You guys might want to look into a fish descender device. They have become required in some of the ocean fisheries on the west coast of the US. It helps get those fish that bloat up from being pulled up. Gets them back down to depth quicker and helps their survival rate go way up.

Fishing and catching makes for a great day on the water, the bonding between you two is better then any record catch.

    Hi Mark
Can you do a video one time (for newbies) of what it takes to clean the boat, trailer and engine after the fishing trip? It would be really helpful for people thinking about buying a boat but not having a clue of what it takes to maintain a boat. I know you had a video with a pro cleaner but I'm talking about the average clean you do after each trip and what it involves and how long it takes.
    Cheers! Peter

    • @selfsuffishingme

Yes, that's a good point about moving the boat after the fish. The truth is we are still learning how to move with the minn kota but we are improving each trip 👍🙂

Hey Mark quick tip , leave a clean wet rag on the gunnels or bait board and use it to pick up your fish for dehooking, it looks after the fish you return and saves some of the spikes in your fingers ,old towels are good
Love watching you slowly finding your own spots and good ground
    Cheers from down south

The sounds on your vids remind me of the times going out with my mother on her Bayliner out in the channel in Southeast Alaska. I never caught much but I enjoyed the time with her and the grand scenery (she could catch fish anywhere! Inland, she caught a catfish in a mudhole!)

G'day Mark and James, the kids and I love watching you on both channels before bed every night. They're mad keen gardeners and are at me to take them fishing now, especially my son James 👍 Given you enjoy your fish as sushi, have you tried growing wasabi? I've been successful with horseradish but not wasabi yet. Love the channel, keep enjoying that great corner of SEQ.

    • @selfsuffishingme
      @selfsuffishingme  Před 9 měsíci +1

Thanks for your support on both channels, mate!I have been growing wasabi but haven't done any videos yet until I fully understand the plant. However, I can give you a growing tip: wasabi doesn't like our hot summer and full sun will likely kill it so what I'm doing is growing it in containers under a mulberry tree. In summer, the wasabi is in full to dappled shade but in winter when the mulberry sheds its leaves the wasabi has the extra sun it needs. So far, this is working well! Of course, you could grow it in a shade house but the ambient temps are still higher than under natural shade. Remember that wasabi naturally grows near streams and river banks in Japan. Cheers 👍

@@selfsuffishingme good on you Mark. Thanks for the tips. We're down in Monbulk, VIC these days so we'll keep trying the wasabi, the climate should suit. Keep up the great work and we'll look forward to a wasabi video in the future. Cheers 👍

Make sure your transducer is not kicking up after punching through swell. Maybe tighten up the screw? Have had that happen and won't read depth :)

Hussers make great flesh baits. Whip the fillets off, scales and all, then cut into half pilly sized strips 👌🏼. Whack that down next time and see how it goes.

Yep some days are just stuff of legends😁👍
Hey Mark just a suggestion but my dad taught me probs 50yrs ago now when we lived up the cape an used to catch giant barra that with an egg beater reel you have a lot more control (particularly when u r into a really big fish) if u position the “tang” (the shank of the reel mount that is at right angles to the rod) with 2 fingers either side of it the reel can’t twist vs holding it by the butt??
Give it a crack I find it very comfortable an second nature now?
    Stay safe guys🤙

The pearl perch, please make sure you kill it and don’t leave it to die slowly in the air. It’s a great catch but I can see the pectoral fins still moving whilst you show it off to the camera. I love your channel and I know you usually end them straight away. Ex marine biologist just passing on his concerns. 👍
