As I noted in the beginning of the vid, I was sick when recording the commentary for this run, so I apologize if my voice sounds hoarse or I sound congested.
The speedrun of Fallout 3 is one of my favorites, but I've never posted a personal best of mine with heavy commentary thoroughly explaining the run. It's a pretty straightforward and easy to follow run once you know the basics, but the problem is the basics are a bit esoteric. My intentions with this video are to show via heavy commentary that Fallout 3 is a pretty fast paced and fun run, especially from the point where you enter Little Lamplight until the end.

@@JRexRegis it wouldnt normally. the game was never meant to be completed like this. normally james would have flooded the chamber with radiation to prevent the colonel from taking control of the operation, and that is why you have to die to go in and enter the code

7:51 - When I first bought Fallout 3 in 2008, I had just started college. I was playing the game in front of all my classmates during a break and in wandering, the second building I entered was Casey's garage and found my dad. I was pretty pissed that I somehow skipped half the game.
Dr. Rhomboid Goatcabin I found fallout 3 so overwhelming when it was released and everyone just told me to just explore and don’t worry about the quests. Skipped so much of the game without ever realizing it until my second play through.
Yeah pretty much my only complaint about fo3 is that you MUST play through once so you know which content to skip.

I really don't understand people who claim any% is stupid, or isn't worth watching. It's honestly a better category because there's no arguing over what a "glitch" actually is, it's just beat the game as fast as you can by any means necessary.

@Ibrahim Najm well your only restriction is what the game engine allows, if a glitch makes you clip through walls and run sanic fast its allowed, but console commands or other outside mods or cheats are not allowed

Generally anything goes as long as it can be done with button presses.
allot of people (me included) don't understand at that point what the difference is in using glitches or just console commands.

edit: ive been asked a handful of times to make tomatoanus "merch" to sell for anyone interested. i dont really like the idea of selling stuff but caved when i came up with a shirt design that i feel comfortable with selling. there's a link in the description to the teespring page where you can buy a shirt or hoodie if youre interested. i still dont really feel comfortable with charging people a lot of money for the shirts, so i set the price to $15 for tshirts and $25 for hoodies (default price for tshirts is $23 and hoodies is $39). im not gonna be advertising the shirts in any of my videos, but at least wanted to leave a comment so people would be aware of the existence of the shirts. thanks.

it worked for me when i crippled one leg somewhat? hopping on the other leg and swinging forward with the crutches to keep up momentum is fun
if you can quicksave and quickload at the right time of course

Yes but only works with the latest patch Obama care. If done correctly if you do a micro fracture in your leg it can heal itself and somehow be stronger so you can use more force (walking) in your legs. It's op at times but sitting down gets hard

Really enjoy your commentary and explanations, even for the more general knowledge stuff. Really helpful for folks (like me) who aren't familiar with a lot of the nuances and techniques. I gotta say, I love the names people come up with for the different techniques, like stophopping and cliffcripple, they're so blunt and direct that they're kind of hilarious.
Hey man, I hope you read this - I come back and watch this video whenever I remember it or youtube recommends it. I played the ever loving fuwck out of this game when it was released and it's awesome to see it played it a completely different way. Your explanations throughout the run are really compressive and satisfying and it's a joy to watch it over and over again.
Daily reminder : comparing Any% and glitchless is like comparing apples and oranges. Any% players train to bend the games mechanics while glitchless trains to do it using the mechanics as intended

I'm impressed the game behaved itself long enough for you to do the run. FO3 is one of the crashiest games I've ever played, even with all the stability fixes and unofficial patches.

finished my first playthrough and must I completely agree with you and say it was a literal crash simulator, even after putting more times into trying to fix the mods than actually playing the game I gave up trying and my crash count was easily in the 100s. It was so demotivating but I managed to finish it and loved the game overall, I know I could have just disabled mods but no thanks
That's probably why it crashed so much
i hate people who complain about glitches in speed running. it's called SPEED RUNNING. which means getting the game done as fast as possible. just because you grew up and died over and over in games and failed all the time playing the game the way devs meant it to be played doesn't mean you take out that anger on a guy who beat the game for fun in a speed run using glitches.
Most people who dont approve of glitching are offended by the claim for glory which is implied when a poster uploads a video with a time limit. As if to say, "I can do this faster than you." It doesnt make either side correct. It just means some people care a little too much about what others think. Personally, I enjoy any speedrun because meta gaming is more fun to me.
I prefer glitchless because its interesting to me to see them playing the game as fast and effeciently as possible with intended mechanics. Im sure a lot of other folks probably think the same way.
@@keysersose3773 I'm pro glitched runs; I want to see the game done as fast as possible without limitations. There is the additional problem of 'intended' being a bit nebulous in some games. However no matter the position the people yelling at runners for a specific run is never cool.
@@randomusermaximuss Agreed. I like glitched runs as well. But my love for games and game design gives me a bigger drive to see them done glitchless out of curiosity. Take MGS for instance, with glitched you miss out on so much of the game, i find it unfortunate since its an absolute masterpiece. But yeah, people bitching about the run on a video is pointless and ignorant, but what can you do.
