  • Somehow, The Lego Movie is already 10 years old. So what was the legacy it had? Clearly making massive waves in the animation industry at the time, and spinning off into all sorts of sequels after. But what about now? 10 years later and where is the Lego franchise going? And was it really as successful as it first seemed? Come join me as I divulge the history of Lego Movies, Warner Brothers and Universal as studios, and a surprise new Lego announcement in a whole new format. The Lego Movie understood its audience more than most. It's all in the details; the real registry numbers from the kits, Benny and his aesthetic being a callback to the first Lego Space set from the 80's, and even the blink and you'll miss it Bionicle reference.

The crossovers of different characters from different universe is amazing. Because its literally how you play with Legos, you put a bunch of random character on a huge set and just played with it. I mean I remember putting my Lego Gandalf in the Lego Batmobile 😂

I got the same sort of vibe from the Mario movie. Despite just being kinda "eh" on its own merits as a film, it was SO clearly made with love by people who know the franchise and wanted to do it justice. I lost count of all the "holy cow, I can't believe they referenced THAT" moments by the time it was over.

The Lego Movie still remains one of my favourite animated movies, not just because I grew up with Lego, but also because it was more than just a commercial film, it was a heartfelt, well written and passionate celebration of the power of imagination and creativity that made the childhoods of countless people, including myself.

The most impressive thing to me was how they used real pieces for almost everything. Playing the lego games when I was younger, there were a lot of scenes that were not fully "lego". Like the floors and other materials were generic. Like a muddy floor texture to represent a jungle floor. They didn't have the iconic studs LEGO on them. The movie had these pretty much everywhere I can think of. Imagine rendering all of those pieces. Impressive

This movie could have easily been a soulless cashgrab. But there was genuine love and care put into this.
It really goes to show that even the most bizarre or dumb-sounding idea for a film (or any piece of media for that matter) can work great if it's done right.

Making the Minecraft movie live action was a huge mistake.
The Minecraft movie being live action is like adapting Harry Potter and making it a sci-if space thriller; Minecraft is inherently cartoony; it is a 16 bit 3d open world sandbox survival game, making it live action is a bad idea since that just won’t work.
It’s sad to see how little Hollywood values animation, they treat it like this disgusting thing that is only good for cheap slop for kids or trying to compete with Disney (which I don’t know why you would want to copy them, since they are driving themselves into the ground).
I really think we are on the brink of an Animation and entertainment renaissance, as it becomes more accessible and affordable to make your own productions independently from mega-corporations.

A big problem I have with the lego ninjago movie is that it didn't respect the original series. I didn't play with Lego or toys much but when The Lego Movie came out I was in awe by the visuals
Made me want to go back to playing with Legos
I even tried to be a "master builder" by making anything out of well anything
I would get my parents to buy buildings, airplanes and helicopters etc
Now most parents would get annoyed by how much toys they're kid is getting and would say "you've got alot of toys at home"
But when I was 9 I didn't care for my toys and gave pretty much most of em away and started playing video games my parents always tried to get me to go out and play with my friends or sometimes ask if I wanna buy a toy but I always declined
When I told them I wanna get Legos from the Lego Movie they were surprised and thrilled I wanna do something other than video games
Even my best friend wanted to play with Legos as well
Now I have a daughter who's 5 and likes to play with my Legos that I still have to this day
Luckily she doesn't put any in her mouth 😂 she likes to build even if it takes a while
    She's a very smart girl

The LEGO movie 2 is genuinely a good sequel that logically follows on from the original and is fun in its own way. Is it as good as the first one? No, but that doesn't stop it from still being great, and it's sad that it's probably the last we'll see of those kinds of LEGO movies. The LEGO movies were like their own mini-genre of animation that still had so much potential for more stories imo, especially parodying existing IPs like in the LEGO Batman movie. Even the Ninjago movie had good bits I really enjoyed, so it's a shame we won't see more films like them.

ya know, I just gotta wonder, if they had advertised the Lego Ninjago Movie as a parody of Ninjago with the Lego movie humor instead of just leaving people confused what it was; if it would've gone over better, like a movie making the kinds of jokes about Ninjago that the Lego Batman Movie made about batman? that sounds pretty cool! but when the Lego Ninjago movie was coming out I was just annoyed with it, it seemed Ninjago was changing again, and making it stupid, and wrecking continuity, so I was mad at it, but if I knew it was a parody from the start? I can't help but think I would've been more receptive of it, but who knows...

  • @zendpixie
    @zendpixie Před 2 měsíci +3

god, I'm going to miss these characters so much... I feel like what primarily killed the second lego movie was the utter lack of marketing, being released on the same day as HTTYD3, and the time gap you mentioned yourself - instead of making the film more for older audiences that grew up since the first movie (which WOULD also fit with the second movie's theme), it feels like it's even more for kids than the first one, despite both being PG-rated. Maybe it's all the "systarian" enviornments consisting of Duplos and LEGO Friends, who knows. But I have to say I did really like the second movie as well - maybe it wasn't as good as the original, but that's a GIANT bar to leap over as the first lego movie was astronomically good. The second one is also great, but in the context of being a sequel to the legendary lego movie, it falls a little more flat than it should in places. I've seen mixed opinions online - some love it, some find it "meh", and most people don't even know it existed. Personally, I don't think it deserves nearly as much flack as it got - definitely doesn't deserve to have the same RottenTomato score as "Ralph Wrecks The Internet"....eugh

The Franchise is awesome, and I love it! I do hope we see more project's that focus on the romance between Emmet and Lucy. I love them so much!

I loved that movie, i loved the 3DS game, and i never played with any LEGO before.
It was what i wished it to be, a fun adventure, an insane crossover, nothing about modern-day politics, and great characters.
Was that so hard to make?

Sorry Dazz, they DID NOT name drop the MCU. Idk what Earth-199999 is but it isn’t the canon designation for the MCU. The canon designation is 616. So if Miguel is trying to state that 199999 is the MCU, then technically, HE’S the one breaking canon! lol!!!!!

“Emmet and Star Lord in the same universe”
…I’m pretty sure that isn’t how that works.

I think the 5 year gap between the Lego movie 1 and 2 is fine seeing as the Lego movie 2 happens 5 years after the 1st anyway, with Batman taking place just after the first Lego movie
