I have formulated the 4-Step plan to make it as simple & practical for you to get as much value out of your Kiriko gameplay. In the video I explain what each step means and what could be the reasons of a poor execution.

it's 4 steps for awkward, but usually 2 steps for me : step 1 engage; step 2 respawn.
LOL! I feel that haha
1.) Engage, 2.) Flail around helpessly trying to survive, 3.) cry while watching kill cam 4.) respawn
@@DirkDeadeye_this
You forgot about step 3, feel bad for not playing support in a traditional sense and healing people. Then because you feel bad that the plan is not working you revert back to your old hardstuck ways of healing teammates because at least then there's a chance you may win.
Facts
It's so funny to watch your team type "kiriko why no heal" only to turn around and watch the enemy type "your kiriko is carrying"
when metal ranks realize that kiriko, bap are just dps that can heal
his teammate is so annoying and hateful for no good reason
People wanting to climb instead of wanting to improve, get neither, and decide to blame it on others because it hurts to accept you are making mistakes and it's boring to rewatch vods to figure them out, a lazy approach that yields little results
At least they are entertaining to watch
Happens so often lmao enemy team will compliment me while my team is losing their mind over me playing objectively correctly
And this trash player still doesn't get it. Then he even started to wall teammates, just to give Blizz a reason to ban him instead. This dude must be a literal donkey in real life.
This content is gold, not only the fun part also the education.
Made it from Dia to GM with Zen, just by following the rules, had 74% winrate and still got flamed almost every game.
2 out of 6 Overwatch players are human waste.
But I still write "Support not Healer", everytime I oneshot a hard engaging Awkward viewer, sorry guys. :D
“Kiriko why not heal”
“Your Kiriko is carrying”
The duality of man.
Finished: kiriko why not heal?
enemy: your kiriko is carrying
Finished: would be carrying more if he healed
also finished: 12/8 on mei against genji
Truly an overwatch experience.

So I used the 4 step process at work. I engaged my boss, closed the distance, entered his office from a window told him I wanted a raise, he said "what the fuck, how did you come in through the window..." things were going bad so I TPed out. I didnt have teleport so I threw a roll of toilet paper at him and jumped off the balcony. I lost my job, but I think it was a solid strategy.

Good work, however you just need a bit more practice, instead of using toilet paper try using actual Kunais (just like Kiriko!!!!) on your boss if he counters the play again.

3. Off Angle

A small tip for everyone: You cannot improve right away. It takes time and effort become good at a specific character. You won't become a GM level player overnight. Be patient. Don't stray too far away from your team
It kinda is easy to get gm overnight nowadays with the broken ass mmr system. Tons of people got boosted to gm
@@BigBoss549 yeah they got boosted. Solo que is going to correct them though.
@@BigBoss549 that was an issue for ow1 too...
Thanks for the advice and the positive feedback I believe in myself now
@@bellsgg i think he means that people get boosted in solo queue. Not boosted in the traditional sense of another player carrying you on an alt. But something is fundamentally broken in the system, to the core, as there's been multiple instances of people going 5-0 several times in a row and staying in the same rank and division, and people going 5-0 and going up by +5 divisions at a time, even on accounts with a lot of play time already. It's not that big of a deal but to my knowledge it wasnt this broken in the old SR system
I find that the people that complain the most about not being healed do not understand how to hold space. They don't use cover, they don't disengage, they use their defensive abilities offensively, and/or they don't know how to cycle their abilities effectively.
There are supports that also don't understand these things, but when the other roles *do*, they don't have to rely on healing as much.
Essentially, virtually every time you complain about someone else not doing their part, you miss where you can improve.
Love the vids Awkward!
Yeah, most of the time tanks are playing by rushing in and thinking "let's how deep into the enemy team I can get before I die", so if you pocket them of course they are going to last longer but that's not going to win the match
THIS
Im a support main who used to always blame my DPS and tanks for not protecting me everytime I die
I then started blaming myself and started looking for ways to improve and would barely get killed nowadays as Ive learned to disengage and retreat in the backlines when needed
Honestly, that’s what spending a good time on each role can help develop essentially from playing each role the main thing I learned was
Support: you’re not dying because your teammates suck you just position bad
Tank: There’s not enough healing in the world that can save stupidity. Use your corners and learn right and wrong times to go in
Dps: Off angle, high ground, know where health packs are because your support is gonna be too busy, surviving or healing the one man army Reinhardt to heal your highlight thirsty tail.
I just started playing comp like 2 weeks ago and oh my gosh the learning I’ve had to do in that time frame lmfao. I’m glad I’ve learned to take responsibility more for my teams failure and in return helps me think of ways to better help them. But also I’m at a crossroads right now because I struggle when switching between heals and dmg. In a lot of games the moment I stop heal botting and do dmg to help the team my tank instantly dies, but I don’t want to keep healbotting because I know it’s not the best way to learn, considering I’m an ana kiri main. I’m just trying to figure out what I can do when my tank dies instantly and for some reason can’t use cover or high ground. Just feels like there are never enough heals
yeah they just want a healbot to protect them from their dumb ass choices, i dont enable that bs
i have this weird glitch where my teammates take too much damage all the time and then blame me for not healing enough when i’m on kiriko
I'm a gm kiriko n u need to balance healing and dps. In most fights awkwards plan is gonna work but a like 5% of fights it's not. U just need to recognize the 5%.
Use them as a meat shield then gaslight them and say you can’t outheal bad positioning
you're not doing enough then
Im masters on kiriko and zenyatta. Healing more is not helping to win, at most you keep your teammates alive for just a bit longer. If you succesfully distract the enemy and once in a while make a kill while getting the drop on someone, your team wont need as much healing because they will take less heat.
thats why awkward always starts with damage, when you start with healing the enemy team has a chance to engage vs if you started with a little dps, ur team would have a bigger advantage hence taking less damage hence needing less healing
Unranked to Banned series let's GOOOOOOOO
I can do that in one game.
I love how in the second match even the enemy team was like "yeah your tank was ass" and the mei blamed you😂
That Mercy on his team called him out as well :( You'd think a Mercy would have more awareness lol.

I've been climbing with Kiri and a 60% winrate but, when you lose, team will always blame you first.
Had a Kings Row game with a Rein who acted like a frickin bronze. Enemy had good Widow and Rein kept charging to the other side of the map, then hiding or fighting behind walls so neither healer could see them, or reach them safely. They would hold shield when Widow was dead and go full hammer when she was alive and aiming at squishies.
End of the game they had an 11-15 K/D, the only negative one in the entire lobby. I was 31-5 with the lowest deaths and second highest heals in the lobby.
Rein went into all-chat and said "report our Kiri for throwing"
Metal ranks have never once looked in a mirror. However my winrate is going up as I've been climbing so I should be rid of these idiots soon.
My favorite part of playing support is teammates that are out of position and flaming supports for not healing them enough. Super fun

I'm glad you're enjoying the game more, and I'm sorry that happened to you! It really is unfortunate that some guys have an aneurism when they hear a female voice online, when we still make up 50% of the general game playing population. I stay mute as well most games, I used to do call outs a lot and strategize in early OW, but being met with toxic abuse by strangers in a game I play for fun, isn't fun and I ended up scrapping competitive play altogether. Meanwhile you get guys screaming nonsense in VC blowing your ears out and being disruptive and no one bats an eye. Thank goodness for the ping system lmao! I still find myself wanting to make calls in QP and I'm way too competitive for that mode, I need to start playing Comp again, but my anxiety stops me :(. I wish you all the best and I hope you make it to Masters+! :D

Awkward, I don't play that much OW anymore but your videos are still a delight to watch. Best teacher on the internet, hands down! Damage, damage, damage!
A10 is a really good teacher as well, but I agree. Awkward is just different man his advice is way too practical. They have completely different play styles but both have extremely valuable information.
@@cjvallee7524 I agree, A10 is great too but I really don't have "first-hand experience" following his guidance so I can't comment on that. The great thing about Awkward's teaching is that it's very actionable - just like here, he gives you a clear plan to have in your mind when playing and not just muddy general advice that anyone can practically give.
@@kaileena7he have top tier dva advice, his video was useful. Talk about the fundamentals a lot, but yes ackward is practical. I wish we have a video about dva.
Masters 5
The thing that takes a ton of time to understand that Awkward does not go into is what "things go bad" means. It takes a lot of game knowledge to know how each duel and map position plays out.
Still a 10/10 philosophy, and a great way to encourage people to make the plays that will win games. He focuses on a few things that a ton of people get wrong. He is a S tier teacher, hope to get to GM by using his style as a foundation to build on.
I believe I explain throughout the video that "things go bad" mean "I am in danger of dying".
@@Awkward2 I think he means having the game sense of how far can you push in before you need to tp out. Like one more shot to finish an ana vs tp out early and losing out on value. I think it's frankly just and experience thing, and learning my trial and error.
@@Awkward2 I think what he meant was the reason why low ranked players are dying alot because they do not understand dangerous situations and when to stop peeking or when to back out. They do not recognise if they are considered slightly in danger or "oh shit!" situations. That intuition comes with practice and experience.
@@Awkward2 yes but people need to learn when they are in danger of dying but that's something they must learn on their own.
You are doing nothing wrong.
@@teoyongsen yes
This might be surprising, but his Unranked to GM with supports helped me climb from gold 3 to masters 2 ON TANK. I think awkward's line of thinking for solo queue, that is to keep the role of your hero short and simple, and not overthinking/overstrategizing, maintaining an attitude where you ALWAYS think about what you can improve and not what you cannot, and knowing that its okay to make mistakes/lose games, I climbed up faster than I ever had in years of OW1.
Honestly, every role in OW2 is played fundamentally the same. The only notable difference is what each individual hero is capable of doing and how to best exploit their kit.
Understanding the roles of different classes in the game will indirectly help you cuz you know how your supports should and will act and how you can use that to get value from them
"Lore accurate Kiriko!" Amazing 4 step plan
The guys on Midtown were hilarious. They had a GM support on their team and still lost because of their poor understanding of the game and immediately blamed you because muh healing number too low :(

Its hard to watch how in low ranks everyone sees Supports as mere Healers, nobody could see in the 2nd game that the issue was the garbage Tank of your team, they were blaming you instead lol.
Maybe thats why they are hardstuck in metal ranks.
Their lack of fundamental knowledge is exactly why they are hard-stuck. Mechanical skill doesn't start becoming relevant until you start climbing through diamond. Anyone stuck in Plat or below simply needs to improve their fundamental understanding of the game.
honestly, calling a support “healer” tells you all about the type of player they are. they think every support works the same and can healbot you instantly. they don’t see the value in the versatility of kiriko’s, ana’s or zen’s kit.
This is very true. I am a diamond player, but any time I am climbing through metal ranks you will be flamed as a support if you have any considerable amount of eliminations and damage done. 0-10 teammates will always believe that you not healbotting them is the reason why they are 0-10. I honestly just ignore teammates who have bad positioning and just focus on getting picks. I win more games doing that than wasting resources healbotting a tank who doesn't know how to position themselves and disengage so they don't die repeatedly.
Damn, that Orisa in your second game really thought you could just healbot through a turret bastion
Awkward experiencing elo hell in game 2 lol
Jokes aside, your videos have helped me see the game so much clearer and I can't wait for more of these!
That Orisa was hilarius xDDDD
people will see one game like that every 15 games then say thats why they are hardstuck gold lol
23:01 is the best example of playing support in low metal
I’m so glad Awkward helped me make it out
Okay I tried this and it's actually broken. I went from heal botting my team to actually doing something and single handedly winning team fights. It is actually a broken way to play kiriko.
This is the way to play Kiriko. A lot of people say this is “dps Kiriko” but it’s closer to “Tank Kiriko”, because the value isn’t really in your damage but your ability to distract. Kills or dinks are just distraction attempts that went extra well.
In this video, he has the hardest time on long sight lines where the tank is also trying to distract. He ended up not completing the off angle part, as the angles were too wide and his tank was already flanking , so he was just the main angle but close range. This is why they would come around and win when the map got to sections with closer range and more angles.
With your first Kiriko Unranked to GM, I literally climbed from plat to GM with ease. I learned to always be pro active , adapt to your team and to take off-angles & distract. I adopted your flanking playstyle and it’s really working for me. Thank you for the series !!
And how many time did it cost to You to adopt that playstyle??
He doesn't teach adapting to the team at all. He very much says what the team is doing doesn't matter and ignores them unless they're right in front of him with a critical marker on them.
I tried this, engaged and killed two supports in like 4 shots, turned around and entire team was dead and couldn't tele out
Fr like how do they manage to all die so fast? Your team has the other support while the enemy supports look at you. Like, how hard is it?
I guess you could retreat sooner to help them but then you just become a healbot again because the type to die in those situations is a feeder who will always need healing.
His voice makes me feel anxious af 💀 it’s like a strict teachers voice
I always second guess myself, lose confidence and then start losing games. Having a clear process to cycle makes thing much clearer and reduces the chaos of not knowing exactly what to do. Thanks for the helpful content, you're appreciated.
Was funny, second match even the opponent team calls out "My guy, they have 6k heals, same as our team, not a reason to report" lol. Anyway, I haven't seen the entire recent unranked to GM on Bap, but I guess the reason why you didn't have reports on the other characters like Zen and Bap could also be due to the fact that unlike Kiriko they don't feel as slippery (you have 3 survivability options on her: Wall climb, Suzu, Swift Step) essentially making her hard to kill and tilting the opponent.
In this episode the word damage will be mostly substituted by the word "engage".
Thank you for making these videos @Awkward !! Following your advice has brought some fun back into OW again. Keep up the good work!
This came at a perfect time for me. All your videos have made me so much more comfortable with the game and care 10x less about being flamed. Shoutout to personal responsibility and trying no matter what your team says. My favorite OW YT channel for sure. Time to go be a support, not a healer. Much more fun anyway.
People really come into the game with knives that can do as much as a rocket to the face and go naaah I wanna hold some papers at my teammates 😂👌

I watched this after it came out on twitch, thanks to you i climbed from plat 4 to diamond 5 in two days after being stuck since launch. Thank you :))) and hopefully i'll climb even more.
First game " so how much did they pay u kiriko" LMAO
Your teaching has completely changed my perspective on what it means to play support, I actually get pretty annoyed when supports aren't weaving damage in games. A dead enemy is that much less you have to heal your team
The 4 step plan has made me so much better. Winning way more games and climbing faster.
The way you distilled the way to play her into 4 steps is pretty incredible imo.
These steps do work. I've done a lot of qp and comp games using this, and when I do it correctly I find the games become easy. I'm still in silver 5 but that's mostly because of a few things. I don't use the most effective off-angles at the time, I focus the tank too much, and I disengage too late which means I die.
I know what I need to do but the problem I have is trying to get out of my bad habits. Which I think a couple of you guys might be similar as well so something that I'm trying to do is:
1) say the steps out loud. It really helps reinforce what you're supposed to do.
2) while in the off angle before you start throwing kunai look and think "Is there support? who is killable? is my team around so I can tp out?"
I know these are easier said than done, because I'm trying to get out of the habit of just going in blind, but I truly think if I keep doing this, eventually I'll get out of the bad habits and I'll be a better player.
Awkward if you see this somehow I'm going to make a promise to you. I am silver 5 rn as of season 9. By then end of season 9 I'm going to be at LEAST gold 3. If I don't, then I'll join your academy
Did you make it
I love how in that second game, at least the enemy Bastion recognised your team's problem lol
When I do this even successfully my team still cries and rages. If we lose I get the blame even though I played well. I guess that is the overwatch experience. "wE LoSt cAuSe u HaVe 6k dMg" like bruh

Bro the NPC's, it's so funny down there. If you don't bot-out like the rest of them they sus you out and vote you off the ship.
The Ana and Kiri content you do, the U2GM's and especially the Ana vids with only damage vs only healing, the best possible content aspiring support players can watch.
It's actually so fucking funny how you get bullied in low ranks for playing well but 'different', this also happens in other games, humanity's finest specimens behind those keyboards.
I found this video very useful and tried the play style myself; even though I died a lot and not doing much damage as I expected, but still won almost every game as Kiriko; I think the distraction /the play style puts less pressure on your teammate, and you most likely to secure a kill on 200HP targets or do lots of damage, and be able to get out. My biggest challenge is to know when to engage and to set up the kill/distraction. I feel the game is under control, and I am making lots of impact; even though I die sometimes. kiriko has two get-out jail cards and a solid ultimate; the concept awkward gives is not just for Kiriko; it is a fundamental concept for the game. You must somehow find an advantage for your team to win the fight. It would be great if Awkward could be more specific on how to get close enough to the enemy team or, let's say, how to set up the off-angle play; much appreciated! Ana coaching video is a must for everyone to climb; after watching these videos, OW feels like a different game; you think you actually have a lot of impact to win the game, but obviously, your teammate probably think they are so good and carry you to win, but who cares.

I cant stand when my DPS or tank is playing shit and then blame the healers, like no, you're not taking cover and you keep ego challengingly the enemy.
This video was extremely helpful. Have been practicing this play style all day and already feel like I’m making more of an impact. Thank you :)

You look at the scoreboard and realize that the supports have over 2K points of healing. The problem isn't that you're not getting healed, the problem is that you're dying. You die because you make mistakes and you make mistakes because you're worried about the wrong things. No one ever questions why they die in situations-rather they question their teammates. "I'm not healing you because 'I'm bad'. I'm not healing you because I'm not a heal bot. I'm a Support."
Bro don't do unranked to gm anymore. Teach the same principles in your own lobbies on your main account.
This is a reasonable point, I think a lot of it is because the most common cope is that players below GM don't know how to play and artificially hold others back from ranking up (ie. ELO hell, which U->GM shows as hard cope).
But...but... how could he stomp silvers every single day of his life if he did that? Come on man, it's his right to only smurf in this game and ur just hardstuck if you think otherwise.

awesome editing with the start sequence !
Really appreciate the videos man. Actually on week 1 of starting overwatch and my placement was gold 1 to start off. My aim has always been good but the mentality of this game is just different so these videos really speed up my progress. Thank you, dear new subscriber 😂❤
Can't wait to unlock kuriko tho she's next after I get junker queen
Alright time to feed as Kiriko lol
I'm here for another episode of "mY hEaLeR iS dPs'InG" game chat.
I was hard stuck silver and gold support before i found your videos. Taking what you say to heart i am now diamond 3 and so happy of my progress. TY so much for all you do!
bro you have been such a great help to me thx u so much !
I think the Tank role is more difficult than the other two roles for new players. I've had friends new to the game quit playing OW2 because they played like this 22:56 Orisa lmao.
nah they play like this cauz girls r bad at overwatch
This plan actually works
I turned around my losing streak
10/10
This plan is EXACTLY what I learned watching Viol2t playing Kiriko, and if the GOAT flex support does it, its certainly the best way to play. Great video to show everyone else! I haven't watched the whole video yet to see if he mentions it, but if you are going in make sure that you have a tp to disengage because you are cooked otherwise
as a kiriko main, i never clicked so fast, i gotta watch this
I imagine you can also do a scuffed version of this with moira
Moira is hard high elo
I was not expecting to see you here 😂
I've heard him not endorse or encourage people to play moira :p doubt he'll do it. If he does do it, it will prob be a video to prove how easy she is or something similar
You can but Kiriko is just a better character than Moira so it’s more difficult.
@@BasicSneedEducation yeah i tried it for a few matches. there's truly no reason to play moira just play kiriko. All her abilities are just upgraded versions of moira's
Nice. This is like a combo of your ana and tracer play style. Been using it and great results even with my wood tier aim.
Gotta love the in-game chatter. Good stuff mayn, very entertaining!lol
A game where mass reports get you instantly banned with no possibilty of account recovery is a sign of lazy development and moderation. Like many people have stated, there's people going around saying slurs of all kinds, spreading actual hate and discrimination of all kinds, and they keep seeing these players in-game for months. Also, I didn't know there was a TOS break saying that playing the support role forces you to heal a certain ammount or else its considered griefing. That seems completely arbitrary. In my opinion, that's probably not a rule at all, considering that Blizzard promotes the "TikTok Moira playstyle", and again is proof that there's close to no internal moderation on the game and the number of reports are the only thing actually counting towards bans. What a ridiculous system. They need to catch up to the rest of the industry with this.
lol i was present for the stream. was a great stream.
Man you are the BEST master, teacher and unranked to GM player I’ve ever seen. I just let you know how I appreciate your content, you’re doing it for free, just teaching us and I liked how you said no matter how many accounts or computers I’ll buy I will teach u how to do it thanks man! Thank you, you really made gone so far (specially on supports) and I hit the Diamond pretty easily so thank you again, how can I support you?
im on 17 win streak just because i do the 4 step plan, its crazy
love your content awkward, wondering if you could do one for lucio at some point or another
Yes pls. Would love to see how he applies his strats to a unique character like Lucio.
@@possumofdestruction definitely, and how would he strategize around people of different skill levels with wall ride
In a old zen tips video he said he’s a flex support for every hero except lucio. Not sure if this still applies but maybe why he hasn’t made a lucio video yet.
@@darwinno7696 yeah makes sense
Ain't no way this actually works
I managed to out dps my dps while being able to output a decent amount of support for my team
Take advantage of your 6 second tp cooldown
At first I thought my aim was dog poop, but it turn out I was all aim no brain
28:30 “They go back, I push my Winston forward” 😂
never had that much fun in support really appreciate your work
smurf is the blue people right?
😂😂No smurf is something like
Grand master player make a new account and play against low rank people and you may ask what's the deal? The thing is when someone in high rank play in low rank game he just make it so boring and always winning so the enemy team won't play the game no more or it least they get mad and now you know
@@VOLEEG it's a reference to what Awkward answered to someone in the game calling him a smurf
