This is easily the best comparison I've ever seen. It's interesting to see the delta between the Flash and Minimo is so much smaller than Jetboil claims. I was worried about giving up significant boil time in exchange for heat control but seeing that wasn't the case this really cements the Minimo as the best option, for me.
When you use additional cookware with the Minimo, you pack the pot stand with said cookware. Minimo does it all. Never had an issue with its weight or space. If you were to buy only one and intend to cook, then get the Minimo. If you just want to boil water, then get whatever the hell you want. lol. Good Review!
Very nice comparison of the different features. I think I'd go for the Minimo because it's more flexible with the pressure regulator. The stash is amazing because of its weight, but since the pot doesn't lock to the burner it seems less stable. Even though that makes it more usable for other cooking gear, it won't be much fun with the burner blasting at 100% all of the time Flash, Zip and Stash seem to be more about boiling water and using that to rehydrate meals.
After researching Jetboil stoves and similar MSR stoves, I came very close to purchasing a Minimo. However, I noticed that every video I watched that did test boils only put 500 ml in the 1-liter pot for the test. I wondered why because my aim would have been to use it on backpack trips with my wife where we typically boil 1 liter of water at one go each morning and again at dinner time. So being able to boil 1 liter was a functional requirement for us. I tracked down the Minimo user manual and discovered this: "Do not fill pot more than half full. This may cause boil-over, resulting in injury. " So, the pot that Jetboil bills as a 1-liter pot is, according to their own user manual, actually only a 500-ml pot. To make things even more confusing, one video I watched pointed out that the pot has a max fill line that corresponds to about 700 ml. Either way, it wouldn't work for us. IMO opinion, calling the pot a 1-liter pot is misleading since it can't be used to boil 1 liter of water in one round of boiling. If you go by the user manual, the advertised pot volume is effectively off by a factor of two.
I have the Jetboil Micromo which is essentially a slightly smaller version of the Minimo. It has a regulator and simmers well. The only complaint I have with it is the lid can come off easily when drinking coffee from it spilling hot coffee on your chest so hold the lid on with a finger while drinking to prevent this. Other than that I love it.
I just bought a jet boil I mean it’s a great looking kit sure for less money you can get something comparably or even better but as far as looks that thing sure is pretty !
Is the Minimo big enough for 2 people when cooking an actual meal inside? I feel like it's more like a 1 person pot. I think the Sumo (not shown in video) would be better as it's a 1.8L
Its spring 2024 and Ive noticed its suddenly youtube "influencer" hip to shit on jetboil. Anything to generate content I guess. Ill stand by my jetboil for thermal efficiency and pack-ability.
The minimo offers the most versatility in my opinion, great to put a skillet on with the pot attachment, can cook in the pot also and also do your standard boiling of water. Great system
I got a Jetboil Zip for Christmas and I am getting ready to go on a backpacking trip and noticed that the zip burner stove rattles. Is that normal? It hasn't been used yet.
The Zip fits into my pack a little better and the lid is more secure than the minimo. The zip I boiled some water and then added some ramen noodles and it boiled over a little bit and the strap handle proved harder to remove pot with overflowing boiling water from stove harder! Turning off the burner with overflowing boiling water was a little hard to do on the zip since it doesn't have the metal triangle that folds out. I prefer having a regulator and collapsible metal/rubber handles of the minimo. The lid on the minimo doesn't really stay on, but I might have an older version of the lid since it is kind of a smokey grey/black color and feels like plastic whereas the all black lid on the zip fits snuggly and feels kind of like a rubbery plastic combination.
I think if you get the right pan and want to monitor your food you can cook food on any of these...just a theory but I'd rather save the money to pay for food on my outdoor adventures
Yeah just very casually, and quickly, gloss over the fact that the Minimo sysytem does not all fit inside, even though its one of the main selling points that they are meant to be an all in compact system ! Another failure with the Minimo is that the whole weight of whatever you are cooking is only just supported by the thread on the gas can connection, especially if using the pot support with a pan full of real food, it wobbles. also the strainer on the pot is useless as even a few bits of corn, peas, or freeze dried food in soup blocks it up.
I camped next to another fellow...random encounter. He had a Jet Boil I had an $8 Amazon burner and a empty small coffee can i keep everything inside of I was drinking a cup of brewed coffee faster than he was. Boiling water with a bunsen burner really isn't rocket science. Much ado about nothing.
@@millibarman the coffee can is unlined steel, unlike a veg or soup can, since coffee in vacuum won't rust steel. You're breathing carbonized air from catalytic converters everyday and NOX from CVCC motors. If older than 40 you spent a lot of time close exposed to TetraEthyl Lead, and have been breathing it still. Your medicines have poison and carcinogens in them as stabilizers. @@STho205 not sure where “worry” snuck in. I like the coffee can thrift. Question about bacteria in coffee can seams was serious, not facetious. Jetboil stuff is crazy expensive for sure. $8 plus a boiler cup and you’re home, no argument, but in addition to the squigglies I’d run the chemical components of the coffee can by the nearest chemist or metallurgist before heating it to 212° and consuming even the finest roast. @@millibarman bacteria in unclean vessels is the cause of the user and poor cleaning. For anything boiled to 100c the bacteria is dead. Are you sour it doesn’t say micromo on the jet boil ? Bc there is a smaller version of the Minimo
They’re covering themselves against liability, I own it and it crushes 1 litre of water with ease.
I bet you could boil 1L without issue, provided you actually watch the pot and turn off the heat when it starts to bubble over.

The regulator is worth any penny.. if just not boiling water and preparing food, the regulator is a the bomb.
100% agree!

Jetboil Stash plus Soto Amicus 500 ml 1.15 min!!! indoor
My zip weight is 425 grams as per box but went 435 grams actual weight!
Which is best if you want to take a skillet and also need it adjustable

I watched only once, so I could be wrong … It seemed to me your verbal descriptions of boil test times and stats were at odds with the timer videos
Did you test each stove with a brand new cannister of fuel. A brand new cannister has more pressure and will provide a quicker boil time.
Great point. We will keep that in mind for future reviews.

No concern about the can with seams and edges holding bacteria, or you know, hexavalent chromium 😬?
