      Exactly and that derives from Zen. Im not shitting on neuroscience im all for it, But at least give propz to Zen instead of labelling it Flow State, and pay respect/tribute to the ancient civilizations of the east asia on understanding the concept of Zen and also how to develop and master it in all aspects of your life and transcending the state of being Non-Plus which is the opposite of Zen ( or now we call it Flow State )

    Hey Man, I know you are on to something. Feeling the "Flow" is Everything. Can not explain it, but it is there.. How to reproduce it? I dont have a clue, but I have felt it and I Know it is there.It is an Addiction. And I Love that Feeling. Purpose: Find that Feeling Every F,n Day..... Love Ya Bra. Keep it up. Find it.     Peak or ‘flow’ Experience Explained in 2 minutes: A new perspective from affective neuroscience
    It has recently been demonstrated (link below) that reward uncertainty or novelty can enhance the sensory experience of high value reward. In other words, popcorn actually tastes better when we are watching exciting movies, and tastes worse when we are watching paint dry. This is due to what are called dopamine-opioid interactions, or the fact that dopamine activity (elicited by positive novel events, and is responsible for a state of arousal, but not pleasure) interacts with our pleasures (as reflected by opioid release), and can actually stimulate opioid activity, which is reflected in self-reports of greater pleasure.
    Opioid release occurs when we are consuming food and drink, but it also occurs when our musculature is in a state of inactivity or rest, which is why relaxation feels good. Thus it follows that any behaviors which have a lot of positive reward uncertainty (creating art, climbing mountains, etc.) will stimulate naturally occurring opioid activity in concurrent resting states, with subsequent self-reports of high arousal and pleasure, which precisely describes all peak or flow experiences. In other words, peak experience is simply opioid-dopamine interactions due to pursuing positive novel events during a state of rest. Furthermore, as dopamine release scales with the salience of the activity, so will the resulting peak experience. We also see this for peak or flow experiences, where the pleasure and arousal scales with the importance of the task. Thus a rock climber who is risking his life would have a more intense experience than if he were attached to a tether that would break his fall.
    A longer explanation from affective neuroscience is provided on pp. 81-86 in the open-source book on the neuro-psychology of rest linked below, as well as a simple procedure on pp. 44-51 to induce and sustain the positive affect characteristic of flow. The book is based on the work of the distinguished affective neuroscientist Kent Berridge, who was kind to review for accuracy and endorse the work.

    umm I'm about half way in and I'm already thinking this magical "flow" is simply probably a combo of adrenaline and dopamine. I have lyme disease too and yes for brief moments of time (or on good days) I can still feel really awesome. Sometimes I hear some awesome music and some adrenaline/dopamine will kick me into a great feeling state for a few minutes. This isn't some magical new thing, everyone can experience temporary highs like this from our normal everyday hormones......the only problem.....things like adrenaline are temporary quick bursts our adrenal glands secrete in life or death situations, trauma, etc. so its no wonder "adrenaline Junkies" such as extreme athletes use it. The other problem with people with chronic illness/stress/trauma is we often have depleted our adrenaline from years of stressors aka "adrenal fatigue" so these little bursts are just that, short bursts where we can feel great again but our regular state is chronic fatigue and pain because as I've discovered my adrenal glands do not put our normal cortisol on the morning like most peoples' are supposed to and if I were to forcibly put myself into some stressfull situation all the time to get this adrenaline kick, that just makes my adrenals more fatigued when the high dissipates. Okay I'll watch the rest now and see if there's anything of real substance in this, but so far, I'm pretty dissapointed.

      Okay yeah I watched the whole thing and anyone can save themselves the 12 mins and just look up the definition of adrenaline. So his magical "flow" state is simply when your glands secrete adrenaline and maybe dopamine which are temporary so I'm not seeing how that can cure chronic illness esp. when one of your chronic illnesses is adrenal fatigue from being put in a constant state of stress/trauma/flight or fight mode for too long hence "adrenal fatigue"

      Hey @@thisandthat808 I have actually been studying the same thing how to use this flow state to cure autoimmune diseases and other illnesses like depression. And I have some very strong evidence that shows you can not only treat but heal your body very easily without putting your body thru stress or anything like that and staying in a semi constant flow . What this man is saying is just one small way to achieve this flow state. I'd love to have a real discussion with you about this because for most people I meet it's hard enough to get them to consider the idea. You seem more than highly educated on the topic and I think we might actually discover something together.

    Flow state is simply the temporary state of being in ZEN by accident. The state of ZEN is everything he just described. Enlightened beings have broken the threshold, and are ALWAYS in flow. This isn't new, it's just labelled under a different name.

      Not sure about that..I have adhd and it seems like I'm too focused on too many things at once...how ever when I take adderal it still keeps me focused but it helps me keep focused on one thing..the only issue with adderal is you have to be careful what you allow your mind to focus on..
      Meaning if you focus too much on something irrelevant like looking up how many facebook friends you have for instance..you need to allow yourself to focus on what matters.
      As far as flow my opinion of what i believe it truly means is being able to focus on one thing only with intense dedication to understand what is in front of you. You not focus on anything else..but what's in front of you. When you detach yourself from space and time because you are focused so much on that one thing is when u realize your in a state of flow..
      how ever you dont really realize you reached this point after the fact when you stop or finish what you doing and you realize that time itself has passed without you knowing it or when you detached yourself from space and didnt realize that the burning smell is coming from your overcooked steaks you left in the oven 3 hours ago...
      I think we all have experienced this state of flow some point in our lives..for example when you were younger and you were to busy playing basketball with your friends late at night and time passed so fast that you end up getting that faint feeling when you realize you past your curfew and you gone get an ass whooping..or for those who are into gaming..games are always in a flow state of mind..how many times have some of you played a game xbox pc playstation for 6 to 10 hours straight and didnt realize time passing...that's a flow state..
      me typing this message as well I'm currently in a flow state of mind..hope this helps lol

      @@Thomas-we4du When you achieve true flow your body is naturally producing the same neurochemicals thats are in your Adderall with out the damaging side effects. You wont need the stuff anymore. I've not only cured my Adhd I've also cured my depression by doing a simple step every single day.
