Inside Aleppo: Can the city be rebuilt?

  • We went to Aleppo to see how the city is trying to be rebuilt, after rebels left the city at the start of the year.
    Meanwhile, the US and Russia have reached a ceasefire deal in south-west Syria, one they say could be replicated elsewhere in the country. But that won’t include Raqqa, where militants from the Islamic State group have been fighting back against advancing US-backed Kurdish and Arab forces, as they move closer to the centre. Tens of thousands of people are trapped inside the old city, with dwindling food and water supplies.

    They make it seen like the elderly lady could not leave because the Syrian government did not let her by blocking roads. I think she could not leave because the "moderate" rebels did not want civilians (human shield) to leave. In my opinion, the best part of this segment was when the reporter interviewed the MP.

    • @grinningchicken
      @grinningchicken Před 7 lety +32

      Exactly she said "they." "They" are the rebels who barred people from leaving even opening fired on with machine guns and mortars when people tried to leave.

      Yep. Anyone following the Aleppo story from Russian and the "West" side knows a more balanced realistic view of the situation. Pretty clear that she couldn't leave because the so-called "moderate rebels" backed by US coalition was blocking them.

    Aleppo an ancient city destroyed. I have met people from there in Germany. They lost everything. I have also met people from Homs, 1 a 22 year old fit young man was crippled by a barrel bomb which blew his friends arms and legs off. Hassan managed to escape with his family, he will spend the rest of his life in a wheelchair and faces many more operations. Just spent 6 months in a German Language Course with him and 14 other Syrians from Aleppo, Damascus and Homs. They all want to go back. They said Assad was ok. They said they lived good lives under him. A secular government. The man at the end of the video is right we should keep our bloody noses out of their countries.

      Assad was never okay.
      A secular government: A government that preallocates positions based on sectarian considerations.
      They lived good lives under him: The majority of the Syrian population lived in poverty. I'm Lebanese and we're basically reliant on a Syrian workforce that numbers around 400 000~ for everything from construction to filling major gaps in the services sector. The Lebanese get to exploit that workforce by providing substantially lower pay to Syrians. Something around 300$/month would have been an average salary for a Syrian construction worker back in 2007. A salary and work opportunity that these 400 000 ( a substantial proportion of the entire Syrian workforce ) Syrians could not find in Syria. This has been the model followed ever since the post civil war construction period. Thats to say nothing of the drought period of 2007 onwards where millions of Syrians farmers were forced into the cities in search of non existent work opportunities.

      I was making a falsy definition to highlight the discrepancy between the narrative that gets pedalled and reality on the ground. The secular government being the narrative and the definition of that secular government. The definition highlighting how that same supposedly secular government is reliant on sectarianism to exist and function. Anything else you need spoonfed?

You did not even pursue and allow the woman to elaborate on how the Nusra Terrorist would not allow her to leave when the government corridors to safety were open, and you interrupted and cut off the speaker when he was stating the facts that East Aleppo was held by Nusra Terrorist. What investigative journalist tries to keep the truth from the public? You do not deserve to be called a journalist. You owe the citizens of Aleppo an official apology for legitimizing and enabling their kidnappers by not reporting that they were actually being held by terrorist. Not as it is translated We are a generation (who faced poverty ) he said this in Arabic (نحن جيل ينقصه الفكر(وليس الفقر ) poverty is sounds like knowledge in Arabic as in English for example when say (Hi) it sounds like saying (High). There was no poverty as it meant in Syria a person works in Syria could rise a family some education, medicine and health, and many supply things were supported by the gov. so they were free a specialty regarding health , retirement and etc.

    Twisted edits may lead to different understanding of the many interviews, clearly some edits pushed toward underlining blame on the Syrian Government, where the reality is very different, there wasn't and there ins't any rebel in Syria, just paid terrorists and mercenaries. The sooner UK, US and French citizens realize that the sooner they will be able to change their current regimes in power. Syria's future is for Syrians to decide.

      If Russia is gonna pony-up the 370*10E9 US$ for the "marshal plan" it takes to rebuild Syria. Otherwise no. There's a fundamental difference between Germany 1945 and Syria 2018. 1945 was a war between countries - 2018 is a civil war. Germany got over the war with 80% of it's industrial capacity intact (just needed to rebuild roads, bridges, rails, and some homes). Syria barely had any industrial capacity before the war, and after - most of what they had is gone 4ever. Economic sanctions are imposed. Extensive destruction to the entire infrastructure network - such as electricity and water. No irrigation in a dry part of the world. Over 50% of oil wells in Kurdish hands. Even if A$$ad survives this war - which looks more likely - he will have massive difficulties clinging to power. Let alone paying back the Russians for their "help".
