Sir, I have around 4 ACs at home. But at one time, only 2 ACs are used. (Rarely 3 are used simultaneously if any guest visits, maybe once or twice a year). Now, will a 7kw three-phase meter be enough? If I am charging my car using a 7kw charger and plus 2 ACs are being used simultaneously, will there be any load issue? As you know any electricity meter with more than 7kw load will be charged high per unit consumption.

Charging using dc fast charger costs 3 times atleast from home charger. And dc fast chargers are not available everywhere. I am from Orissa and nearest dc fast chargers of TATA is 200 km away. Govt both central as well as state are not keen to install. Even there is no directive to petroleum ministry to install fast chargers in petrol pumps. This is having dampening effect on sale of EV. In my place people are very keen to buy but due to the reasons mentioned many have cancelled bookings and gone for petrol car.

Any 15 amp plug with a circuit breaker and a multimode power meter will do it. Cable 2.5 sq mm to be used. Only problem is earthing. Without proper earthing charger will not work. You have to carry a copper rod 15 inch long and 1.5 mm flexible copper wire with crocodile clip at both end to connect earth rod and the extn board. Then only u can charge. Provided the place where u charge is capable of supplying the required load , 7.2 kw charger draws 27 amp current, 3.3 kw charger draws 13 amp current.

Why Tatapower is not making provision for Mobile charging vans. When RSA can charge vehicles why not to high-rise residents and small homes who can not or need not enhance their service connection to higher capacity. This will definitely increase sale of EV. Now due to lack of charging facilities in the city, lower capacity service Connected load in average house hold people are reluctant to go for ev. Two wheeler it is ok as they consume only 4 units. If Tatamotors can provide even 1.5 kw chargers then small homes can buy EV. But I feel Tatamotors has manufactured these EVs for effulant rich people who can buy an EV as city car and use big diesel car for outstation journey. Not meant for lower or middle class. Tweeted to CEO of Tatamotors, but all suggestions on deaf ears. Not even having caurtsey to acknowledge. Very funny.

    • @bkmishrarourkela

There is a mis conceptions about ev charger. The charger is inbuilt in the car. We r only connecting a communication device using the device provided. Car draws current depending upon the battery capacity. In fast DC charger car draws current at 17 kw initially till 80% and then at 13kw till 90% and at 3.3 kw till 100%. Depending upon the wastage the current varies and the station must be capable of supplying that much current. But home can max supply 3.3 kw (draws 15 amp current) in normal situation for average house hold. It can support 7.2 kw (draws 32 amp current) with 8 kw sanctioned load of household. Only way to increase charging facility by providing a interface device which can connect to 5amp socket and can be set to 5 amp current so that any where in the country which is electrified can be used to charge ev car. But GOI has made 3.3 kw and 15 amp current as standard for charging EV.

It is foolishness on part of Tatamotors to provide 3.3 kw home charger with car. For Installing 7.2 kw charger you need either 9 kw max demand and change service connection, upgrade power or take 3 phase connection. Similarly for installation of 3.3 kw charger you need to upgrade service connection as well as power demand upgrading. How many indian average home have more than 6 kw max demand? It seems this car is made for rich and effulant people who can use it as city drive car. Average Indian home got 4 kw load service connection. If you charge car then there is no power left to run air conditioning in home at night. Tatamotors must consider 1.5 kw charger as option like 7.2 kw charger. Although time for 0 to 100% which takes 10 hrs with 3.3 kw charger, it will take 16 to 17 hrs by 1.5 kw charger. But it does not matter as battery can be charged from 50 to 60% and it takes less time. A battery can be charged 3000 times minm. Tatamotors must consider this.
