    Great movie! Loved all of Daisy's high fashion mod looks in this film. 👗
    But the real magic was the *Regency Period* costumes for Melinda Tentrees!

    Absolutely one of her finest performances- her singing is breathtaking. No matter how many times that I hear it it still gives me chills! (in a good way- not in a virus kinda way). :)

    She did some of her best vocal work in this film. How many chills are initiated when hearing this performance? Just want to thank the late great Nelson Riddle for his brilliant arrangements that underpinned her singing for this role. So lush but sophisticated and subtle at the same time.

      You and I are on the same page. See my post above. WOW. You hit the nail on the head. I cannot get over the extraordinary vocals on this film in every song. Listen to “He isn’t you” on headphones and you will understand what I mean. Just sheer beauty of tone, phrasing, and prowess. Best to you,.

      Best to you as well! "He isn't you" is one of the most beautiful songs she's ever sung and i never tire of it. Very delicate with another perfect Riddle touch. i know they flipped it from the Broadway show (she isn't you). i still marvel at the "on a clear day" arrangement in the film, like nothing I've ever heard. Two musical geniuses at the pinnacle of their talents, and lucky us!

      I love the original cast recording but when you hear how brilliantly Nelson Riddle arranges the songs- and how perfectly Streisand sings them- you realize it's the way the songs always should have been. Hurry It's Lovely Up Here, What Did I Have?, He Isn't You, On A Clear Day,... How can anyone else touch them?

      bill, I could not agree with you more in every way. From her absolutely brilliant vocals to the astonishing orchestration by Nelson Riddle, nothing in the world tops this moment and this scene in musical history. I wonder if they knew from watching the playback during the filming of this movie how brilliant this scene truly was.

    RESTATE: One of the greatest moments in musical performances in cinema. Streisand's singing in this film was the Peak of her career. Her voice hit an apex and transcended anything she has done before or after. There is no other singing like this and there never will be. If there is anything out there that can top this performance or this moment, I would like to know what it is. This last scene takes me to another world every time I listen to it. Thrilling. ENJOY!!!!

      Thank you, Davey boy. I have probably watched this last scene OVER 500 times. I never tire of it. Just too amazing. THIS is the scene they should show when ending any kind of Barbra tribute. To show the World the way she could sing then, at the peak of her career. Best to you, David.

      +David Kaminski Very true. And while I don't think Streisand comes near Garland at her best, this is truly a stunning time period in her life. 1968-1973 IS indeed, the apex of this extraordinary singer's life.

  • @djkmusic60
    @djkmusic60 Před 6 lety +9

    Listen starting at 1:47 when the brass makes its entrance and then continues to the end of the song. That is Orchestrator Nelson Riddle’s way of evoking and bringing us back to the British regency era (circa 1814), i.e., Daisy’s previous life as Melinda. Maybe too subtle for most, but brilliant all the same. Stunning. See also my previous comment below. Best to all.

      Paul, also, now you are really going to think I am obsessed........if you look at the outfit that Streisand is wearing at the end of the film while singing the title song, the hat and the dress are a more modern version of the hat and the dress Streisand wears when she leaves the orphanage. Exactly the same. The latter merely the contemporary version. The purpose of that was to evoke the dual personas of Daisy and melinda and to keep that thing going throughout the film. Truly brilliant but at the same time, very subtle trick by the filmmakers.

      Have to agree. Streisand caved into the pressure of FM Radio, and after, say, "The Way We Were", her singing became higher, pretentious, and a bit canned (as if something like "You Don't Bring Me Flowers" can compare to her under-utilized, rich mid-level vibrato here). I'd say Streisand's best vocal days are 1968 to 1975.

    At the peak of her career, this woman could have handled grand opera with ease. Only one other megatalent -- Judy Garland -- has ever caused a screen to explode with stars and jewels when she sang the way Barbra has. Thank God that both her films and recordings will be around forever. (Too bad that her example doesn't cause some of these latter-day no-talents to slink away in shame...)

    Yes, this little gem is a near masterpiece of modern theatrical singing. The crescendo, the meaning conveyed in the lyrics, the vocal control, the sense of excitement she conveys as she opens it up. It's just way too short. It almost seems truncated. Was it a reprise of a longer version done earlier in the show? The outfit is distracting, but I know we should make allowances for changes in fashion over time. I don't think that's any college students dressed in the 1960's, though. Nonetheless, it's really special.

      Well I wouldn't look towards You Tube anymore. The studios for these old movies and You Tube have taken possession of these sound tracks and movies so greedily, they have marked their "territory" by spraying urine on it like a pet or other animals. There is no more enjoyable history and movies to discover due to the mind set and greed of today's world (the summer of 2016 at this time). In the future, every thing owned by any body including music will be sprayed with a pungent urine.

    Actually, you can't see forever even on a clear day. Assuming that you are observing a flat surface (like the ocean) you can only see about three miles due to the curvature of the earth. This observation limit is called the horizon. You could see farther than that if you (the observer) has some elevation or if the object to be seen is further away than three miles and is sufficiently elevated. If an elevated object is blocking the horizon, you may not be able to see even three miles away. If you don't limit your viewing to the Earth then the farthest you can see during the day is a glance at the Sun, about 94 million miles away. If you want to see long distances then look on a clear night, not a clear day. The farthest star that can seen with our naked eye is V762 Cas in Cassiopeia at 16,308 light-years away. The farthest galaxy that can bee seen with the naked eye is Andromeda at 2.5 million light years.
