One of my favorite song and album ever. Unbelievable sound , four musicians at the top ,unforgettable rhythm section.
robert wrote and sang this from a wheelchair after a BAD car crash, he sometimes introduced it as the wheelchair piece live.
jimmy stayed up all night and did all 8 guitar tracks in 1 go including the incredibly haunting solo. and bonham was simply a fucking BEAST. jonesy going with bonham on a galloping bass line all through it
Robert wrote the lyrics, not the music. True of most Zep songs.

This album was recorded and mixed in 18 days; the 2nd shortest after their debut album. The title of this song is a bit of play off of Robert's car accident in which he suffered a broken leg, among other injuries (Achilles was only vulnerable at his heel and an injury there could kill him). The song itself recounts the trip Robert and Jimmy took to India. The group Heart readily admits they stole the galloping bass line for their song Barracuda. I don't know for a fact, but I think the machine gun style drumming also inspired Metallica's song One. It is definitely intense. In Robert's podcast, he tells the story of having a friend over to his house and having music playing in the background. At some point he excused himself to leave the room for a moment and after a couple of minutes, his guest came over to him and said she couldn't stay in the room by herself because the song playing was too intense. When he came back to the room, the intense song was Achilles.
You guys should check out the live version of For Your Life from the 2007 celebration day concert. Their only live performance of the song ever!

As wonderful as parts of this album are, this is probably LZ's first album where you you can't say to someone (assuming they've heard all the other LZ albums), "You are not ready for this!!!"
