be a Messiah (among the Syariac Christian, "Muhammad" is a Christological title for Jesus), or maybe claim to be some kind of Prophet. But I don't think there is a real Prophet Muhammad. Prophet Muhammad just figure created as a tool for the Abbasid to unite his people, by creating a counter-narration to the Byzantine Christianity.
