Nicely done! Spun it right around like a drift driver!! And in 30 knots of breeze!! Thanks, Tim, really enjoyed this one.
Thank you William. I appreciate that. CUOTO
Depending on the windage of the barge vs the tug, Tim might have been taking advantage of the 30k wind to help spin the stack (NASA term, but meaning the barge+tug) around.
For land lovers from the middle of the country, what you're doing is quite awe inspiring. It makes one realize the intelligence of ancient ship captains, like Captain Cook, who explored the unknown oceans/shores of the world.
I too often think of early mariners and how they truly went into the unknown. Thank you very much for watching Linda! CUOTO
As a person who knows nothing about a tug boat. As I watched this, you surely know what you are doing. God bless . Be safe..🙏❤️🌹
Thank you very much for watching Dottie. CUOTO
Same here, only thing I’ve ever operated was our 26 ft flying bridge bay-liner on lake Tahoe in the 80’s. Nothing like these things
Expertly done, Capt. Tim! You guys take care!
Thank you very much for watching all these years. CUOTO
I am not a boat guy at all but love watching these vids and the amount of though a seemingly simple task requires!!
Thank you for watching Joseph. I appreciate your kind words. CUOTO
As usual, well done Tim and Luke. Slick move
Thank you very much for watching Steve. CUOTO
I am reminded of the dancing hippos in "Fantasia." It's easy to forget that you're dealing with thousands of tons of steel and product.
😂😂😂 Thank you very much for watching Jim. CUOTO
Thank you Tim!
Another great video,
Thank you for watching. CUOTO
Hi Captain Tim!
Hi Luke!
CUOTO
Hi Mellissa. Thank you very much for supporting the channels. CUOTO
Great job spinning that barge around!!!
Thank you very much for watching Wayne. CUOTO
Watching your wake while you were still all ahead, around 2:00, I could have ridden your wake in my kayak for a good ways!
As always, it's a pleasure to watch a master of his craft at work. Thanks Cap'n.
Thank you very much for watching and for the kind words. CUOTO
Great maneuver video. Really liked Luke's video coverage. Thanks.
He did a great job, didn't he? Thank you for watching. CUOTO
Unreal. Such a great touch.
Thank you very much for watching Mark. CUOTO
Best Vid yet Tim, great camera work by Luke!
Thank you very much for watching Marcus. I was just saying the same thing to Luke. CUOTO
wow. you guys make it look so easy. First time watching this channel... gonna binge...
Thank you for watching and welcome to the channel Dianne. CUOTO
Truly enjoy your running narration of some complex maneuvering.
Thank you very much for watching Alan. CUOTO
Master Class. Well done!
Thank you very much for watching Phillip. CUOTO
My dad always used the expression “red right returning”. Every time I see a red buoy I always think of him.
Thank you for watching and welcome to the channel Walter. CUOTO
Capm. Tim looks like you know what you're doing 😅
Great Lakes one design sailor here. 👌
Thank you for watching and welcome to the channel. CUOTO

Thank you for watching Steven. CUOTO
Good morning Tim happy Tuesday. I’ve been following recently Xcel marine. The videos are called. Hold my boat between your videos and their videos. It’s amazing to work that you guys do. Thanks again all the great effort and work that you do.
Thank you very much for watching and welcome to the channel. CUOTO
enjoyed the content nicely done well done Tim and Luke
Thank you for watching James. CUOTO
That was awesome!
Thank you very much. I appreciate that. CUOTO
Hi Tim, I've driven a lot of cranes but that set back on the first container crane design has me worried.
Thank you for watching. CUOTO
Call me crazy, I find this stuff, fascinating!! Thanks Cap!
Thank you for watching Samuel. CUOTO
Me, too.
Nice finesse!
Thank you for watching Mike. CUOTO
Great explaining and driving. Be safe,God bless all

Thank you very much for watching Mike. CUOTO
Another good one Captain, and Luke the camera man, you guys make a great team, thanks.
Thank you very much for watching Terry. CUOTO
Wow. That was like ballet. Or some kinda dance.
😂😂😂😂 Thank you very much for watching. CUOTO
Chiquita -n- Dole on one side & Cherry Hill Landfill on the other..... Hmmm, depending on which way the wind blows out there
you could smell either fresh or rotten fruit?? I hear you speak about letting power off so you can add power if you get into a
situation where you need to turn. Jet Skiers(and others) ought to think about this & you know all about it but seeing a jet ski
blasting full speed if all good fun but if they need to turn & no more power is available they've got nothing to push so that
they can turn. Alright Captain, you got my mind thinking physics or something above my pay-grade. ty Sir & be safe.
Thank you very much for watching and welcome to the channel. CUOTO
Great job. Thanks.
Thank you very much for watching and welcome to the channel. CUOTO
Well, that was neat! Thanks! 85 degrees and sunny down here in Tampa-St Pete today. Summer's coming!
Thank you very much for watching. CUOTO
Great job Tim you done good mate ,lots of years of experience I guess cheers mate stay safe ❤️🙏😃👍🦘🇦🇺🇺🇸
Thank you very much for watching Jess. CUOTO
Wow!! Very informative and entertaining!!
Thank you for watching Richard. CUOTO
Absolutely spot on Tim!
Thank you very much for watching. CUOTO
Hi Captain Tim. Once you land the barge, do you stay with it while it unloads, or do you leave it to do other work?
Thank you for supporting the channels Carl. That particular one, we stayed with. But most of the time, we drop it off and go to the next job. CUOTO
Loved this video! Thanks lot!
Thank you very much for watching Paul. CUOTO
another great job tim i love watching you make that job look simple thanks for shareing
Thank you very much for watching Matt. CUOTO
That was a pretty slick pirouette/backup maneuver putting you right about on the money alongside the ATV. Hats off! Well done!
BTW, what is an ATV?
Thank you for watching Ralph. It's an ATB. Articulated Tug Barge. CUOTO
20 years ago I would have been incredulous that I would enjoy watching the life of a tug captain. But as a sailor, boater, pilot, I love watching you handle the tug/barge/crew/traffic. Your videos bring joy and wonder to my life.
Thank you very much for watching and welcome to the channel. Most of the "good jobs" we do go un-noticed. It takes a certain person to understand the dynamics of what is happening. CUOTO
Fabulous job. I greatly enjoyed that one. Thanks.
Thank you for watching John. CUOTO
Thanks Luke!
Thank you for watching Timothy. CUOTO
Tim, is a cool guy!
😂😂😂 Be sure to tell my kids! 😜 Thank you very much for watching and for the kind words. CUOTO
Tim ... very nice job ... wise use of the 32knot wind "assist tug"!🙂🙂🙂
Stay safe ... CUOTO / CUOT2
Thank you very much for watching George. CUOTO
Tim, your comment about seagulls prompted me to mention that seagulls are relatively common here in northern Colorado as are pelicans. I once counted over 80 pelicans on one small reservoir here.
Thank you very much for watching. That's amazing. CUOTO
Thanks for another very interesting video. Nice job Captain.
Thank you very much for watching and welcome to the channel. CUOTO
Audio sounds really good on this, Tim!
Thank you very much for watching. CUOTO
Very (very, very) sleek maneuver!! If going aster is not as efficient, wouldn't be easier to execute your rotation passed the unit and approach (land) going forward? (muy expert navigational talking here!).
Thank you for watching. The water by the shore gets a bit skinny, so I thought keeping the wheels in better water would be a good idea. CUOTO
Looks like you have done that before, well done Capt
Thank you very much for watching and welcome to the channel. CUOTO
I live in wilmington. Can see dmb from my house as well as the gantry cranes at the port. I travel up and down and across all those bridges from the canal to jersey. Every time I'm near the water I'm looking for Tim. Ha. Great channel many thanks.
Thank you very much for watching Aaron. CUOTO
A great video...Thanks.CUOTO.
Thank you very much for watching James. CUOTO
Tim, You are a Master! I look forward to your videos. Your Years of Experience and local knowledge shows through every Time. Thank you for allowing us to ride along and learn.
Thank you very much for watching and for the kind words George. CUOTO
Nice..... thanks...!!!!!
Thank you for watching and welcome to the channel. CUOTO
Man, if you are ever back down in NC and need any welding done, I have got you covered dude. I also do custom stainless work and can hook you up for stuff on your sailboat. Much love to you and the crew Tim. Be careful out there buddy. (Every time I would end a conversation with my mom, she’d say that and it was always my good luck jinx and I pass it to you guys as well 😉🤙🤙)
Thank you very much for watching and man, I wish you lived nextdoor to SVP. She needs some custom stainless work. CUOTO
@@TimBatSea dude, I have a truck and I can go wherever you needed. Much love Tim🤙
@@TimBatSeaWhere's SVP?
@@MikeBenson241 currently on the hard in New London CT.
Smooth docking maneuver. I guess the Chiquita ship had a load of bananas. I've watched the orange juice ships on AIS operating in Florida waters.
Thank you very much for watching Jim. CUOTO
Tim, much obliged.
Thank you very much for watching Jeff. CUOTO
Aren’t Seagulls on the bay called Baygulls? Which are delicious with cream cheese and lox, apparently…😂 Cool video… keep up the good work! #CUOTO and the Chief on Two!
😂😂😂 Thank you very much for supporting the channels Ian. CUOTO
Enjoyed 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Thank you for watching Milan. CUOTO
Tim B, precision work as usual. Great job, my brother. Now start resting up because we have real work to do soon…lol.
💯!!! Thank you for watching Sput! See you soon. CUOTO
Great job Captain, another good video a little patience and a lot of knowledge 😅
Thank you very much for watching Joe. CUOTO
A month ago? Clearly had this one in the can 😂 CUOTO
Thank you for supporting the channels Jim. I've got a ton of new content in the can. I'm about two or Three months ahead of schedule. CUOTO
Great barge handling.
Thank you very much for watching and welcome to the channel. CUOTO
Another great video, I like how you tell us what you are doing with the controls, why and for what purpose, really informative, I almost feel like I could come on you boat and say, ''Hey, Tim, move over, i'll do this one!'' But on a serious note would it be possible that you would ever transit the Panama Canal and go and do some work up the west coast?
Thank you for watching John. The company I work for has sent a number of units to the West Coast, but due to my age (getting ready to retire) and the pilotage I have, it is very unlikely that I will be assigned to work out there. CUOTO
Sweet, all that in a 30 knot wind. I couldn't do that in a bath tub with my model boats. LOL
😂😂😂 Thank you very much for watching Robert. CUOTO
The airplane folks have aerobatics. So is this move called aquabatics? You gotta have a cool name for it.😊
😂😂😂 Good idea. Thank you very much for watching Mike. CUOTO
I load there at that big white building on the left @6 mins into the video. That’s Citrosuco.
Thank you for watching and welcome to the channel Scott. CUOTO
Here you go Captain, now you can buy two rounds. Very interesting video. Take care and CUOTO. ED
Woohoo!!! Thank you very very very much Ed!! Cheers 🍻 CUOTO
Hey I know where you are, the Landfill gave it away and 495 in the background lol
Thank you for watching Joe. CUOTO
Tim, I live on the Great Lakes, Lake Michigan to be exact. It’s really interesting seeing the bulk freighters every so often. Have you ever worked on the Great Lakes? Are there more challenges working the east coast ports?
Thank you for watching and welcome to the channel Shannon. I have never worked on the lakes, so I couldn't say. CUOTO
Seagulls gotta eat too. They might have a nest full of babies nearby.
The waterfront would not be half as charming as it is without Seagulls.
!
Thank you for watching and welcome to the channel. CUOTO
👍✅doesn't get any better than that Tim! Well you could have done that manuover in the 🏝's, that would have been better 😂
Thank you very much for watching all these years. CUOTO
Very impressive and fancy conning. Enjoyed the camera work and seeing exactly what you were seeing. Was that a turning basin beyond the ship? Enjoyed noticing the markings alongside the ship. Plimsoul Mark etc... Couldn't make them out, but was there a significance to the flags on the bow?
Thank you for watching. We fly a few flags. American flag. Maryland flag. Company flag and Red flag for hazardous cargo. CUOTO
Nice camera work, Luke.
Thank you for watching Bob. I was just saying that to Luke myself! CUOTO
Another smooth job Tim. Yes, I watch Sal all the time . Question ..while your tank barge is pumping off or loading and you will be alongside say for 4 hours do you shut down the main engines of your tug? I'm thinking probably yes?
Thank you for watching John. Yes. We shut down the mains whenever not underway. CUOTO
Tim:
1. ?? What about the White Wheel-like things that are above the wheelhouse sealing are they some kind of valves, opener, and closer, or what device do they operate on the tugs they seem to all have them.
In the future, would you ever buy a tugboat as your permanent home to live in with your family?
Sincerely!
R.S.V.
Thank you for watching Richard. Those are the horizontal and vertical adjusters for the search lights. And as much as I love living and working on a tug, they really would make very bad and costly homes or private boats. They are purpose built to work. Over 1/2 their internal volume is fuel tankage and without fuel in the tanks, they are very unstable. They cost a lot to operate and need a crew. Just the maintenance alone would bankrupt me. (Our 5 year inspection on our tug probably cost more than a million dollars). CUOTO
Capt Tim,
Now you're just showing off!
Hi Luke
CUOTO
😂😂😂😂 Thank you very much for watching. I appreciate that. CUOTO
Look at all the Crows!
Thank you for watching Frank. CUOTO
Your Buoy system sounds a bit confusing? Wasn't that the purpose all those years ago? 😂
All the best, CUOTO
Thank you for watching and welcome to the channel Joe. It all seems simple to us until we go overseas. 😂 CUOTO
I bet the wind really plays on those container ships
Thank you for watching Frank. I'm sure it does. CUOTO
Just curious what the barge is hauling? Fuel maybe?
Thank you for watching and welcome to the channel Susan. Yes. We bring fuel to the ships or in this case, the ATB. CUOTO
Thanks again could you please explain the buoys which side you should be ?
Thank you for watching Peter. Here in North America we use buoyage B system. Red right return. CUOTO
I had a little aid I would place on the window sill in front of the helm.
One side said ‘red to the right’ with an arrow pointing right. The other side said ‘red to the left’ with an arrow pointing left. 👍
I would change it depending on what I was doing.
It wasn’t there just to help whoever was on the wheel but to remind ME what the heck I was doing. 😳😱😂
(See my helmsman saying “was that 10 degrees towards the rocks or away?”)
Thank you for watching DB. We all seem to get it long before we get in the wheelhouse. CUOTO
I can see that NASCAR drivers would Not make good Tug Captains! Haha
sweet job guys
😂😂😂 Thank you again Frank. CUOTO
channel looks wider on the screen not polishing the weels is a good thing well done Tim...Gnt
😂😂😂 Thank you very much for watching Garth. CUOTO
i hope luke can get his own boat soon.
He is more than ready but says he likes sailing with me. Thank you for watching Allen. CUOTO
What if there were much less space between the box boat and the ATB? Same turn?
Thank you for watching Randy. There is a turning basin but it would require us to back up a lot more. CUOTO
👍
Thank you for watching Gregory. CUOTO
Tim do yea miss nyc
A little. Thank you for watching Ed. CUOTO
👍🏻
Thank you for watching Butch. CUOTO
Another great science lesson. Thanks for doing them. What's the difference between a ship and an atv? You referred to it as an atv not a ship
ATB, Articulated Tug Barge. Kind of like Tim's rig but the tug uses giant pins to attach to the barge. The pins come out the sides of the tug, roughly under the wheelhouse, that engage the barge in the notch. They cause the tug to roll with the barge, but not pitch, so it articulates. It's a very odd motion to experience. The system allows the tug and barge to be much larger. The barges are the size of a small ship but since they are moved my a tug the crew requirements are less.
@@jamesmurney1374 thank you
Thank you for watching Harry and welcome to the channel. CUOTO
Dumb question & respectful of your experience counting for everything: Was turning around _behind_ the ATV an option? Probably nothing to you but that spin looked tight, and on camera it looked like you had a lot of room between the rear of the unit and bridge beyond. Maybe thats the rookie move. :-)
Thank you for watching. I think that might have worked as well, but I am unfamiliar with how much water is that far up there. So I thought it would be better to stick to where it is known to be good. CUOTO
A bit tough to follow the cursor Tim, maybe change its color to black?
Thank you for watching John. CUOTO
Tim, do you have a wheel or a tiller? Some tugs actually have 2 tillers.
Thank you for watching and welcome to the channel. No steering wheel on this boat. We have multiple tillers, NFU and FFU. (Full Follow Up and Non Follow Up). CUOTO
Tim did you ever think you would wind up driving a tug and pushing bardges around
No. It was a complete surprise. For real. Thank you very much for watching Ed. CUOTO
Do you prefer open wheel or kort nozzle?
Thank you again. They both have their place. I like towing with nozzles but like open wheels for maneuvering. CUOTO
Do you use DSC to call and talk to other vessels ?
Thank you for watching and welcome to the channel. Although it's a possibility, we generally do not use DSC other than AIS using it. CUOTO
Tim time to start a tug school. Your skills should not be lost on the younger generation.
Thank you very much for watching. I appreciate that. CUOTO
How many horsepower is the tug you're running?
Thank you for watching. That was a loner tug while our regular tug was in the shipyard getting an inspection. That one was 3000hp. Our regular tug is 4200hp. CUOTO
