I'm old enough to remember that Langfang was the 1st place as obscure rare tag.
That’s considered old now? Oh god 👴
For real, now we see it every game idk why
@@etienneleblanc755 its scripted to spawn at some point into the game, had it once spawned in Aceh for some reason lol.
@@T_DotTH Well it's a company set up by Hakken merchants/pirates so it makes sense they can spawn on any coast.
@@lolasdm6959 now it's only scripted to spawn on the province of Pontianak now or if Sambas still exists with less than 8 provinces
"so as you can see this country name is COMPLETELY BROKEN"
I think I was refering to the insane Finland mission there right? Because that is literally "COMPLETELY BROKEN"
@@thestudentYTyou do have a habit of calling things op/broken even when they aren't
@@sasi5841 Maybe that is because I know the Game very well and I know that there are a lot of these OP things but if you don't believe me than you should have a look at this single Mission that I was talking about and then you'll see what I mean... and the entire Finish Missiontree is even stronger
So in Vietnamese, 'Đại' means 'Great' and 'Dài' means 'Long'. For those who don't know 'Đ' in Viet is the 'D' sound in English, whereas 'D' in Viet is pronounced either like a 'Y' or 'Z' depending on if its south or northern dialect. Since the country name in EU4 has no accents, it appears to be the second pronunciation of 'Dài' (since there is no cross on the D), so I've always thought it would be funny challenge to play a game as them where you just create the longest snake possible, AKA to truly make a 'long Viet'
I simply think it is based on the Historical Dai so the one that means Great.. because the entire Game is set in a Historical Situation and the accents are simply not useable with western letters... that is also why Ming or all the other Chinese Dynasties are written with western letters and not with chinese
@@thestudentYT Yeah you're right, I just mean the words are spelt the same in English (without accents) so you could read them the same, and that pun is the basis of my idea for a challenge run.
Why is Nam Viet not an option?
@@sinoromanNam Viet is basically Yue
@@sinoroman why isn't Nam Nam Nam an option
I’m still going to go ahead and say Ramannadesa/Burma cosmetic name changes are the most obscure in the game since they’re locked behind long-ish mission trees in an obscure region.
Good list regardless, I have seen Turkey before and you’re right it’s a bit shocking.
lol was going to comment ramannadesa - I don't think very many of us have done a full playthrough for them.
I did one as pegu and it was pretty fun
Pretty funny. The china thing works with nearly all culture group revolutionary tags. One of the easiest and least "useful" ways are the T1 reforms from the new Japan mission tree missions in combinations with the old name decision.
But there China is as far as I know the only culture based Revolutionary Tag that changes your name to a non existing one... like for example the Germany one changes you into Revolutionary Germany... so you could become Germany like that... but what is the point of that? There is a Germany Tag already in the Game ... But China is not existing otherwise
@@thestudentYT Revolutionary Ottomans - Turkey
@@thestudentYT yeah turkey and the Indian ones are the same, aren't they? And I don't have a list of a culture groups beside me ATM, but there are probably some where the name of the group doesn't exist as another nation, or ?
And that's basically all that's needed to get a "new" name, or did I miss something?
They are also on the 1st Place here but they are not culture based so... it has nothing to do with this comment xd
Turkey is not culture based and I think the Indians don't have a unique one but Idk 100% @purple4395
1:43 Pueplo. I somehow like this name more than the original
Oh man that is an annoying spelling mistake now...
6000+ hours and still learning. Especially on Mondays.
Monday is when the school starts
This is a pretty good list of rare tags, i didn’t know about the top 3, vietnam, pueblo, and shogunate. Probably because I don’t play in asia often or play until revolutionary
I remember you can’t go revolutionary as the emperor of China in the past… did they change that?
You're an absolute madman and I love it
I had a run playing as the Sich Rada Cossack nation - > Poland - > Ruthenia from your videos, it was good stuff.
I found you could also form Russia and keep Sich Rada. You need to be Muscovite primary culture, and as Ruthenia I was an empire with a cultural union, so I culture converted to polish then to Muscovite, then became Russia. The great veche republic tier 1 reform isn't locked, and the option for Sich Rada never goes away once you've unlocked it, so you can just switch to it.
Russian missions give some amazing things (claims, -15% CCR, tons of temporary ccr modifiers), its pretty insane. I ended up wasting an idea slot on expansion ideas though because apparently I hate playing a Russia without Siberia colonised.
Ok, so I knew about more or less half of them. An interesting list for sure!
I'd also add Eranshahr to this list. To get it by going Zoroastrian as Persia and it's definitely more hidden than the kingdom of god.
I've known of most of them, but Pueblo is the only one I've seen the AI manage.
I knew about the existence of the top number 1 from the game files in the government reforms folder, it tells you that they change their name but I didn't know how to convert them, I'm sure I tried it once but it wouldn't work. That's since at least 1.33 when I first saw them.
I don't think I actually knew any of these, except Kingdom of God, that one's not too obscure. Nice list!
id definetally put marathas in here, like theres 2 minor tags at start with maratha main culture who can form it i think
I already saw or knew of many. Only some were new for me. I already saw Turkey and my last campaign the Shogunate.
The last one with China and Turkey blew my mind.
Always wanted to form CHOINA, now i know how.
Vielen Dank :)
Wander through the "government reforms" and events folders, search for "override_country_name" with Notepad++, I'm sure there will be others to discover
Danke für das Video
I actually saw turkey show up in my latest campaign
Is "Lithuanian-Polish Commonwealth" still not fixed? Been a while since I checked.
If you form it, you get polish as primary culture right before the event to pick new ideas fires, leading you to get the polish commonwealth ideas instead of lithuanian commonwealth ideas.
The only workaround was to culture shift back to lithuanian before accepting the new ideas, so you'd get the ones you were supposed to.
Idk but the Polish Ideas are probably in the Top 10 of the best Ideas in the Game so I don`t think it should be a bad thing XD
@@thestudentYT comparing only PLC vs LPC ideas here.
In general, polish ideas ARE better, yes. When playing Lithuania, it would probably be better to conquer Poland old fashioned way, form it to get their ideas first and then go for commonwealth, but here I'm talking a Lithuanian game, where you got poland under union cb. Then, I'd say PLC / LPC ideas are always better than regular Lithuanian ideas.
PLC gets +5% more cavalry combat (+30 vs +25) and +15% infantry combat, but LPC gets a -10% development and +5% technology discounts and +15% government cap and +25% manpower.
So yeah, when going Lithuania -> Commonwealth, I always tried to get LPC ideas over PLC ones. (even if that required some finicky stating/un-stating last second to switch back to Lithuanian primary culture, before accepting the event)
Honestly if Lith forms it you should get the name Uncommonwealth
Hi The Student !!
turkey mentioneddddd 🐺🐺🐺🐺🐺🔥🔥🔥🔥
The most random I've seen was when I was in Ireland and the AI was duking it out in England and replaced it with the Kingdom of Oxfordshire
I am pretty sure that there is no such Tag as "Oxfordshire" in Eu4 at all... except for Names after the Province maybe such as Client states, Trading Cities or Custom Nations
@@thestudentYT My bad I meant to specify that I wasn't talking about EU4 but CK3
Hello! I consider you among the most capable experts on EU4 mechanics. Could you please explain to me one thing in this game? There is a possibility for Ming to get a "Sinicization of Japan" modifier -25% culure change cost by completing the mission that deals with the Shogunate. There are different outcomes with different conditions. You either make the Shogun a tributary, or get a CB, or you get the modifier. How to get the modifier?
So the only way to get this reward instead of the other rewards you'll have to own Kyoto yourself but NOT 10 Provinces in Japan... Because then you fullfill none of the requirements for the previous rewards and therefore you'll get the last reward then... which is the modifier.
But the problem is that to fullfill the mission you need to either have diplomacy with the owner of Kyoto (which cannot be done as you own it yourself) or you need to have Kyoto AND 10 Provinces in Japan (which you also cannot do because then you would get a different reward)
So there is no legit way of completing the mission AND fullfilling the right requirements for the modifier reward... it's simply exclusive to each other and therefore impossible...
You could try one thing which is making the owner of Kyoto your Tributary before clicking the mission, increasing the Trust with them and then fullfill the mission via the diplomacy Path while he is your Tributary... Technically this makes the event that you would get as a diplomacy reward totally useless as a Tributary cannot become your Tributary again... but sadly I would expect it to trigger still anyways which would make the Mission reward of the culture conversion modifer truly a dead end of that mission that simply cannot be reached in the game right now :(
@@thestudentYT so it is a bug after all. Thank you!

Love your videos! But the modded map showing fog of war for water is VERY disconcerting, and makes seeing borders a bit more tough for those with color blindness issues... :/ I am amazing with geography. But I find myself looking and looking and looking to try to figure out what you are referring to, even when its right under my nose.
Oh I am really sorry to hear that... I never noticed myself but I hope it is not too bad in Normal Videos because honestly I hate playing with the Original Graphics XD
@@thestudentYT No worries bro. I know vanilla is boring. But all that aside... Thank you for your awesome strategies!
There is also Etruria
Why does no one ever have the Saxon rebel tag of Meißen on their rare country tier list?
Because it is not an interesting rare country... if it would be simply rarity then some Native American releasable should be on the first place... but that wouldn't be interesting at all
ive seen pueblo a few times
What about Sokoto?
Oh the first place definietely deserve it ^^
Wait, the seljuk empire has access to all ottoman missions?
No, only the Old Mission Tree that they had before Domination
Hariphunchai is pretty rare;)
Can you show how to form Turkey?
What about Etruria?
I dont get why you got to be Norse to form North Sea Empire, since Knut the Great was Christian
What happens when you become a Revolutionary Papal States?
You can't
@@thestudentYTI believe you should become revolutionary as the Kingdom of God and thus become Revolutionary Italy.
@@thenamesianna you can't because the Papal States Tier 1 Reform is the most hardcoded thing in Game... there is simply no legit way to change the tier 1 Reform out of the Papacy as Papal States and therefore you cannot become Revolutionary (which basically is just a special Tier 1 Reform)
@@thestudentYT isn't part of the permanent pope exploit changing the religion of papal states (via annexing them, then converting majority of their territory and releasing them)? The papal states do lose the government reform in that case, but I have no idea if they can select any other option, so maybe if you played as it would work?
@@thestudentYT there's a video by lambdaxx "the overpowered perma curia strat" about the exploit I mentioned
why do you sound like Toto Wolff?
Let me guess: Are you American? xD
@@thestudentYT nope
:)
kingdom of god is not rare or hidden
That is why it is on the 10th Place... it is definetly more hidden and rare than France or something xd
Such a click bait title, those country names aren't rare they only a PAIN to get since it requires the Age of Revolution and most campaings end before it unless one wants to suffer the slowdown that is end-game EU IV.
Here a list what are in my opinion rare Countries as well as tags you won't see unless some hidden conditions are fullfilled:
Etruria (never saw it)
Malta (played it once, was a hell of pain to even restore there core on the island of Malta)
Maeda (never saw it)
Ikeda (saw it once)
Baroda (never saw it)
Buryatia (never saw it)
Libertatia (saw it once after hitting over 8k+ play hours)
Kulin (saw it once)
Meissen (played it once, kinda fun but also a pain to restore -> Saxony doesn't be saxon for it to even get the rebels so you can restore there core)
Zealandia (AI and Human players tend to form Australia over Zealandia)
So all the Nations (Names) on this list have you already seen them all in your games?
@@thestudentYT
Most of them mentioned in the video have I seen 2 - 3 times already. I often play as the LPC or France with it's revolutionary missions so napoleonic Spain and Italy are well known for me, Turkey do I see almost every run that hits the 1750s, Seljuks did I seen twice while I played them after I formed Rum as AQ. China isn't as rare as one would think sometimes even the Ai manages to get it. The cosmetic names for the Papel state, Japan, Finnland and Norse Scandinavian are well known to me since I play them once a month.
For me rare nations in EU IV are either the revolt nations or some event nations that either require obscure conditions to be fulfilled like Libertatia, Zulu or the pirate republics in the Caribbeans or as mentioned nations that can get cores via revolt while not owning a core at the 1444 start date.
@@user-em4id1rb2v You must be a proffessionelle Eu4 Player then if you play so many different countries monthly and then even until the era of Revolutions... that must be hours worth a full time job :)
You should definetly do a YT Video yourself with your list of rare tags... that seems interesting ;)
ure at a level, which id never would want to get. it is just too advanced 🥲
