After I read "No Place to Hide" book, I can tell such vulnerabilties are not a mistake, it intended as a back door.

Maybe sometimes but not all vulnerabilities are intentional. What man can make man can break in-spite of your good intention or otherwise.
Even the Etherium block chain has a backdoor intended for control in case of any malicious intent. Backdoor is a tool where its meaning is based on the user.

As I know, no application is bug free. So It may be a simple mistake coz while programming we mainly focus on our goal not the security system. So even though they use any encryption or sth else to protect user data later phase. The programmers also should be aware and cure full while developing every single unit or module and while integrating them.

For the WhatsApp manufacturer to be silent about this vulnerability could mean they are unaware of it. Hacking VOIP apps is something there is rarely discussed by experts. However, as they say, New innovation comes with its own peculiar challenges. It will be good if you educate us more about how to avoid been hacked.
I disagree Alhassan, hacking using VOIP and other protocols is not something new, even if it is then Facebook is one of the biggest companies in the world so they can afford to hire the best in the industry.
As for securing ourselves from such attacks, there's nothing you could have done if you were using whatsapp while it was vulnerable, the only people that were secure are the ones that just did not use whatsapp, thats why this is a very dangerous vulnerability.
I have no problem with hacking, issues again ,ever since I met #Kennedy_hacker he helped me on this issues

Thank you for the informative video. At this time I am sitting on the fence about whether it was a deliberate action or a programming accident although I have my own suspicions about this . The method of attack is similar to the way that cellular phones may be attacked using system text messages, however in the Whatsapp attack there is no redirection to an external website (for download of custom malware) and so the potential effects on the user are much greater. We also need to be aware that certain Asian based cellular based chat software may also able to be compromised !
generally speaking all apps that have access to your device's hardware are possibly vulnerable.

@@sovereignboss1841 nothing technically, but i thought there maybe a way to inject something with a call, as calls are always being recieved without user consent. So for an app like whatsapp where most of the people use with all permissions enabled, the person hacking through call can also access all permissions that are given to the "WhatsApp" and also read and write whatsapp data, leak messages and medias, or a ransom which encrypts the whole /sdcard.
I didn't try to hack it nor find a vulnerability, but thought it is likely to happen. Just imagined that and after some day(or weeks or a month or two i don't remember) this vulnerability is found.

Stepp 1: Hire "300" good coders. Stepp 2: check for theyr trust and ability to not talk to much, then train them for what theyr real purpose needs. Stepp 3: Make them apply for relevant, mayor and upcomming software dev companys. Stepp 3: inject magic camo portal and prepear for upcomming tasks.

All the devices that have been compromised using the whatsapp vulnerability are still compromised after updating whatsapp, yeah?
Well it depends, if a device gets compromised then the hacker can install a persistent (determinant) backdoor, so he would still be able to control the device even if whatsapp is updated.

But the vulnerability still there. It's just patched in whatsapp. Apple and Google still haven't released any patches AFAIK.
No if you updated to the latest version of Whatsapp on Android or IOS you should be fine.

this is mistake.. If software developer wants to have backdoor in his application he will do it to have access only by himself and will hide it well. I do not think anyone would like to have real exploit in his product on purpose.

It might be a mistakes. When conpanies make small mistakes black hat or Grey Hat hackers can take advantage of those weaknesses. Or it would be deliberate where black hat hackers use social engineering to steal money.

I do think this is an oversight (let's assume this). I work for a very big company and know from experience that easy mistakes happens a lot of times, because they are so big. I think this is also the case with WhatsApp, because they have grown from small to very big in a short period of time. From that moment you will loose sight of things. But my question still remains how did WhatsApp got the information that there system could be hacked?
