Neverwinter: PvE Trapper HR Longstrider Playstyle Mod 10

- Hello guys!
I change my build and spec often to keep myself entertained and this was what I came up with pertaining to Mod 10. This way of playing also paves way for Trapper Archery playstyle by slotting another range focused encounter like Thorn Ward or Binding Arrow if Plant Growth is not your thing.
It will be a while before my next guide video as I shared just about everything I know about HR and its Combat and Trapper tree, I think.
Thank you all for watching and following my channel :D - Hry
why do you use the bard? he has two defense slots and only one ring slot and his active bonus is not the best
From a pure dps perspective, yes, the things u said are true. I'll list the up sides of why Harper Bard is a helpful companion FOR ME that I used to run with (currently using Fire Archon).
- Offence is not everything when I usually play by myself or with a few others, as such, defense slots give me more dmg resistance to withstand incoming attacks better when I have the aggro in the absence of a good tank in pug runs, especially when I'm the only one left to solo the bosses.
- One ring slot is really all that's needed. Brutality was the one I slotted it with. Other ones are less unreliable for the measure of effectiveness within a longer span of combat time that I usually engage in. I have loyal avenger companion gears and those are better than the rising/sudden rings in terms of overall stats gain and distribution.
- While it's true that flat HP buff for active bonus is not the best, he has a unique passive that buffs the owner with extra 10% HP at all times while he is summoned.
- At max rank (40) it buffs the owner and EVERY nearby allies with 920 crit/power/defense/deflect provided the conditions are met including itself and other companions which then gets passed back to respective owner of each buffed companion via bonding runestones. On top of all this, it also debuffs the enemy with -8% dmg/dmg resistance provided the condition is met and all the components of these buffs/debuffs can be active at the same time.
With all of those benefits, the bard is a very helpful companion that aids me in successfully carrying pug runs, soloingbosses/dungeons and providing additional support in every situation. The biggest downside however is that it doesn't do any dmg, so the great protector camaraderie will not work with this companion which ultimately resulted in me switching to Fire Archon for the time being.
thanks for the answer. Ok it looks like i underrated the bard. Well with my gear score i wont solo any dungeons bosses but good to know. (i mean the bard costs about 7 mil. AD)
best detailed guide video i have ever seen. i loved how to showed everthing at worked as you explained made me understand my hunter ranger 10x more thank you. you should do more guide videos. if you have a ps4 ill let you use my character to do guide videos.
Hi. I'm a returning player after a 4 year of hiatus. I found your guides interesting and very helpful for me to keep up. Thank you. Good work!
Very useful part about offhand bonuses and great video in general, ty Sume.
thank you so much, I had no idea what I was doing in Neverwinter, I will try and pay more attention to items' descriptions -_-
Great video! As per usual fun choice on tunes for it.
Thanks Bonk!
jase4yaz brought me here your videos are very helpful and very well edited. subbed.
Btw you are the best bro you helping me much With your builds tnx😀😀😀😀
I switched out my rain of arrows for the longstrider shot. I really love it, especially considering how quick the cool down on that and constricting arrows can be, and I also noticed it's especially good for single target damage. The only thing bumming me out is that it's not as effective (imo) at AoE damage as rain of arrows was, but it sure as hell is far more superior at taking down larger single enemies.
good game)) very nice!
damn i want to try this !
lol this is awesome, can really see the amount of work you put into your builds. And I didn't know that the stacking of Archons bonus buffs didn't work so thanks Sume and Sharpedge =) I haven't seen the weapon bonuses on the new weps for HRs yet but you think you'll change up again once you get them?
LLV stacking archons is broken?
Hey Sume!
Any tips on rotations for nsva/msva?
I was using longstrider, thorn ward, biding arrow, but I think that STS could be nice (would it free people trapped in ice?).
Hope you'll share some HR tips for this new content soon!
With your gear, i'd want to see a video / test where you do full archery and spec that 50% crit severity from combat tree. I've been playing this in mod 10 with only 2490 ilevel and i think it's really good and competes with warlocks and gwf's of noticeably higher ilevel than me. Sometimes beating chars over 3k ilevel. It's not propably for your play style, but in general it is very interesting and i'd like to see how it fares with BIS in slot stuff in this game. Use stag shot for debuff, aimed shot ( your prio damage dealer ), rain of arrows and gordon of arrows maxed. Never switch to melee stance so obviously don't spec AotS. For aoe rain of arrows and electric shot. For single target, stag shot, rain of arrows or gordon of arrows ( rain is stronger obviously ) and aimed shot as long as the prey buff is up until you refresh. Would you care to some day try and post a video?
Puny Poppy I would like to see your build. Been looking for an archery build forever and can't find a good one.
I'll post it later.
+Puny Poppy I tried archery build today. I was criting for 1 million with aimed shot. Huge single-target damage, but couldn't play solo against lots of mobs. I think archery is a dungeon and boss destroyer. But for solo play and missions doing it sucks.
Krzysztof Kiser
Thanks for the info bro. I didn't have probs in fang breaker isle soloing the first two places, but huge probs in icewind dale so yeah i understand. I feel the same way, it's definetly best as high dps support when you're in group.
Do you think you can make a guide on MMOminds please
Always enjoy your videos Sume. Run the same rotation, but as PF. Haven't been able to run it during FBI though, always slot fox's for party survivability. What made you return to trapper?
To effectively farm FBI, a Trapper with more Longstrider's Shot usage and higher dmg-over-time is preferred. The other reason is that I wanted to update and fine-tune my Trapper build for Mod 10 so some considerable play time with this spec is needed because I was playing as Combat the whole time as soon as Mod 10 came out.
Hi Sume, thanks for all your videos, super helpful! I don't have the AD currently to go for vorpal or dread, but have frost enchantment for my weapon. I was wondering with the new changes to the enchants, how much more viable frost is? It's been working for me so far, but wondered if you've tried any of the other enchants post-change.
Frost is a very useful enchant for a support role and if dps isn't much of a concern for u, then I think u'll be just fine. Vorp and Dread sure are expensive but they are still the ideal ones for HR. I've tried Lightning and Flaming and they generally aren't as good, less than 20% boost on average versus Vorp/Dread.
Thanks very much for your response :D having high dps would of course be great, but I like being a good support too. I'm thinking that I'll be working on my companions and switching to bonding before I get to switching out the frost to a vorpal/dread. Right now I'm running an augment and know it's not ideal for many reasons...
What's your opinion on a Crit sev build trapper? I've tried both builds and I can't tell which is better for the life of me I haven't found any charts with raw numbers on what's better skrim gambit or serpents bite.
Watched 2 vids and instant subbed, lol. Yo I notice you don't rock high arm pen. Is there a reason why you didn't get it to 60% ? I must've missed something :/
The rest comes from Companion Gift thru Bonding Runestones with some Loyal Avenger gears on the companion.
As a pathfinder, how would i reset the aots stacks while in melee to get full ranged, this referring to ur elol demonstration at the beginning.
how do you get all the movement speed? love this build but i still feel like im moving slower than i want to.
Sume are there any changes in the build? since 10.5 came out
Hi Sume !
This build is better than traditionnal trapper ?
See a lot of HR running without Longstrider
Thanks for your guides, there are awesome
See ya
Traditional Trapper as in Constricting/Hindering/CoA? Assume the players are of equal skill and gears, then this build will do a bit less dmg. If u aren't a PainGiver board chaser then this is a more helpful playstyle that everyone would benefit from. The mechanic of Longstrider is fun to use and should make ur gameplay feel more dynamic :D
T. Suwantemee
I see
Thanks a lot for answering dude !
won't be better if you use a set like orcus or lostmauth? anyway very impressive video, i'm an HR and hope to become like you one day :)
So you recommend Pathfinder now over SW? I noticed the downfall of bladestorm. Can't utilise your build now 'cause of really low movement speed. I'm affraid it won't work. I'm currently using SW trapper with blade storm. Would you recommend to stay with it? Or should I switch to Pathfinder?
And of course - instalike for the video. Full of amazing content and the FF references are awesome. Btw. which is your favourite FF part? Mine's FF8.
After the class balance with Mod 10's release, Blade Storm became very underpowered for Trapper (3% of total dmg output or less). The number is about twice as much for Combat. The main selling point of Pathfinder is Careful Attack, and because of that, PF is a bit better than SW for Trapper. SW Trapper can still perform well in Tiamat with StS and CSH, so it comes down to what u like to play as.
FF9 is my favorite of all time. The over-the-top limit breaks of FF8 and the Guardian Force are definitely fun to watch though.
+T. Suwantemee (Sume)
Haven't played FF9 but I plan to. One more question about HR. I want to try archery path build but I hear it's really bad. On paper, the feats look great and really powerful. To be honest, they look most powerful of all the paths. Especially when it comes to singletarget damage. Where's the catch? Literally haven't met ingame anyone who even tried archery path. Have you tried it? If yes, what are your thoughts about it?
Archery does have good looking feats but the biggest problem with its long range playstyle is it will often be left out of potent buffs like DC's Divine Glow, Break The Spirit and Forgemaster's Flame and sometimes, GF's ITF. The single target dmg from Aimed Shot is indeed impressive but as an Archer, u would have to choose between standing at max distance from target to get the most out of self-buff or go mid-range to receive buffs from allies. To achieve high dps, a high burst dmg (GWF), a high and numerous dmg-overtime (dot) (CW), or a combination of both is needed. Archery only has high burst on single target and no dot. For the single target, u would have to take into an account the time for the projectile to travel the long distance to reach a target VS GWF's swinging away at point blank. Stillness of the Forest is nice to have but the bonus is easy to lose when fighting mobs because HR has an abnormal aggro rate. To top it all off, the capstone only works on one target at a time, so the spec is competitively viable only in a specific situation. I have mentioned something like this a few times but this is my take on Archery.
I did try out Archery briefly to confirm my evaluation of it. I'll probably try it out some more in the future when I get really bored.
hey thx 4 the inspiration,
Maybe u can give us an idea of which enchantments do you run in your companion gear 4 trapper
Peace
For my companion, I go with duo and triple stats enchants, Brutal on offence and Black Ice on defense. Cruel is good too if you already have high lifesteal. HP doesn't transfer over with Companion Gift from Bonding Runestones, keep that in mind.
thx man, its working out really good on ps4 too, when i am ready i sent u a link
Hey Sume! First of all thanks for this amazing video and build! I'm still following the build and works perfectly. I have a small doubt. First is do you still think Dex belt is better at this moment for a Trapper? and I see you are using Ring of Sudden Precision instead of Ring of Rising Precision, why is that? Good day to you mate!
Thank You!
As long as the Orcus is still bugged with the major sources of Trapper's dmg, the Dex belt will continue to be better in my eyes. With the release of recent artifacts with culmilatively higher stats , having the freedom to equip any in all four slots is a very welcome flexibility.
I kinda gave up trying to get the +5 Rising Precision so +5 Sudden is the next best thing, but that is only for Combat with the -10% crit chance. Now I'm using Rising Power and Brutality and let the potions and boons, namely the Baphomet's Might, to carry the chance to 100%.
Well im working on dex belt now. Thanks for the reply! Cheers! Ill buy a beer one day for you man. Good day! Btw have you tried paranoid delusion companion with trapper?
Hey nice vid mate.
I havent played for a while, logged on today and i felt like Longstrider's shot was different, it wasnt refreshing the whole CD of melee skills as it used to do... Did they do any change to this skill?
Swiftness of Fox feat no longer multiprocs with some encounters. At 5/5, you would only get 15% cd reduction per encounter/at-will/daily usage. In other words, they fixed the way the trapper's cd reduction feat work with all skills.
What is that armor fashion and color you are wearing? It looks awesome!
Just regular +4 blue rarity chest of something. Headgear is another low lvl item that can be bought from an NPC vendor in PE, DC dye with red applied on top of it for those. Gloves and boots are transmutes from PvP Burning gears.
when the next video ??: P unless you are doing something in combat ^^
yo, what was ur initial stat roll and what points u put into what?
What's better; Stormwarden or Pathfinder?
Hey question, how do you get in and out like that so fast? Does it come in time from playing the class that you just find a way too?
Definitely! I only main 2 classes: HR and GF. The more you focus on a class and the more you push yourself to get better (not playing with elite players all the time but struggle to pull less-geared players through the game content), the more likely you will develop a class proficiency, in my case at least :D
should I go brutal on every offence slot or maybe i could change? Btw whats the weapon and armor enchants you're currently using and think its viable for pve generally (pvp too maybe)
u get more stats from using dual and triple stats enchants, so brutal and its power/crit stat is what I use in most offence slots with the other being azure to get closer to 100% crit chance. Vorpal for combat and Dread for trapper. Soulforged or Negation in armor slot for both. This is very much viable in pvp but Feytouched will be a bit more useful in higher lvl of competition.
Thanks bro, I already got my vorpal im running trapper but it seems okay so far, I mostly am top score when doing esot with 2.1k gs. Also waiting for new artifact weapons cuz im using tendril of the golden dragon level 60 artifact weapon i had from a long time ago so I gotta farm for an artifact weapon now, what do you think of the current ones and the new ones to come? (relic etc.)
What is the style for the head piece you have on?
You have any suggestion on a pvp build? I run a build suited for pvp, its almost complete. I dropped my vorpal for dread enchant as well and seen tremendous gains. I have build on my channel, let me know what you think.
hey do you switch stance everytime just to enpower constricted arrow. or. after you ls > constrict arrow then switch stance. then coa?
LSS > Constricting as much as possible. Using CoA is optional since its charges will run out in a long fight but it should also be used within the LSS buff window along with PG and GW. Stance switching should be done every 3 sec or so (switch back again if not fully done with the rotation in that stance) to stay buffed from feats and an off-hand bonus.
Hey Sume, I just reached 70 and since the lifesteal change do you think its worth it for HR trapper to go lifesteal? what stats should prioritise? can you put it in order?
For Trapper build and priority of stats, check my Mod 9 Trapper build video. Lifesteal is going to be the most vital stat to survive without the need for a healer, try to get it to about 10-20%.
I don't know if you've shown this in a previous video (or this one, I kinda skimmed through), but how are you able to heal yourself so much while in battle?
BeEazy dc's and lifesteal
BeEazy Lifestyle and the bard companion.
Greetings,
I, was trapper on mod 6, retired, came back on mod 10 building a combat(liked that, awesome surv.).
Btw, you see a big difference beetween trapper and combat, in terms of overall dps, or is short?
(edit for greetings :D)
Top question asked for sure about dps potential of Trapper VS Combat. Like I mentioned before, Trapper does more dmg over time while Combat has high burst dmg. The longer the fight, the more dmg Trapper will do over Combat, especially if the target moves around a lot like Drufi.
combate HR or trapper for high damage ? your opinion
Would it be bad if i dont go full trapper? I put 3/5 in the crit sev feat in combat and put 2/5 in aspect of serpent damn shouldve put it into ancient roots
I've been watching your videos for quite a while now, ive used the same standard set up for trapper, CA, FS, PG, but ive noticed that after mod 10 released my Melee power take far to long to recharge, I have to use 1 or 2 sometimes 3 at wills to recharge my powers. This is a problem as it lowers my DPS, would the changes that they did on the trapper feats have affected my cooldowns?
The changes with the Swiftness of the Fox feat definitely has an impact on the encounter spam rate of Trapper HR, so incorporate at-wills and quick daily like the Disruptive Shot to keep the rotation going. Having high crit rate to proc Trapper's Cunning/Forestbond combo helps too. Instead of all encounters like before, there will be a short break between each rotation. The DPS might be lower or the rotation might feel less fluid but they did increase Thorned Roots dmg by a bit. Hopefully, u'll get used to the new Trapper's cd reduction mechanic and do well again in putting out dmg like before or close to ^_^
thank you
What artifact powers you use with weapons
if you know the archons don't stack their damage properly then is it good to refrain from trying to stack them with 2 of them being fire and air archon which I feel give the best bonuses
Yes, you're right, but Earth Archon is also a very good choice. Keeping HP full to get the active bonus uptime high is not hard at all, especially if the tank initiates the fight and holds aggro for the party. Most people use Fire Archon as summoned so that stays. Air, Earth and Fire are definitely the keepers.
Do you pvp, or will you in m17?)
Hello Sume, needed some advices for my hr trapper build, i'm struggling alot right now cause i'm not having the same dps i was used to have before mod10. Now i'm running pathfinder full trapper with AOTS and seeker's vengeance as features and using Cordon of arrows, longstrider and costricting arrow. I now i'm only 2.8k IL but still i had much more dps when i was at 2.6k before mod 10. What would you suggest me to do?
Forgot to mention that I'm using rapid shot and hunter's teamwork as at-wills.
Seems like u do have the necessary loadout to put out dmg but gears matter a lot, especially bonding runestones and SH boons. I don't know how else I can help you if you already watched my videos. Experience comes with time and practice, perhaps some hands-on training would help I guess.
It's weird cause the drop of dps happened after mod10, allthough i did follow your advice to change to pathfinder after mod10.
Not sure if this was asked before, but I can't seem to find it:
You don't run an artifact set it seems (baphomet talisman, belt of dex, no lostmauth horn or orcus shard). Is there a specific reason why?
It's a matter of choosing which ones are for u. There aren't much of a difference between a DEX belt and the LM set. DEX is HR's primary attribute and u get a bit more of this bonus dmg from Disciple of DEX feat which more or less equates to the set bonus dmg from LM. The Orcus shard is very expensive for higher dmg boost and I didn't have it because of that reason. Now I'm using the set because a special person gave it to me as a gift. In summary: Orcus set > DEX belt without set bonus > LM set.
I'm running LM set and I was contemplating dropping the belt for DEX belt, however it seemed like a waste of resources for a negligible change. Thanks for confirming.
Can't say I didn't expect Orcus set to be a definitive upgrade over those, ha. Out of reach for me at this point in time but something to work towards to. Thanks for replying.
what build would you recommend for a mostly pvp ranger with pve on the side? i just pve for the ad daily bonus but dont want to be bottom of the barrel in dps either. thx in advance
I recommend to go Pathfinder Combat. That's what most PvP HRs are nowadays and the build can do very well in PvE...better than Stormwarden on single target.
Why pathfinder over stormwarden? Are you over blade storm completely? Seems like it still offers a ton of damage fairly quickly. I'd love to see your pro/con list on pathfinder vs stormwarden
Perform very fast rotations .. You use the standard settings Keyboard controls ?? or maybe you have some extra button assigned to the jump, Tab, Shift ??
Yes, I use the standard keys for the jump, tab and shift. I've been playing with this default setup for so long that I'm just used to it.
T. Suwantemee Playing this fast and being able to jump around like you do is almost impossible on console, might have to try getting an elite controller so I can jump easier.
hey do i havr to use erineye? hbu siege master?
Is here any way you can place this build somewhere with screen shots of powers and feats? And what skills you are using? I get confused just reading it off video I'm barely coming back to the game on Xbox and want to main am HR I'll be running with a Trans vorpal, (edit) should I sell my trans Vorpal for a trans Dread?
I change back and forth between Trapper and Combat easily and often as I have both weapon enchants. Their ideal weapon enchants are different, but you can do well with Vorpal on Trapper, keep it if you ever plan to try out the Combat tree in the future. If not then go for Dread because it's best-in-slot for Trapper.
As for your other question: No, I don't plan on making any written official HR guide, sorry. There are plenty out there already so I feel it's quite redundant. I make these videos for fun when I'm bored and have extra free time. That's about it :P
Are you using Trans Dread enchantment ? If so then what's the reason? Isn't the Trans Vorpal Enchantment better for HR? Because the vorpal is good for the DPS classes, and basically the HR is a good DPS
Dread good for encounter powers
2clutch4tv what armor enchantment is he using?
Soulfordge enchantment
Will you be making more HR content soon ?
Also whats your gear transmutes your Toon looks amazing.
More videos? Yes. Soon? Hmmmm, right now I don't feel like making more at the moment :/ Noooooo don't copy my looks :( Transmute gears are low lvl head and armor. Burning PvP gears for arms and legs.
Anyone know the hood he has in this video. Looks amazing
how are you getting enough astral diamonds to respec your feats and boons all the time?
its called preview server, respec is free
wat did u reroll
Strongold boons please!?
How would i find a damage breakdown like this is it a program?
Yes, what u're looking for is Advanced Combat Tracker. Googling that with Neverwinter should get u to the right place.
PvE Trapper HR Longstrider Playstyle Mod 10 in this build would have any changes in this 10.5 patch? If I could make an update because I follow his build in ps4 and I think too much of the time .... and badly for the translation use google translator ^^ vlw and a Brazilian hug ^^
hey is disruptive shot for single target? cause i see you use it in ur combo. can you explain why?
Disruptive Shot is a nice quick 15% cd reduction for Trapper and it can be conveniently used to help with cd management while going thru the rotation. Also if u use Shepherd's Devotion insignia bonus like I do, then it's also a quick and easy way to proc the bonus.
Oohkay alright i see how about forest ghost does that help cd your other stuff when you use it an do you prefer disruptive shot over forest ghost... Or does. Disruptive shot do the same thing....
Because i can Ls. Constrict. Pg then forest ghosh. You do the same with disruptive shot... Will your encounter. Cd at the same speed if. I use disruptive shot
Currently. FG is bugged and multiprocs Swiftness of the Fox feat per each hit of its duration. With that being said, DS takes much less time and AP to cast than FG. Because it is a ranged daily, DS will also help with building melee AotS stacks for PG and GW.
is it necessary to stack recovery and what defensive stats should i stack more
As a Trapper, recovery is an undesirable stat due to Swiftness of the Fox. Once lifesteal is at a sufficient amount (15-20%), HP is commonly suggested as the next defensive stat to focus on but as for me, I recommend to stack 3 of the 4 possible stats at the same time via duo or triple stat enchantments like black ice, draconic, and giant. HP is normally given from gears and the range of 120k - 140k is enough to survive in most of the game's content provided u have a decent amount of defense to back that up.
how important is deflection because i heard that is pretty useful also?
Deflection is a major factor to my HR's survivability as can be seen in my solo videos. Besides incoming damage, it can mitigate the duration of control effects and to a negative but lesser extent, incoming healing spells.
What is better in pve damage wise? Trapper or combat?
They excel under a certain condition, but overall, Trapper is slightly better than Combat in terms of dmg output and usefulness from group utilities. A more detailed answer will have to come from your own experience, give both a try!
I have given both a try.i currently main combat but was considering trapper. I see more burst damage from combat and see it do better than trappers my item level. I understand trapper has its benefits from not being upclose though and dots tick hsrd. Right now i think combat is better but trying to verify
aspect to the pack class feature in off- hand its doesent work?? really??
Yes, I tested it again and again and it still doesn't work :(
51mil ad
is your cloak a transmutaion and what is it
Yes, Cloak of the Erupting Volcano.
thanks :)
but how do you get it??
neverwinter.gamepedia.com/Transmutation#Transmutable_Items_With_Unique_Looks
This cloak is no longer available as a drop. The only place left to get it is to buy from AH :)
there is no one one the AH on Ps4 do you know one cloak that is cool looking and that you can get
so would you say trapper easily beats out combat?
Trapper
In summary, the longer the fight goes on, the more dmg a Trapper will outdo a Combat.
awesome thanks. I appreciate everything you've done over time.
Combat or traper is best?
Trapper is best for now.
My combat hr is over perfoming gwf, not a single time a gwf have deal at least half of my damage when they are the same item lvl.
The same goes for trapper, if you talking gear score. How ever i have been toe to toe with a Bis Gwf who was 300 points higher then me and lost at the last moment due to messing up my rotation. In a long battle trappers win hands down.
Sume are u still alive
Yessssss, alive and well. I've been feeling really lazy so no new videos yet. I'm actually planning to push one out either this weekend or the next...
T. Suwantemee just was making sure u didn't leave the game like alot of endgame players XD, good to hear ur still around :D
No prot.camaraderie? No assasins covenant? Hmmm...
Protector's Camaraderie doesn't work with my bard companion. I build my HR to be versatile because I often pug dungeons and end up carrying lower gear players through. Therefore, glass cannon build with Assassin Covenant is not something I would want to use.
