After reading a bit, I think I understand. As a previous comment has detailed, the room 9 signifies this is the 9th level of Inferno, which is where people who have betrayed someone go. The demon is her personal demon that terrifies her, as it is literally created to trigger every fear she has ever had. I think she killed someone who trusted her, and I think she did so by suffocating the person from behind with a plastic bag behind the drivers seat of the car. I think this because the demon made the motions as if doing so in the car, playing with her fears, trying to make her feel the terror her victim felt. She is trapped for eternity inside this personal hell. The short film is an interpretation of Dante's Inferno, but with the added layer of greek hell. In normal Dante's Inferno hell, the ninth level is a giant frozen lake, and that is the same for everyone. However, in greek mythology each hell is made personally for that person. Plus the minotaur being a greek myth.

    • @Eismutter
      @Eismutter Před 2 lety +13

I like that interpretation. I was already feeling like the monster looked a bit... like her in some shots? In some scenes, especially during the first few flashes in the beginning, I really got the feeling of "this is showing us the monster but its her" in a way. Feels hard to explain in hindsight.
Her room in the beginning also had me wondering if someone was lying dead on her bed, especially when she tossed the bottle and we got a brief shot. Of course, its all speculation but I felt like there was a very deep, creative thought-process behind the visuals in this short and reading this gave me a bit more clarity on it!

@@Eismutter The demon is visible from pretty up close at 6:13 standing aboe her, but only for a small fraction of a second. I had to crank the speed down to 0.25x from 6:12, then unpause/repause in very small increments to catch a good look.
Around 6:19, you get a worse-lit but much longer look as the demon leans in to blow out her lighter. Its face is not recognizably human, nor its body resemblant of a human female. It has horns like a ram, looks covered in blood, and has a humanoid shape that appears genderless. Its face is a mess of teeth and sharp angles.

Smart moves? She leaves the room for no good reason by backing out of it, she's barefoot, left ammo on the floor of the room, didn't check the back of the car before getting in, she didn't immediately get out when she could've, she runs into the room she KNOWS has shattered glass on the floor, then fails around to the point of losing her only light source and instead of hiding in the dark, she flickers the lighter like a beacon to the monster.

    • @fj8433

@@lexiwexiwoo It was pretty smart given the circumstances and quite realistic. She leaves the room to escape the motel she's been trapped in with no water, and she would die anyway if she stayed. Who checks the back of the car for monsters? She is in shock and the glasses on the floor would be the last thing on her mind. It's all realistic to me, except for the monsters pranking their victims by hiding instead of running towards the victim.

In greek mythology inferno described as a recognition and rejection of sin. As mythology says that hell is devided in nine concentric circles where each circle is a place of punishment for different kind of sin a person committed on earth. In film the room girl enter is number nine which is described as ninth concentric circle. In ninth concentric circle punishment for treachery is given which concludes that may be girl has betrayed a person who trusts her. As a result she is punished for her sin. This was my interpretation so far.

This was a great example of taking ideas and making them work. Bishal Dutta as writer and director had a handle on these ideas and a great film is the result.
The lead character wakes up and something horrific has happened. So the character and viewer starts off quickly in chaos and fear. A woman wakes up in a very serious and potentially dangerous situation. At this point as a viewer I was not not sure if she was in an amnesia/ memory loss situation. Watching the whole thing has now led me to believe that she was aware all along. But for a moment the memory loss thing was a possibility.
At this point, the girl is more aware of her situation and environment and makes solid decisions. She has a gun, is looking all around, and she has enough wherewithal to not step barefoot on broken glass.
The car scene is where the story amps up. We have a very well filmed confrontation and our character is faced with fight, fight, or freeze. These are reaction responses that we can't always plan on.
Now her awareness has gone down as fear and survival are now on overdrive. Decisions now lead us to the end.
Tbe lighting worked for the story. There was also some nice camera work particularly on the sidewalk outside the rooms.
Feet and glass. Ouch Ouch and Ouch.
The lead actress Taylor Cloyes was fantastic. It is hard to pull off an essentially solo performance. She did. It is even harder to play a no dialougue role. Her use of body language was excellent and really carried the film. High Five Taylor.
I greatly enjoyed this film and Congratulations to all involved.
    Peace
