Uli Jon Roth is a very independent and virtuosic guitarplayer. He´s still one of the best.
I love his kind of sound with the Scorpions or Electric Sun !

Deep record for certain. Post "Angel of Peace" when you get a minute. I had this cassette and it became defective producing an evil squeal (very creepy). I need to re-purchase the CD. Mathias Jabs just don't cut it in my book. After "Taken by Force" and "Tokyo Tapes" The Scorpions were basically done, although they enjoyed phenominal success in the 80s. Uli, Michael Schenker, Page, Howe, are in my top guitarists list for sure.
Thanks for posting Dave, you rock bro!

Nice post of a great song and band. Clive Edwards is the drummer on Earthquake, the album featuring this song, yet all of the photos show Sidhatta Gautama, the second drummer of Electric Sun. I suppose there aren’t many pics of the original trio out there, since Edwards didn’t tour with the band, to my knowledge.

It's a shame but it had to happen. Uli outgrew the Scorpions; too many genius ideas that simply didn't fit in with Klaus & Rudolf's vision of conquering America. Matthias Jabs was and still is the perfect fit for Scorpions because he plays what he's told to play. A puppet. In contrast, Uli had his own songs and believed in them enough to form Electric Sun. Too bad he didn't hire a singer like Ronnie James Dio!

Uli started writing more complex songs that he didn't feel would fit into the Scorpions more becoming mainstream style at the time. He was right, as I couldn't picture the instrumental "Earthquake" appearing on a Scorpions album, nor, could I see him playing lead on "Rock You Like A Hurricane". He made the right choice by leaving, although, he does play The Oldies with Them on occasion...

well, i am not a fan of eddie van halen...but i don't hear what you are saying at all...for starters, i don't hear them using the same tone or effects pedals...i don't hear any kind of finger patterns that resemble each other...i am not sure what you are getting at here...can you go into some more detail please?

I think these solo efforts could've gone better. His singing is a little too unhinged to be shouting "heavy metal" gibberish. If his lyrics had matched his voice he could've added a heavier neoclassical twist to the kind of unhinged and expressive rock common from david bowie and t-rex, but it seems that he instead opted for trying to be what the scorpions were before he decided to leave, and without the vocal ability to fully realize that.
