  • @mateuszsarnat938
    @mateuszsarnat938 Před 9 lety +30

    It's VERY dangerous but not for a reason this man mentioned.
    1. Vomitting is not really a safety mechanism for when you drink too much- most of consumed alcohol is absorbed within 30 minutes of drinking it so when you vomit it is rather too late for that.
    2. If you inhale alcohol, rather than drink it, it bypasses your liver and goes directly into rest of your bloodstream, not being metabolised by liver. That leads to much higher BAC than when ingesting same amount of alcohol.

    • @CampGareth
      @CampGareth Před 7 lety +14

      Last I checked my stomach wasn't connected to my liver. It was however connected to my bloodstream and that's what I'm getting at, the liver works on blood and only blood. You could put alcohol into your blood via IV drip and it'd still hit your liver. Breathing it in does add it to your blood faster than drinking and that can cause problems.

    • @ShaRakuZz
      @ShaRakuZz Před 7 lety +9

      Actually, nutrients (and alcohol) is absorbed into the bloodstream from the digestive tract. From there the blood passes through the liver to filter away the bad parts (alcohol) before it is returned to the heart. Then the blood is pumped to the lungs, carbon dioxide is released and oxygen (or alcohol)is picked up, then back into the heart and from there, it is pumped back into the body, while some blood goes directly to the brain. Hopefully you can already see the issue with inhaling alcohol! It goes almost directly to your brain without passing the liver. Therefor it causes a quick reaction, and also a much stronger reaction since the alcohol has not started to break down by the liver when it reaches the brain.

    • @krisavi
      @krisavi Před 5 lety

      If liver is filtering it out, then comes the question, why does breathalyzer measure alcohol level? Probably because it is not that filtered out, blood with alcohol contents get through your heart and to lungs where it is released with carbon dioxide and then goes back to heart and then to brain and rest of the body. That is probably why breathalyzer is showing lower amounts of alcohol than real BAC is. However for sure it is not good to get alcohol in by taking a shortcut. Liver most likely tries to avoid getting toxins like alcohol to your brain (well until your liver gives up). So well shortcut is probably a bad idea, just because you do not let the liver to regulate how much it feels is safe to get into your bloodstream.

    The question is though, does the negative effects of inhaling alcohol balance out the benefit of drinking significantly less traditional alcohol as the concentration is so much lower?

    • @siprus
      @siprus Před 10 lety +11

      The main danger of consuming alcohol through inhaling is inability to deal with overdose. So if you "breath" much less alchol than you'd drink, you dont really risk overdosing.
      There is chance that you can absorb quicker through breathing, but i on otherhand if you are considering worst case scenario, downing 80% alchol your body is going to absorb much alchol much quicker than you could by breathing. (of course this would cause you to pass out and puke) which you can't do if you breath in the alcohol.
      Edit: I forgot about breathing in alcohol drying your nasal passages. This could make your nose feel incredibly bad after breathing alchol for long time and risk an infection especially if you regularly expose your nose to such stress. (but the main problem would probably be that your nose and throat would feel horrible if you started regular use)
      In short, small amounts for quick buzz is not very dangerous. Extensive inhaling of alcohol can be very dangerous. And prolonged usage might have very unpleasant consequences.
