    Excellent video! Thank you. I'm curious, can one just spray MAF cleaner over the MAF sensor just as you were holding it, or does one need to remove the torx screws and remove sensor? I have a 2004 Ford Taurus Vulcan so I think it's same setup as yours. Thanks!

    • @FixingWithPassion
      @FixingWithPassion  Pƙed 7 lety +4

      Actually It takes very little to clean it. Not the entire can. If you can get to it then you don't have to take it apart. Just spray it until its pretty clean.

      thank you for asking this question, I was wondering the same thing with my 2004 Taurus SES. I'm getting P0101 code and rather than take it to the shop I think I may attempt cleaning the MAF & pray it solves the issue.

      The thing about MAF cleaner is that it’s about $10US. You can use electrical contact cleaner I’m told. I’d clean it off of the car/truck, just get a security bit set; the magic bit is a security T-15 (on my 1991 Ford Ranger). The MAF elements are extremely fragile / pulling the MAF will allow you to spray both sides of them. Be well ventilated, the crap in the cleaner is toxic.
      Atlanta.

  • @TSPhotoAtlanta
    @TSPhotoAtlanta Pƙed 4 lety +5

    I will testify that cleaning the MAF, the IAC and the throttle body brought new life to my 1991 Ranger.
    It has about 88,000 miles on the clock.
    Also, oil & filter, air filter & cleanout the filter box, a small bottle of gumout in a half tank of premium unleaded, fuel filter and gas pump lines, gapped and gapped and installed new fine wire platinum Motorcraft sparkplugs, and gave it a mean 👀 look! Now she’s driving well and idles like a minitruck half her age...in Atlanta

    You're lucky your IAC is right there. You wouldn't believe the kind of gymnastics I have to do under the car to remove the IAC in my 2002 Focus.

    Just wanted to say thanks for posting this video... Four years later and it is still helping people. I drive a 2001 Mercury Sable... With a blown head gasket due to my daughter's father (who was a mechanic by trade). 😠 But luckily I kept on him until he finally got tired of my "nagging"... But by then it was too late. He did flush it all and did everything to help prolong it's life afterwards. But now that we are separated he refuses to help me with my car...and everything else but that's a whole different story altogether. So now I'm stuck paying or figuring it out myself. I just spent $500 having A BUNCH of stuff done (ac troubles, alternator, etc) So I'm not in a big hurry to fork out more money. I've seen this done many times.... Constantly watching family and my ex's family work on cars. So I feel fairly certain I can do it... But I KNOW I couldn't of without this video. So you just saved this single mom money, that I don't have... Four years later! Just wanted to know how much it is appreciated... Ohh and this comment is coming to you from the Sunshine State. 😉

    My 2002 ford taurus was stalling when braking, especially while turning but idling just fine if I came to a complete stop. It was getting worse and lugging when cruising under 35mph.. watched this video waiting at a hospital, bought carb cleaner on way home and 5 mins later it back up and running like normal again.. all together cost $3.99 + 5 mins work.. Thanks for the vid. Didn't know that you could clean the I.A.C. like that. I have seen some horrible throttle bodies that actually had to pre-soak and then proceed as you have, but wasn't sure if I should clean while the engine was running.
    Might just have to back this by slowly pouring in a 1/4 of SeaFoam (after your tips have been completed) in the booster vacuum line. She will sure spit and sputter for the first 1/4 can and then I dump the other 1/4 in super fast as to stall the engine. Wait at least 5 minutes and try to start. I have found better results with this technique when the engine is semi-cold, otherwise the heat from the engine will prematurely evaporate the SeaFoam and it won't be quite as effective.
    Thanks, and Cheers!

      Thanks for your videos. I have a 2000 F150 4.6. Truck has been running rough for a few weeks. Codes showed 2 misfires. Replaced sparkplugs and 1 coil pack. No more skipping! But had rough Idol and hesitation. Replaced the MAF. Still same. Found vacuum leak where pcv connected to hose. Replaced that small hose section and pcv valve. Engine cranks then dies immediately. Disconnected pcv, engine cranks and runs great. Connect the pcv and will not stay running. I have not checked the other end of the pcv hose or the IAC. What do you think?
      Thanks again!
