It sounded so weird to me when Ann said "... just in case Christmas day is a hot day..." my brain glitched for a moment and I remembered how seasons work on the other side of the planet. Amazing video!
no wonder australia is called "the land down under"
@@zozoweemama Huh? Australia isn't the Upside Down.
The Upside Down is from Netflix's series 'Stranger Things' - It's Earth's fictional, shadowy mirrored alternate reality/universe... The Upside Down is a place so wild, dark and dangerous, a place that is packed full of nasty beasts, creatures and critters that are constantly trying to kill you! It's a place where you've got to be CONSTANTLY on your guard just so you don't stumble into (then get killed by) one of its many deadly inhabitants!
............
Sooooo, when you put it like that I guess it's actually very similar to Australia!
TBH - It would be much better getting stuck in the Upside Down because you've got a better chance of surviving there! 🤣😅
Masks stopped being mandatory in Australia too because their cases are so low. I might have to go and stay in Australia if school is gonna be online for the rest of the year
Yeah, we often have snow for Christmas in Bulgaria, or at the very least, it's really cold (like it's cold right now).

Merry Christmas
Perfectly said too!
lol!
I thought that was funny, he still knew the story better than anyone else
Christmas, per the Catholic church, and GOD, has NOTHING WHATSOEVER to do with Christ's birth. He was born in very late September/very early October, and it's in the Bible (but you have to read it with understanding and research, not just accept it blindly from any Protestant "minister"). It's not even possible for Him to have been born so late in the year---and the C.C. even stated, in the late 1500's, that they made it that particular "holiday" in order to be able to get away with celebrating the pagan saturnalia.
😂😂 Ah yes, I remember reading about that in the Bible when an angel told Joseph, "Relax, buddy, it's God's baby."
o-o

Same...
When she says ‘here’s an easy house YOU can make’ my first thought is ‘oh no I can’t!’ When I saw the whole “rolled towel to get a curved roof” set-up that she made, I knew this was in no way ‘easy’. 😃
Is this a dance moms reference
When my sister was young she believed Australians celebrated Christmas on June 25th during the winter (:
A lot of people try if that helps?
A great thing about the southern hemisphere is you can do christmas twice! (Normal christmas in december, and 'mid-winter christmas parties' in june or july)
We do Christmas in July too
My birthday :)
Well we do tend to have Xmas themed parties in June. In NZ we call them midwinter Xmas parties and we do the whole mulled wine thing. So fun
I love how the lady in the red shirt is wearing a giant cross but thinks Christmas is the holiday when Jesus died lmao (8:59)
That was super weird.
I thought that was weird too. I guess wearing crosses is a fashion thing in some areas.
Painfully sad 😢
Yeah that was surreal

"Just in case christmas day is a hot day"
Man, those christmases where its 40c so we have to shove all the chairs around the kitchen table, instead of outside because it's so darn hot are a headache no matter what you're eating. I can't imagine how your gingerbread houses stay up in that heat!
We always make pavlova to beat the heat on christmas day! :) Would love to see your xmas pavlova recipe, Ann!
Here in South Africa we have a similar problem. I do cold meats and salad and I like a fresh fruit salad with ice-cream for after.
i vote for changing christmas' date for july for the south hemisphere! 😅😅 those rituals are to those who must be indoors due the cold, and we don't want to be indoors in summer
@@valeriataylor8337 for those of us in the America south, we actually will have warm christmases! Last year it was 30C.
You know, even in the cold and coolish weather I’ve usually experienced at Xmas in the US, a spread of salad, cold cuts, and fresh fruit sounds like MUCH less stress to put together than a typical US meal of turkey, stuffing, casseroles, etc.
Next year, I’m going to make our Xmas meal Australian!
@@valeriataylor8337
Yes, European Christmas traditions are midwinter celebration traditions, which for you are far more appropriate in June. I assume the uniquely Southern Hemisphere Christmas traditions are more similar to our midsummer traditions, since that’s what they are for you.
"Easy gingerbread house." That is about a light year above my skills. I would end up with a puddle of half-cooked dough and lumpy royal icing.
And most of the candy eaten.
Look for a simpler template if you dont feel confident, but I have faith in your ability to make the dough and icing haha. Royal Icing really isn't hard.
Omg
Every time my sister and I try to make a nice gingerbread house, it somehow goes horrifically wrong. Last year when we finished our attempt, my sister literally took one look at it and said, "I think we just made a cookie crackhouse."
And then we found some graham crackers and decided to make all the windows boarded up to set off the look and added a drunk gingerbread man passed out on the lawn...
I'm an Uber driver, and a few years ago, right before Christmas, I drove a lovely young Australian man from the Gold Coast who was in the US for work. He said he was flying his entire family in for Christmas! Normally we don't get white Christmases here in Indiana (it snows plenty, but not until January) but that year the snow started falling at like 6 pm on the 24th! I was so glad that he was able to share that with his family because it was honestly magical!
As a fellow Hoosier, I can attest that this is a true Christmas miracle
She is already past grandma level cooking, so what is going to happen when she actually becomes a grandma
God level
Australia: *hot summer day on Christmas*

We do the same in brazil, is so funny
@@carolbuzelim much better than real snow ;)

My kids: "THROW CANDY ON IT!!! CANDY CANDY CANDY!"
Yeah. My kids' theme can be described as "a candy factory, Hoarding:Buried Alive, and The Trolls Movies (1 AND 2) walked into a bar..."
the theme is chaos
lol
ei
Literally what the boys' team did during a gingerbread house decorating contest-- they stuck a few candies on the sides, then just tossed all the rest on top. The girls took a little longer, but there wasn't a theme except "all the candy that will stick."

That made me grin. Word-for-word memorization is valuable, but so are real understanding and internalization, and the ability to tell a story in a relatable way. (It's why they made all the stained glass windows and paintings that show Mary, Jesus, etc. as white people wearing medieval clothes-- understandable to the immediate audience, even if less exactly what happened.)

"...even if it's a really hot day on christmas" sounds so weird to someone living in europe :D
Well, there is Southern Europe...
@@e.lycopersicon9720 But southern europe still is in the northern hemisphere meaning you wouldn't expect christmas to be on a particularly hot day compared to the rest of the year. It's winter in southern europe as well as in northern europe. In australia it's the middle of summer
It is simply because Christianity rose up in Europe in the Medieval age. The thing is, obviously no one knows that Jesus was born on the night to the 25.12, but the people needed something to celebrate in winter (since they were quite harsh back then). That's why christmas is in December when it's cold in Europe. Since the Europeans came to Australia fairly late, they brought their traditions/festivities with them, and celebrated Christmas in December anyway, when it was warm in Australia. Also, I am quite in a shock about just how little the people in the video seem to know about Christmas, even though I am not the most faithful person on earth, but considering they may celebrate Christmas, it shows that it is quite a celebration of commerce nowadays.
I LOVE the street talk segment and was very impressed by some of their knowledge! I live in California (where I've also never had a white Christmas) and couldn't recall the First Christmas story.
I loved this. I haven’t been seeing much holiday spirit so far this year. This really put me in good spirits. Thank you! 🎄
