This is a verse in Surat an Nur and it is called Ayaat an Noor. According to Dr. Qadhi, there are at least 100 different opinions of what this verse means. There are at least ten different famous methodologies of how to understand this verse and Shaykh picks the interpretation of the great mufassir from the sahaabah, Ibn Abbas (RA). Then Shaykh discusses all of the following questions in this short khaatirah: What is the meaning of "Allaah is an Noor"? Secondly, what is the meaning of "his light"? Is an Noor one of Allah's names and attributes? Do we know what the light of Allaah is like, in it's reality? Can a regular human being see God in this world? Does God have one or two lights with himself, in his presence? To be continued...
What is Ibn Abbas interpretation of "his light"? How does this view differ from other views, in its essence? What is meant by the Misbaah lantern, the zujaajah oil and the Kawkabun glass in this verse? What does it mean "it is neither of the east or of the west"? How goes Allaah guide to this light? Ustadh would have given two or three classical interpretations but there was not enough time. Saeed ibn Jubayr also holds the interpretation, based on Ibn Abbas.
