Barbie The Welder is an American metal sculptor, published author of six books, and an advocate for the skilled trades from Pompano Beach, Florida.
Growing up in a deeply creative home, Barbieâs Mom is a published cartoonist and her Dad a jack of all trades, Barbie was encouraged by both parents to work with her hands and mind to create. Inspired by the movie Cast Away, starring Tom hanks, Barbie attended an adult welding program at Elmira, New York Boces in November 2007 and was hired at Cameron Manufacturing And Design in Horseheads, New York in March 2008 where she learned the art of welding and fabrication from the brilliant craftsman she worked with. Barbie took her fabrication skills home and taught herself how to design and create art in her garage after work at night and on the weekends.
Barbie quit her job she loved to realize her dream and become a full-time artist September 1, 2014.
Because of the influence Bob Ross had on her growing up, Barbie began teaching how to weld art through her CZcams channel in 2015 after not being able to find resources to learn.
Soon after she was invited by a publisher to write a book teaching how to weld art, and How To Weld Horseshoe Art; 30 Projects You Can Easily Weld At Home was born. Barbie went on to write and self publish five more books, How To Weld Scrap Metal Art; 30 Easy Welding Projects You Could Make At Home, How To Weld Silverware Animals Metal Art Welding Projects For Fun and Profit, The Inspiration Blueprint; How To Design and Create Your Inspired Life, Fuck You Fuel; How To Turn Shit Into Sugar, and The Artist Guide To Branding, Marketing and Selling Art Online.
Working with Bogi Latiner for a month in 2017 on Bogiâs Girl Gang Garage all womanâs frame up build of a 57 Chevy pick up later unveiled at Sema became a mentorship for Barbie that continues to help her grow herself and her business. Barbies other inspirations include Indian Larry and Billy Lane both who caught her attention through the TV series biker build off in early 2000. The craftsmanship and creativity of both men spoke to her soul.
Barbie started out riding on the gas tank of her dadâs Honda motorcycle because she was too little to hold on sitting behind him, so when she was asked by Jesse James Dupree, lead singer of Jackyl, to design and create two sculptures for Harley Davidson she jumped at the chance driving the 24 hours to Sturgis by herself from NY and sculpting HOGs 35th anniversary sculpture live at Sturgis motorcycle rally at the Pappy Hoyle Campground and then she returned home to sculpt Harley Davidsonâs 115th anniversary sculpture in her garage which was later presented to Harley Davidson on stage during the Jackyl concert at the 115 anniversary celebration in Milwaukee.
Barbie has welded live at Americade Motorcycle Rally, SEMA show in Vegas for Miller Welders, Harley Davidsons 115th Anniversary, and at shows and events up and down the east coast.
Barbie has designed and created sculptures for Miller Welders, the American Welding Society, Chicago Pneumatic, Carolina Shoe Company, two cities and clients in many countries.

Great and Creative work !!!
Thank you kindly!
There might be other ways to do it but your work is always awesome and are beautiful pieces of art every time !
Thank you so very much for the love!
How do you come up with all these ideas? You must have a seriously cool imagination, and a hell of a lot of patience.. just the time alone on grinding and polishing your pieces.
I found your channel only recently, now I'm hooked. I love how you explain your process and show how to build these projects.
You're seriously one cool chick.
I dream them up. It's practice. I think about sculpting all the time so stuff just comes to me!
New female welder here. So nice to see another woman representing the trade so beautifully. We have the same taste in more "spooky" kinds of art as well. Subbed đ
Welcome to the wonderful world of welding!!!
Most people look at a bucket full of scrap and that is all they see. It takes a special person with imagination and a welder to turn it into art. You are a very talented young lady and I really enjoy your videos. Thank you for posting. Kenny
+gmctrk63 Thank you for your kind words and for taking the time to watch my video!
gmctrk63, It is the same with old or broken equipment. Years ago, I had to cut up a couple of old soccer goals at the school where I work. Well those pieces of square tubing have ended up in projects all over the school, including in my welding bay, a work bench and a metal materials rack. You take what ever is in front of you and mentally disassemble it back into its component parts. It's just that the material is no longer is saleable lengths of new steel and may also have paint and rust to be ground back.
Lot of people also look at a bucket of scrap and try to visualize how much they can get for it at the scrap yard. You are very talented Barbie, I'm afraid my welding is for construction only, not a pretty site lots of grinding sanding and paint lol.
Very informative! Thanks!!!!!
Awesome
The little flap disks look great, how does it attach to the base, it looked like you twisted it on somehow?! Where do you get them from?
Cool job. Very creative
Thank you kindly!
Ha! Sandford & Son, I named my little dump truck Sandford because it looks like that's where I bought it (yes it's mechanically near perfect, no I'm not gonna wash the moss off the hood). Just found your channel, weldingtipsandtricks sent me here. You've got some pretty awesome stuff going on! Been watching all night.
Beautiful and talented... Teach me
Thank you.
I watch your videos and I feel the need to get my everlast welder out and make something!
Go make stuff!!đ

a couple suggestions you should put your website link a link to buy your book and your social media link in the description of all your videos, so when someone watches your videos they can easily find them by clicking the links. like the videos and keep rockin.
+Andrew Allan Guitars I went back and put that information into every video description. Thank you kindly for the support and great advice!!đđ

+Edwin L thanks for taking the time to watch the video!!
Fantastica Barbie!!! đđđđ
Thank you!!!
You made me laugh twice, once when you stuck out your tongue regarding sanitation, and then with the "wrecked 'im, damn near killed him!" I love that joke.
I like your statue, and your sense of humor. I'm subscribingđđ
Really nice work
Thank you kindly!!!
That is awesome have one holding a welding stinger and a grinder .. the death welder.. lol
đ
Barbie, Iâm working on a life size deer. Didnât realize the amount of welding I was going yo have to do!
I have a question about the grinding disc you use. I found that my 4 1/2â flapper takes off way more than the grinding disc. So where do you get grinding discs that will hog off material fast? Thanks.
very cool piece keep up the good work !
+Donald Cyr Thank you!
+Donald Cyr Thank you!!
Hello Barbie the welder, maybe useful for next time to add subtitles. This can also be done automatically (this option isn't always great, but better than nothing). Iâm hard of hearing and need text to understand. Also useful for international viewers (whatever I am). Nice work! I still have a lot to learn. âșïž
Skilled.
Burr bits at HF? Nice!
I share the same metal hoarding habits, basically a metal miser, nothing gets thrown away. I have a large metal fab shop not far away where I buy metal that lets me raid their scrap dumpster from time to time.Came back this morning from there with about 90lbs of odds and ends.
+customprc totally a treasure hunt!! I'm in the local scrap yard buying stuff when everyone else is in there cashing in!đ
customprc. as I said to gmctrk63, it is all in the way you look at things.
Hellooooo Barbie!!! đ Lol. I am a welder and metal fabricator who has been doing it professionally for 15 years. I specialize in aluminum. I too make metal sculptures. So far you are the only person I have found that makes them in a similar fashion to me. I TIG weld my sculptures one drop at a time out of 5356 aluminum filler wire. On some of the larger ones I start with some random pieces of pipe sheet metal and solid bar stock. But most of the smaller ones are strictly filler wire and for the most part I try not to do any grinding or sanding. I finish off the majority of my artwork with only the Heat from the TIG torch. I will have to email you some pictures of my artwork and get your opinion. I would love to focus more on my artwork and try to make enough money selling my sculptures so that I could turn it into my main source of income. I have a hard time pricing them though. I would love to get your opinion on their value. Being that you are a professional metal sculptor and all. Anyway I just wanted to let you know that I am very impressed with your talents and keep up the good work. Also it is very nice to see a female welder. And a very beautiful one at that. By the way my name is Pete and I live in Florida. I will Make it a point to try and send you some pictures of my artwork within the next day or so.
I am also a welder since 19 years I also made many small projects but never recorded them..but lady you inspired me lot...thanks
when them sparks were flying I was wondering if it was gonna burn her hair
Hello Barbie try using a stick welding rod for your gaps it's
Called Mig Tig stick please try
This remove fluckes
Nice! I use 1/4â rod for filler đ€đ»đ€Ł
Sanford and Son? How many people caught that reference?
+Duane Campbell đ
I did!!! :)
Good video.
Thank you! âșïžâĄïžâ€ïžâđ„đ©đ»âđ
Wish you lived around my area. I would love to hang out in a welding shop with you and your imagination. You are my kind of woman...

You're very welcome! :)
You have a very good eye for what to make and that's the part that can't be taught. Please buy a fume extractor soon if you don't have one. I bought a used Miller on ebay and have about 800 bucks in it. You will live longer and be much heathier.
+garybrayart Gary Bray Thank you for your kind words and concern for my health!! I do have an industrial fume extractor above my bench but don't run it when I video because of the noise.
Cool channel
Thank you kindly Max!!đ„°
Legal muito bom.
Somebody, someday, gonna use Barbie for inspiration for some Steampunk Hero character... :)
That would be epic!!!
I had an idea to make a cactus. I wanted to make to regular size, until I saw they grow 45 - 75 feet tall. haha So, 8 or 9 feet will be good.
I am trying to figure out, how in the hack to weld the steel bars to a base.
I taught myself to weld from watching CZcams videos. haha Also, my dad was a welder.
Now, I have 50 half inch thick bars that are nine feet long and 50 that are like 3/8 9 foot pieces.
The hard thing, will be the arms that come off the thing. I need to think of a way to make a solid base.
I read that the kind of cactus I want to make, has a 2 foot base. So, that is good.
I thought, why not build a box to put the cactus in and then weld that box to a large box that can be filled with sand. But, I want people to look at it and imagine a real cactus. Though, I like specific colors. So, the colors on the thing will be like, a 70s watercolor green.
I would need to find someone to paint the thing. I mean, I am no painter.
I would have to weld little metal pins on for the appearance of the needles, which would make painting take even longer. haha
I was also thinking. How in the heck, am I going to weld sheet metal onto the thing if it is all together? So, I thought, I will make the cactus in two pieces. Then, once the metal is on, weld the two together.
That would would make putting it onto a base impossible.
Unless, I welded something onto the base that would allow me to put the bar into and then bolt closed. You know?
I think, 8 or 9 feet tall would be good.
Knowing they are 9 feet each, if I welded two together, using, I guess tig welding, it would give me 18 feet. Then, I would have to subtract the two feet width and take some away for the curve at the top. Unless I made the curved part on its own and welded it on the top.
Now, I have a Bobcat 250, AHP Alpha tig and a Miller Suitcase 12vs. The VS is the newest and I've yet to teach myself to use it.
If I were to weld the bars together, I thought that tig welding would be the best way to go. Though, I have only tig welded aluminum.
Wow, this is a lot fo stuff. haha But, that is why I like doing it. I never had any interest in welding, until a few years ago. I got a cheap stick welder from Amazon. haha
This is Wayne just wondering what type and size of wire you use for your machine for this type of sculpture
Iâm using .030 er70s
I think that sculpture looks pretty bad ass!!! Just curious, how did you do the open areas between the skull and the hood?
( Did you really grind out all that material or were you using some kind of sheet metal fabrication? This is the first video I've seen of yours but love what you came up with from a pile of rusted bolts/scrap! đ€đ»đ )
+Collin Smith Thank you! The skull was made first from bolts and railroad spikes and welded to the body. For the hood I took a 3" pipe approximately 6" long and cut down the length of it and opened it up and shaped it to make the hood. The back was closed in by hammering the back together. If you are on Facebook and Instagram I have more details about this sculpture and how he is made and other work I do. I post new stuff everyday! Thanks for taking the time to watch my video!
That's impressive. (the pipe idea and work).
+Da L. Thank you!đ
HI,
I'm looking to start-up the art metal with scrap.
Can anyone help me out with major tools used for this.
Thank you in advance.
Itâs in the video!
How much would that go for when it's all done?
+Kyle Kyle It will depend on how many hours it takes me to complete it.
That's badass, My problem is selling the stuff, I'm not a great salesman...
+Junior D I felt the same way at first but realized I didnât have to sell anything just talk about your process of creation and or the materials youâre using. You find your passion when talking about what you love and you share that passion with others who are interested. You will find people will buy your passion as much as they buy your art!
Only a welder would appreciate the "wildness" of a flap disc! đ
đ
if you dont keep the guard on a grinder your fingers will not appreciate how wild a flap disc can get .
put the links in the description
Wow I'm amazed at your talent. You are truly a creative lady. It would be an honor just to hang out with you for a day....
Iâm honored George! Thank you kindly! Iâm easy to find just look for a bonfire!đ„đđ©âđ

What link can I get for you?
HOW DO YOU WELD THOSE PLATED NUTS AND BOLTS, ARENT YOU AFRAID OF THE FUMES
I have a fume extractor above my bench.
Barbie did you end up with a rather bad case of welders sunburn from wearing that low cut top, because it sure looked to me like you were getting plenty of rays during the demonstration? I got caught our myself the other week welding in an unusual position, should have known better :(
Sunburn isn't the worst part. Skin cancer is no joke.
No respirator??
I have two industrial ventilation systems but youâre right I should still be wearing a respirator. Thank you kindly for think of my health! I appreciate you!
@@BarbieTheWelder Of course! we all want to keep livin and build cool stuff for a long time!
Loving that grim reaper.
+The Tranny Shop Thank you kindly!đ

+Richard Chapple always wear PPE when watching my videos!đ
BarbieTheWelder Yes ma'am
1% welding....99% grinding......lol
audio is pretty fucked :/ sad.but nice work. How do you get the skullhead so neat :?
She is just getting used to her new microphone, which is better than her earlier audio. She will learn to work around it and or edit out the snap crackle pop.
Barbie. You NEED a Beverly shear. It'll cut back your gas and wire consumption greatly but not change your style.
+Douglas Alan tell me more Douglas, I've never heard of that.
Barbie its common name is a Throatless shear.
put the guard back on your grinder ,,,, then talk.
I greatly appreciate your genuine concern for my safety, youâre absolutely right. đđ©âđ
i weld every day , i make vintage car panels , and i have about twenty grinders , every one still has a guard on ,, your a long time without a finger if you slip , or the sparks arent sheilded.
I was surprised that you are at an age that can remember Sanford and Son.
đ
