The Armchair Historian hi
How’s your day
this is why some historians call the Seven Years war/French and Indian War World War 0.
You know I'm waiting for that moment when the Russians capture Berlin and were on a brink of destroying the Prussians, but then THEY CHANGE SIDES! All of that because the new Russian Emperor thought that Prussian army abd military culture are..........cool. I'm not joking, the Prussians literally won the war because some russian boy had a boner (literally!) for Prussia!
Langley has no AA, screws me too many times.
Frederick the Great - such a tactical genius that he actually withdraws from Russia in the winter. 😲
After Napoleon’s failure to invade Russia? We’d think everyone would have taken notes from it.
Adolf Hitler: Hold my beer. (Cues tanks’ fuels gets froze up and men dying to the winter)
@@arjusarauis9901 but it was before napoleon.
@@perfectlyfine1675 Right lol? Like the great Napoleon who if I recall correctly had a great love of the tactics of Fredrick only to miss the key move
Except Frederick didn't go deep into the russian heartlands which are significantly colder.
@@Jp808 He probably wanted to prove himself better than him. Nah m8, nah
Ironic. They made a series of defensive treaties in the hopes of preventing war, yet helped grow it. At least they never made that mistake again, am I right fellow history fans?
Defensive treaties have also prevented wars many times throughout history.
Владимир Новиков r/woooosh
Steve Wilds well, they are talking about WW1 and the alliances really increase enough tensions
Aye aye!
I'm surprised this war never got coined the term of World War 1.
this was the "Great War" of the era. Followed by the Napoleonic/
@@Inucroft meh the war of the spanish succession was also fought on three continents. Europe, America and Africa
Because it wasn't an actual world war. It doesn't matter that it was fought across the globe. The war was primarily between Great Britain and France and their respective allies. It didn't directly involve powers and nations from all over the world. Maybe if the Ottoman Empire, China, Poland etc got involved... but they didn't. Only a minority of scholars refer to this conflict as a world war, but they prefer the term *World War Zero*.
@@decem_sagittae Ah okay very interesting, thank you!
Didn’t Winston Churchill call it that?

This is your best video yet in my opinion. It’s such an interesting and overlooked war and I’m glad you are taking the time to go through it in detail.
The quote from Washington about the bullets was kind of charming. You can tell he truly found his true calling in life.
That and the fact it implies he found enjoyment and excitement from hearing bullets move in a skirmish instead of being afraid.
Appreciate the work this channel puts into making history (fantastic and underused source material) compelling entertainment. Honestly these videos are really addictive, the same way a good show or book series would be. I binged the whole channel in the last week!
Hi, Griffin. Wow, great video! I've watched it repeatedly and decided I should comment. Being of 13/16 Austrian heritage, I especially enjoyed this video, acknowledging that some of my ancestors fought during this long war. Thank you for continually writing and producing awesome videos. Thank you to your assistance as well.
You're literally my favorite channel, I even introduced this channel to 4 of my friends that didn't know about this channel!
I took AP European History in high school and they really didn’t give this war the attention it deserves. Your video was really educational and entertaining. Thanks!
Kids in school should skip history class and just watch your videos.
AP European History is definitely a fun history class
An exceptionally well done video, as always!
Also props for your pronunciation of French names :) Looking forward to part II

The generals of the shah of Bengal betrayed him during his fight with the British but he still fought. Côté Fabrice the French and prussians were fighting eachother lol, the prussians won, and the British troops sent to fight in Germany helped achieved this.
BTW, at battle of Hockirch there also was General Laudon who is considered one of the best opponent of Frederick II. who was known for his great offensive tactics. Frederick had huge respect for this man and when the negotiations started, Frederick and Laudon once met and Frederick told him: "Dear Laudon, sit please next to me, I rather see you sitting next to me, than against me." Many years before the 7 years war, Laudon went from his home Livonia to find army job in different country, his first visit was at Frederick II. in Prussia, but he was rejected with Frederick saying: "I don't like face of this man." Huge mistake it was for sure...
Don't forget the mighty Hesse-Kassel which was a ally of the UK and Prussia. Also it sold counltess of mercenaries to the UK during the American Revolution!
No no rented troops(they were not mercenaries) to the UK and Prussia.
@@brentpearson2177 well the so called 'Landeskinder' (childs of the nation) were sold by their ruler for a time. But he didn't have a problem if they were killed or stayed for the rest of their lives there. F.e. Hessen-Homburg and Hessen-Kassel were poor countries. But they had to much population. So they rented their soldiers for a lot of money and were happy, if many wouldn't comenback, so their overpopulation would go down (if you want to know what the peiple of the time throught about this practice, read Schiller's play 'Kabale und Liebe').
@@jackmara882 Yes the monarch cared little if his soldiers returned or not as long as the gold came. I just think it is not right to call them mercenaries as they had no say in the matter.

Griffin, you make history so much fun!!!
Unbelievably good production!
I don't understand how does the Polish Lithuanian Commonwealth let other countries fight in there lands and not do anything about it
Poland was a mess at this moment and a puppet state of Russia
Because their Kings were frequently nobles from other nations like Saxony or France. Like all things in Europe, blood ties.
they were allied to the prussians and the british
Well there was hardly any entertainment back then so they just let them fight and watch the show, look at it like tourism or sport tournaments of today where there are "fights" between different countries in the stadium (football) and their hooligans outside of the stadium. All jokes aside I believe the previous commentators have already answered.

I have enjoyed a few of your vids, I appreciate them no doubt, and have enjoyed your videos on the eastern front conflictsnof WW2, and ecspecially the Vietnam War video on why we lost (although I wish you covered that war a lot more, there are some absolutely amazing tales from it that get brushed under the rug, it really was the most important event of the second half of the 20th century as Ken Burns had said, only those who have actually lived through that decade (the 60’s) and those who have studied it/understand the VN war, and how many crazy political/worldwide events had become a result of it and basically all of the little things that came out of it that have gone unnoticed, are just incredible to learn about, please consider covering those topics more! Heck even Korea too! But man, I gotta say, although you advertise these as animated, that is kinda stretching it haha. I really wish they were actually animated, as anyone would enjoy/appreciate that rather than these little key frame movements that are more like a glorified slideshow, the effort you’d put into actually animating the action/soldiers/events would be amazingly appreciated and would help immerse the narrative so much! Even something like how the infographics show has been trying to advance their content by attempting to learn and implement true animation (somewhat) has made their videos so entertaining! And it shows, since they went from 320,000 subs exactly one year ago, to now having over 5 million videos (also due to their daily uploads lol) but yeah please consider what I’ve mentioned, I only recommend those due to me being a fan of the channel and only want to see that you succeed and grow even more! Keep it up man
Finally! The 7 years war is so interesting and a fascinating precursor to modern warfare but it is often brushed over in most history classes
So sad, however it's finally starting to gain the recognition it deserves in its place in our history, perhaps its prequel conflicts (Wars of Austrian and Spanish Successions) are also taught more.
Your animation and editing skills have improve significantly! Good job!
Eagerly awaiting part II!
Your best video yet
great video! Love the fitting Victoria 2 music :D

I am happy with this video like your others I am glad you shine light on one if the greatest German kingdoms the world had ever known my king Fredrick the great rest in peace despite the fact his kingdom that would become a empire is no more. P.s I might have mentioned something that you should include Robert Rogers amd his rangers in your 7 years war video I hope to see that you will hopefully include him and his rangers played a major role in defeating the French and their Native American Allies as Roger's rangers and there native American aliles help the English crush the frogs at the battle of snow shoes and many other battles.

Two small mistakes: Saxony was not a kingdom, it was an electorate (Kurfürstentum), and Frederik II was ,king in' not ,of ' Prussia. In the 18th century the prussian kings called themself in this way for political reasons.

Gotta love the total war and vicky2 songs.

Finally, a take on the war that doesn’t just focus on the Americas!
I think it still put too much focus on such a trivial at best theatre.
@@Noxi8890 It may be trivial in the actual war, but the aftermath in that theater to the superpower that is America.
However, as an American, I didn't really get a good grasp on the other theaters, and I enjoy learning about it.

@@CrazyNikel It doesn't change how little relevance they have in the 7 Years War. Which is almost none.

5:52 its so good to hear vic2 soundtrack in this video.
Who else likes that instead of going straight into the war he tells how it lead to it
So Facinating, So many countries involved crazy. Domino effect?
Pitt was not Prime Minister (or First Minister)--he effectively ran the war as Secretary of State for the Southern Department, while the Prime Ministers were the Duke of Devonshire and the Duke of Newcastle. Pitt wouldn't become PM in his own right until the mid-1760s (as the Earl of Chatham.)
I live in Pittsburgh so it's always cool to hear about people after which so much is named after around here. Like Forts Pitt & Duquesne, and Braddock. Also I could be wrong, but I thought Fort Pitt and Duquesne were separate Forts with the former being built along the Allegheny and Ohio Rivers, whilst the latter (and much larger) was built after Duquesne's fall along the Monongahela and Ohio Rivers. Again I could 100% be wrong I'm just basing this off old maps of the confluence.
Cool video.
I’m a simple man. I see Armchair Historian, I click. Proud of you Griffin! - WilliamMacDonovan
What a segue... Nice video (great game, too)
I glad YT brought back your old videos, I remember you saying they demonitized it for no reason. Its like new old content lol

That cut to world of warships with Hood really ruined the immersion.. but this was without a doubt a good video, I'm looking forward to the next one.
Millennials make history so interesting, keep up the good work bro.
That's the way history should be made. Interesting.
I think the Braddock disaster needs a little more attention. While not a massive and decisive battle like those in Europe, it was a very big step in Washington's military career as he rallied the troops after Braddock was mortally wounded. There are also miraculous legends that arose about Washington from that battle, such as he couldn't be hit by a bullet.
That transition though
I was just thinking “What an annoying and sudden way of transferring to the sponsor” And then you said the game runs smoother than your sponsorship transitions which made me laugh xD
I love how he puts Victoria 2 music in his videos
Would have been nice to mention the 1757 sack of Berlin, which was an interesting episode of the war.
