- I got my hay tasted for nutrients and the results were good! We still put the cows on a mineral program to cover all our bases in case any are lacking.

How Farms Work by Ryan Kuster is a CZcams channel based in rural Potosi, Wisconsin. Our mission is to teach those who didn't grow up on a farm what the farming life is like. These videos show the Kuster family working together raising cattle and crops. We believe everyone who wants to know more about farming should be able to share the farming experience with us and we look to educate the world on many essential agriculture topics.
How Farms Work takes place on ~1,100 acres with around 75-200 cattle at any given time. Four John Deere tractors are currently used on the farm, which are a 4020, 4640, 7600, and 8235R.

There is alot more to having cattle and feeding them hay and water. I like that you are having your hay tested for RFV ( relative feed value). It proves that you really care about your cattle
Hi Ryan, Wow times are really changing, when I was milking cows I dealt with a nutritional expert at the feed mill.As long as I bought the supplements there the testing was free. I would recommend you get a core sampler, most places have those for the customers to use. I would do this before you wrapped the hay. Good luck, enjoy your videos.
Hey Ryan!! It's amazing how far farming, raising crops and animals, has came in my lifetime.
Great stuff Ryan and The Puppies, fair play💯👌👍🙏🙂
Just Heard Wisconsin got hit with a couple of winter Tornados. Hope you and your Family are all ok!
It is so cool to see how far farms have come to ensure that they are feeding their animals a proper diet. Unbelievable. On a sidenote, I am a big fan of the game farming simulator. I actually use a lot of the John Deere equipment that is in the game. Rumor has it there is a Wisconsin farm that belongs to a big CZcams farmer being designed for the game any chance you can confirm or not? If it might be yours if it is, I would be very psyched. Thanks for the contact you put out. I enjoy watching.
The more often you speak directly to us (into the camera) the better are your videos. Wel done Ryan and improving with each video. Many thanks.
Keeping the cows happy is important😉👍 looking forward to a cattle update in the future👍👍
Hey Ryan thanks for the video.
awsome video ryan thumbs up and shared
Not all loose mineral are created equal. Explore all brands you will be surprised at the variation and the improved results on one brand versus another.
Interesting ! I've always known cow nutrition is vital to breed back, Makes sense about calf vigor !
Informative. Have fun at the show.
Thanks for the update Ryan, take care and stay safe 👍
I have Dexter cattle and I find certain brands of minerals seem to help my cow's health more than others. Good luck with your endeavor in finding the proper diet for your cattle.
A very interesting video Ryan hope it works out for u can't wait to see the next video
for a city guy this is fascinating content! please keep the videos coming.
Thanks for sharing your thoughts, ideas and videos. Interesting update. Wishing you and your family the best.
interesting to see your thinking behind the minerals as a supplement
Great Video Ryan, Alfalfa Hay is right up there in terms of feed value, with the minerals and salt you are just trying to eliminate a deficit, I love the way you watch what the cows are eating and use that as a benchmark! Any stock will over consume salt and salt based products and the same is true of any product that has meat meal in it! the correct way it to simply correct the deficit! thanks for sharing
Great video. Hope your enjoying your vacation
Have you ever thought about doing liquid feed? It's a mineral heavy slurry that goes into a special feeder that they have access to.
That was a good Video Ryan thanks for sharing. It’s always nice to see how you want to improve your cattle and operation. Hope everything pans out and I hope it’s also helping in the breeding process
If your on a good year around mineral program you don’t have to worry about the cows over consuming. I sold Moormans feed and ADM bought them and kept the Moorman mnl. A good year round progr is cheaper than playing catchup and consumption does not get out of control
I notice when I have the cows penned up close to my house during winter feeding theough calving that my mineral intake is high but summer it falls back. You should also notice a increase in wean weights by adding a mineral program. I used to wean 575 to 605 now I'm weaning off at 625-655.
thank you
Love the video sure is one of the more interesting ones especially with getting the hay tested
Interesing video:) Are you gonna make a video of the 4020 and the feedmill?(I really like that combo :) )
Another good video Ryan, 👍
They could definitely smell the salt! Cows look good.
Hi Ryan,Ed from Vermont
Good luck with the mineral consumption. We have always had trouble with them just sucking down the mineral if we don't just mix it in as a complete mix in our feed wagon. The feed salesman always said just wait and they will back off. We went over a year and they never did. And I think you need to check out some hay sales I think you are too cheap on the value of your hay bales.
Like, Comment, and Subscribe! 👍
If your going to keep growing your herd. You really should look into nutritionist come and check your feeds RFV every month or so. You might even do a video visiting another CZcamsr that does bigger cattle operations.
Hey Ryan, Learning about hey and minerals, Thank you for the video. Take care, Take it Easy and trust JESUS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Is it true there is an fs22 modded making a how farms work map oml I need it now I’ve been waiting for one on console for years
👍👍
That is not how you regulate intake on a self feeder.
You can't feed right unless you know what you are feeding.
